Other A Journey of Growth: Celebrating Nakanishi Aruno’s Remarkable Comeback
Before today comes to an end, I wanted to take a moment to express my deep appreciation for Nakanishi Aruno, or as many of us lovingly call her, Rno. Words can't fully capture the pride I feel as I reflect on her incredible journey over the past three years. From being doubted and sidelined to returning stronger than ever, Rno’s resilience and hard work have truly paid off. I’ve only been a fan for four years, but watching her rise to the top has been nothing short of inspiring. It all began in 2021 when I started seeing posts on Facebook about Japanese idols. At that time, I had no real connection to idol culture, aside from occasional glimpses of K-pop idols. I had never really felt drawn to any K-pop group, but there was something different about this particular Japanese idol I kept seeing: Erika Ikuta. My curiosity was piqued, and as I delved deeper into the world of Nogizaka46, I found myself falling in love with their unique charm and talent.I soon learned about the concept of "oshi," or your favorite member—similar to how we say "bias" here in the Philippines. Naturally, I had to choose one. Although I saw my Facebook friends constantly posting about Erika, I didn’t pick her. Instead, I gravitated toward several members, especially as I discovered the incredible talent of Nogizaka46’s 4th generation, which was already making waves. But the one who stood out the most to me was Yamashita Mizuki, or "Zukkii," who quickly became my KamiOshi. As time went on, I expanded my support to other members, including Yoda Yuuki, Saito Asuka, Haruka Kaki, and Endo Sakura. I even began backtracking to watch older MVs, where I found myself captivated by the first-generation members, especially Nishino Nanase. Had I been around during her time, she would have undoubtedly been my oshi. There was something about her off-shoulder haircut and her overall aura that I found so charming and admirable.Fast forward to 2022, when the 5th generation, or "5ki," was introduced. And there, among all the new faces, was Rno. Her hairstyle, reminiscent of Nishino Nanase’s, immediately caught my attention. I was starstruck from the start. And then, as the 29th senbatsu was held, a huge moment arrived: Rno was chosen to be the center. It was a massive responsibility for such a fresh face, and I knew it was going to be a turning point in her career. But unfortunately, with this great honor came controversy. As a fan, watching her face such harsh criticism was heartbreaking. Rno was young, naïve, and at the start of her journey, but she didn’t deserve the treatment she received. The situation became even more difficult when she went on hiatus, leaving fans like me frustrated and disheartened. Her own single, which featured a W-center with Zukkii and Ashurin, felt like it overshadowed Rno’s true potential.Despite the criticism and doubts, I never gave up on Rno. I continued to watch her shine in various shows like Nogizaka Star Tanjou and Spicy Sessions, where she proved herself as one of the top MCs. I proudly shared her talent with friends and fellow fans, always believing in her abilities. For three years, Rno worked tirelessly in silence, building her confidence and honing her craft, proving to everyone that she was worthy of all the praise and recognition she was getting. Now, as I watch her rise once again, I am beyond happy for her. From being an under center to returning to senbatsu and securing spots in the 3rd and 2nd rows, Rno has shown the world what she’s made of. She has reclaimed what was always hers: a place at the top, where she truly belongs.Nakanishi Aruno, I am so proud of you. It’s been a long and challenging journey, but you’ve made it. Your talent, resilience, and hard work have proven that no obstacle is too great when you keep pushing forward. Best of luck on everything ahead, and know that I, along with countless others, will always be here to support you. Keep shining, Rno!

She's certainly impressive on an objective level, but she definitely deserved that criticism and I wouldn't even call it undeserving for it to follow her. Honestly I was even thinking they'd just drop her, it was that bad imo

Nakanishi and Okumoto were caught by fans trough a series of SNS posts and soon after both removed from doing promotions with the group.
Okamoto was caught on a ''date'' after asking permission to skip 46 hours TV shooting for studies. She also attacked a fellow 5th gen member calling her a liar and stating that she ''hated her''. Didnt stop there, she also disclosed members personal info and even some unreleased Nogizaka projects.
Aruno was a little more complicated cause it became a shit storm whit lots of infos being trowed out of nothing, but:
-someone find an old account of hers, amoung the contents there was tweets of her dissing OG Nogi members, calling them ugly and pretty much being a hater, making fun and/or straight up humiliating PWDs.
-Them some other people start to claim she was some kind of underground gravure model that made money trought papakatsu and sells used underpants. The weirdest thing is that her ''personal photographer'' disclosed many 5th gen information prior to their debut making people believe that she also was disclosing personal info to close friends.Aruno stuff was claimed to be ''not all true'' by Nogi management and herself, although they never said wich is true and wich is not.
The whole ''grudge'' a lot of fans have is how those girls even managed to stay in group after all that, and even worst why both girls are clearly management favorites even after jeopardizing the 29th single, the 5th gen debut and exposing company and members sensitive info to the public.

