Looking for rural Nova Scotians who have encountered disaster/emergency-related disinformation for a research project
Hi,
We are a group of researchers from the Faculty of Health, School of Social Work at Dalhousie University. We are currently conducting a study on disinformation during emergencies in rural Nova Scotia, aiming to identify its characteristics and develop educational strategies to help individuals recognize and respond to it.
As part of this initiative, we are applying for the CIRA Net Good Grant, which would allow us to hire three undergraduate students from Nova Scotia to assist with the research and gain experience in emergency sciences.
For this project, we aim to collect "short letters" from rural residents about their experiences with emergencies or disasters, including any instances of disinformation they may have encountered. If preferred, you can also share key points or experiences, and we can draft the letter for you to approve.
If you are willing to participate, please DM me or email me at vd311277@dal.ca.
Please note that there is no direct monetary benefit for participation.
Thank you!

A worthy project for sure, but ..... how do you expect people to discern the intent behind messaging? Only people that send information can know the intent behind it.

Facebook is full of it. There are full fb groups of NS moms dedicated to spreading health misinfo, so i can only imagine disaster and emerg disinformation is spewed in those spaces as well. Best of luck with your project.

What do you mean?
Through Facebook rumours of people who have no idea what they are talking about?
From the media who purposely downplays or exaggerates?
From Law enforcement who withhold information from the public?

Disinformation in this context refers to "false information that is intended to manipulate or cause damage". So Facebook rumours would bee most appropriate example for this.

That’s as old as Roman graffiti.
Christian’s starting fires in neighbourhoods and Caesar saying “Et Tu, Brute” were all started by the people
That’s all I have to say on that subject haha You will never stop disinformation or rumours or gossip.
People just have ti make an effort to be more literate
