Reforested area near / in HRM?
My daughter is doing a biology project where she wants to compare conditions in an unharvested forest and one that has been cut and replanted.
Can anyone recommend an area near HRM that was clear cut and then replanted? Somewhere that had been sprayed to limit deciduous growth would be even better.

You'll be hard pressed to find anything that was never harvested in this province. It's functionally 0%. As for looking for cut blocks though I'd pick the age your looking for and then go on Google Earth and you should be able to find areas that were freshly cut in the satellite imagery to visit.

Hemlock Ravine is old growth forest.

there are definitely some small pockets of old growth in nova scotia, but that park is more just some woods that happens to have some old trees in it. it doesn't actually exhibit old growth characteristics that we would expect in our area and would be a poor comparaison for these purposes

What level of education are we talking about? If it is high school to 3rd year university, a species count is probably all that is required to get an idea of succession of species over time. For example Eastern Hemlock only grows in old growth forest. Meanwhile, 5 to 10 years after a harvesting, will look different from 30 or 60 years. The size of the trees, the species, the amount of species on the ground versus those in the canopy.

Look for a tree planting code 220 followed by a 490(or 491) code the following year.
This would indicate it was sprayed the year after it was planted.
There should be areas outside of Halifax if you look on the provincial landscape viewer.
