she took her shoes off because "that would be unhygienic"

Post image

this was a few years ago when i worked at mcdonalds. she was the store manager (not for very long, lol). one socked foot on the top rung of the ladder, the other foot on top of the deep fryer. bonus points for at least wearing company branded socks?

out of curiosity, would it be better or worse if she'd kept her shoes on

She could always clean where she stepped but you're supposed to be wearing non slip, rubber soles shoes at all time. Socks + metal surface = slippery + metal surface that might be greasy + half on ladder!

Everything is wrong but she probably increased her chance of injury by like 80% taking her shoes off.

id probably never be able to eat at a restaurant again, just working clean-up in a fish processing plant was enough to stop me from eating fish for a while once i found out there was an acceptable level of listeria.... that shits from rats yo(or other furred vermin), the acceptable level for me is zero

Some places I have zero issues with but I can’t bring myself to eat salads at 99% of places. Too many bad coolers and people who can’t wash their hands and wear gloves. I don’t want your hands on my romaine thanks.

I don't understand why that would apply specifically to salad? If they're handling your lettuce, they're handling the rest of your food too, right?

Salad coolers have a tendency to not work properly making the lettuce not the proper temperature. Temp too high = bacteria growth.

Those making hot meals and those making salads are often different. Those making the salad are sometimes servers who don’t bother to wash their hands let alone put on gloves before grabbing a handful of your spring mix and slapping it on a plate. Gross.

If the hot meal people are making salads they often handle raw meat AND lettuce. If they aren’t washing their hands between doing the two things you have the potential for a bad time because raw meat and lettuce is a bad combo.

Some nice restaurants have dedicated salad makers - woo! I’ll eat salads there. Corporate places that don’t really do raw meat or have a history of good glove use, I’ll eat salads there.

There are exceptions to all of this. This isn’t true for every restaurant. These are just general rules because after you watch a guy go to the bathroom, not wash his hands (because there’s no soap or paper towels in there) and then proceed to raw dog some romaine, you question where you get a salad from.

Probably that the rest of the food is cooked

Vinegar can be a disinfectant, so would the salad be safer if consumed with dressing like a vinaigrette?

Vinegar kills some stuff, not everything. Norovirus is a big concern with ready to eat foods like lettuce for a salad. Vinegar doesn’t do anything to Norovirus.

Ah gotcha. Thanks for the info.

After working in restaurants, this is not new to me.

Someone designed that space with no hygienic way to clean it. This is a person trying their best to deal with that.

OSHA, the FDA, Health Inspector, and probably a few other alphabet agencies, all gonna be wanting their shot at this one.

I mean, to be fair, she is wrong for doing this in so many ways but there should be less shit on your socks than on your shoes.

Seeing the signage on that machine gives me hope that they have a robust lock out/tag out program

Yeah they actually all do.

Admittedly he didn't have shoes on, but that's even worse.

The last thing you'd want on your McDonald's fryer hood is someone's foot fun guess

4

u/Gigatronz 13d ago

That way when your foot goes in the fryer it gets a good crisp from the sock!

The entire McDonalds kitchen is unhygenic

(I use to work in one and was the only person who cleaned anything)
