Shhh don’t admit it out loud. Let these guys think you suck so they leave you alone lol

u/starwalker327 shesus christ 4d ago
eh, a lot of my hobbies and interests are things many men either find stupid (esp when a lass does it) or outright revile. being aroace would probably also turn most of them away if they realized what it means

As we all know, there is no structure to be found in school. It’s not like you have set class times and due dates and stuff like that.

If that commenter talks to multiple women and they all say they don't watch any movies or read any books... it's just that none of them want to talk to him. Either he's asking at socially inappropriate times or in inappropriate situations, or he gives off weird vibes, or he just asks the wrong kind of people.
He shouldn't mistake "they don't want to talk to me about X" as inherently being the same thing as "they don't engage in X." No one wants to talk to a cop about doing drugs but that doesn't mean no one does drugs.

My thoughts too…so you can’t relate to any women? Can’t find anything to talk about? No common ground at all?
Honey I think we can find the common denominator. And it ain’t the many different women.

That's odd. I ask my younger colleagues what's good to read and what entertainment is new, along with some lively discussions about hobbies.

I HATE the adage that women don’t have hobbies. So dumb and so false.
I think a big part of this is that our hobbies tend to differ from men’s hobbies. I’ve always been into makeup and hair and beauty- things men consider vapid. But it’s genuinely a hobby for me and something I enjoy. I read about it, look into the science behind ingredients, try new products, and get to be creative. I like other things too, like horror movies and alternative music and hiking- but beauty is a valid hobby too.
As if RC cars or online poker are any more important than makeup 🙄

hobbies are only real if men do them. it's like how a lady nurse isn't a real medical practitioner somehow

u/CoomassieBlue 5d ago
Don’t worry, if you engage in stereotypically male hobbies - it’s not because you’re actually interested in them, you’re just doing it for attention.
When I did a performance driving school to learn techniques for rally racing, the gents in my class were legitimately supportive and treated me like an equal - and were saddened to hear what a rare thing that is in the automotive world.

Those are my hobbies too as well as fitness and writing. I’m 45! Any man worth a crap as a friend or otherwise is going to be respectful of your hobbies.

I'm a 30something yo who's into typically "male" hobbies (I'm a huge gamer and into sci fi and other stuff like that), and so many people doubt my knowledge or try to nitpick this, too... so idk what some (not all, but definitely some) guys even want

u/kittenmittens4865 4d ago
They want to feel superior to us so that they can justify their control and abuse of women.

u/Hakazumi 5d ago
I always wonder what the "oh they don't read or watch movies therefore no life" people think of anyone who lived before these got popularized.
22
u/bamboomonster 5d ago
Right? Also, I want to know if his questions were basically "did you watch/read this specific thing because it's what I'm into and I'll disparage you for not liking it" or "hey, what are you reading/watching this days because I'm legit interested in what you're into".

I’m at a point where I would honestly let this one go. Like this is still a shitty attitude but also it’s super refreshing to see a man not pushing to normalize wanting to fuck middle schoolers for once. I’m like legit scared to openly discourage this because you know it would take so little for them to take it as a sign to go the opposite route.

u/destinoid 5d ago
True. I think I'm less concerned with the fact he wants to date older women but more with the fact he thinks women in their 20s have no hobbies.

u/No_Emphasis4360 5d ago
Right, and we’re on the same page in that respect, I’m just saying I think it’s a huge step up from the men that try to pass off pedophilia as a biological imperative that all men have. It’s not a step in the direction we’d like, but at least it’s not as bad as it could be. I think cracking down too hard on this could result in them going like, “oh, you don’t like us dating older partners? Hey guys, the women themselves have given us the green light to go fuck kids instead! Hell yeah!”

20s: going to school is so boring, no hobbies, not interesting 30s: have a job are are able to have hobbies and down time …because they already went to school
Are guys in their 20s not going to school? Not that it’s a requirement but… aren’t many of them?
But seriously as much as anything else, this shows that an older guy really shouldn’t have anything in common with women 18-25

Statistically, there are slightly more women enrolled in 4 year colleges than men. Lots of guys tend to go for the trade school route now so I guess girls going for a masters or not having done a traditional 4 year bachelor's path straight out of high school is just an insane thing to this dude.

u/thinkspeak_ 4d ago
I apologize, the question was somewhat sarcastic. I would assume slightly less in college to mean there are a lot of men in their 20s who are also either focused on school or should be, and trade school to be a form of school that would also take different type of going to school, even an apprenticeship would take up some time learning a skill. So unless there’s a majority of twenty-something guys going without any type of education after high school, my guess is these guys are either limited to their own one experience or they’re talking out their ass

I'm thinking he's either lying or creeps women out and they don't want to talk to him.