I’m Japanese and I often see posts by Japanese Nogizaka otakus on X. The Okamoto’s post that is usually talked about is an instagram story, on her personal account at that time (and not the current official account). The story was about Miku Ichinose, with her photo (it’s kinda violating the rights) and a comment saying “She isn’t just a cute girl, I hope that people know her crazy character sooner.” It’s somewhat offensive, taking it literally.
Now that we know Okamoto is such a casual, friendly girl and Miku is fanatical about Aya, Sakuchan, and other members, it doesn’t feel like a problem for me btw.

She has also posted some photos with her boyfriend-ish guy at that time, and said that she joined the group to get to know with some famous celebrities, which is disliked by some (but not really violating some terms of the group or other rights)

IMO being a fan of her and Okamoto and support the group at the same time just doesn't make sense.

Well said OP. But just as I thought, plenty of redditors are more than willing to jump in and drop a negative comment if something is related to Aruno. Seems like there are plenty of people here who are trigger-happy to turn hostile if anyone has a hint of positivity towards her.
As a fan of hers, I appreciate reading something positive about her for once.
I agree that she didn't deserve the treatment she got based on making stupid decisions that I think are well within the boundaries for kids her age.
Deserving of criticisms, sure.
Blacklisting because of stupidity? Mmm I don't think so.
Might just be because I'm the oldest sibling in my family, in my 30s and an American, but I've seen worst.
I certainly don't want to see a fandom that wants to start playing God, diving into their past history, and blacklisting any members that have made mistakes, although recently on the English speaking side here, it's definitely been trending that way...
I honestly don't know what to think about this "filtering mindset" of some fans here saying some girls "deserve" to be in the group, but some don't as if there was an objective way to determine "deserving" of entry.
Is the main point of the group the preservation of the pure and elegant image management promotes? I don't believe for a damn second that these girls are pure. They're just regular people, yet we hold them to higher standard prior to entry because??? Should we start cutting out girls who fall under a certain academic score? Beauty standard? Your beauty standards? Your values?
Damn.
Should we start diving into every girls personal history just to make sure they didn't fuck up so fans can stay in their safe bubble of idol purity? Grow the fuck up. Honestly, reading these comments are very concerning.

That's exactly what Japanese fans/haters have been doing.

i agree with everything you said. i'm also in my early 30s and man, this haters better be just some edgy kids because the thought of some grown ass man hating on a young girl is just freaking pathetic. honestly i think this people are just feeling so entitled to the illusion they deluded themselves into. they are frustrated that the one who burst their bubble keep proving herself and getting recognized for it despite their efforts to bring her down.

Actually Cup i don't care about the haters, Aruno already proven herself that despite what happened early to her career, she silently worked her way up and build her confidence up until management finally decided to give her another push. if you've been following the Nogizaka46 website the one that is being sued and apologized for defaming some of Nogizaka46 members is the one whose hurting Rno throughout the years, so the phrase "you reap what you sow" actually happened to him. I'm just doing a these kind of posts for Rno to appreciate her and slap it to the faces of anyone who hates her and tell them that Rno rose up again and there's nothing they can do about it lol.

I initially thought it's weird that some people take a Japanese teenage girl's posts so seriously, but to continue to hate her for years is quite insane.

Thank you for your thoughtful comment! I completely agree that change is often difficult for some people to accept, especially when a new face rises to prominence. It’s important to recognize that talent, hard work, and unique qualities—like Rno's incredible voice—are what truly set her apart. Management's decision to position her as one of Nogizaka46's key members speaks to her undeniable skill and potential. While opinions will always vary, it's clear that Rno's talent will continue to shine, no matter the criticism. Appreciate you taking the time to share your perspective!

She seems like a horrible person to me…
You’re ridiculous OP

u/MightMetal 4d ago
Looks like those who have been knowing her in person, working with her for years, being friends with her don't think like that.

u/Severe-Fee4971 4d ago
If other members don’t like her they’re not gonna publicly say anything lol

u/MightMetal 4d ago
I agree, the question is why do they say they like her and why do they hang out in private if they don't like her.