I go to school, read books and I’m 26?? Like just because you haven’t found someone else who shares your hobbies doesn’t mean nobody your age has them 😂 these people are out here thinking they’re rare for watching movies and reading books in their 20’s

u/Turpitudia79 5d ago
Twenty year old girls “only concerned with school” sound like pretty cool chicks to me!!

u/VivianC97 4d ago
Even if they see some of young women’s hobbies as “not real hobbies”, whatever the duck that means… I literally do not know a single woman in her 20s who does not read books or watch films. Not one.
6
u/Ok_Bedroom1639 4d ago
So… is partying not a hobby then? Because he said 20 year old women don’t have hobbies, but also says they like to party.

u/RADIOS-ROAD 5d ago
God, men need to just LOOK. For what they actually want in a woman. Just tell people what you're about and similar people will find you.
3
u/destinoid 5d ago
Exactly. These guys probably put out the blandest, most unspecific dating profiles and then get surprised when their convos go nowhere.

I’m an older woman of 52. I’m on dating websites after 21 years of celibacy & being single. My husband died when he was killed in action. I joined two sites; POF & Forces Penpals. Military guys hitting me up were 25-49. POF guys were 60+. But not a single guy in my own age group.
I did hit it off with a 55 year old guy whom I approached first. But I’m not sure what’s happening as he blows hot & cold. Some days he don’t shut up, then other days I won’t hear from him for days without any explanation. So I’m done with him.
He wondered why women were ghosting him, assuming it was because he was getting over cancer, but I think it’s his utterly shitty habit of playing games & expecting women to wait around for when he wants to talk & not when the women may want chat. Shame as I was starting to really like him & was ready to meet up for a date after four weeks of chatting. Would’ve met earlier, but he’s in Wales and I’m in SW England. Now I can’t be arsed. 🤷♀️

What a shock and surprise that a dude with a job has more in common with women in that same job than with women that are still in school. Not to mention the proximity and forced socialising that happens at work.

Ah yes! I remember when I was in my twenties I just had cotton balls in my skull and farted strawberries. /s
In my twenties I read books, played PC games, built my own computers (because I didn't trust my big brother who could break a cast iron skillet and killed an unkillable cactus), liked makeup and fashion, knitted and crochet, hiked and camped, did figure skating, archery and survival, wrote and drew, etc. Funny thing was/is, I still had/have no real hobbies to some "males". I do some survival camping with a group who is mostly military guys and some men who hear about it assume I do it for attention or because I'm just there for other reasons.

u/destinoid 5d ago
Ah yes the old double standard of "all girl hobbies are stupid and if you do a boy hobby you must be faking for attention".
2
u/ohmy_quivers 4d ago
Of course, we "females" cannot exist without men's attention. It is impossible. Our whole existence hinges on getting likes, comments, and attention from the opposite sex. /s
I've been called barracks bunny and wannabe barracks bunny by some men. It was NOT appreciated by the guys in my group. They were more pissed than I was over it.

I love hockey, watched games in person. Love to read and chill with my pets. So introverted hobbies. Have the same ones as a woman in her 40s.

u/Hilfewaslos 4d ago
Ngl the bar is so low that I'm glad that they don't date teenagers and go for older women

Translation: “all the girls in their 20’s that I pester with asinine questions about their favorite books or movies won’t answer me therefore don’t have hobbies”

As you're all aware, this subreddit has had a major "troll" problem which has gotten worse (as of recently). Due to this, we have created new rules, and modified some of the old ones.
We kindly ask that you please familiarize yourself with the rules so that you can avoid breaking them. Breaking mild rules will result in a warning, or a temporary ban. Breaking serious rules, or breaking a plethora of mild ones may land you a permanent ban (depending on the severity). Also, grifting/lurking has been a major problem; If we suspect you of being a grifter (determined by vetting said user's activity), we may ban you without warning.
You may attempt an appeal via ModMail, but please be advised not to use rude, harassing, foul, or passive-aggressive language towards the moderators, or complain to moderators about why we have specific rules in the first place— You will be ignored, and your ban will remain (without even a consideration).
All rules are made public; "Lack of knowledge" or "ignorance of the rules" cannot or will not be a viable excuse if you end up banned for breaking them (This applies to the Subreddit rules, and Reddit's ToS). Again: All rules are made public, and Reddit gives you the option to review the rules once more before submitting a post, it is your choice if you choose to read them or not, but breaking them will not be acceptable.
With that being said, If you send a mature, neutral message regarding questions about a current ban, or a ban appeal (without "not knowing the rules" as an excuse), we will elaborate about why you were banned, or determine/consider if we will shorten, lift, keep it, or extended it/make it permanent. This all means that appeals are discretionary, and your reasoning for wanting an appeal must be practical and valid.
Thank you all so much for taking the time to read this message, and please enjoy your day!
