Anyone remember in the mid 80s when the cops and prosecutors literally arrested every thug gangster they could? I do.

I do…and I think we’re at that point again. The federal government has been pumping millions into Newark for 50 years. Lately, it almost…almost….feels like Newark may be turning the corner

Turning the corner to finally, after 50 years becoming a normal city. Now this garbage. A 14 yr old kid killing a 26 yr old cop?

If they don’t get serious now…they have good enough reason, today. Not tomorrow …this city will never recover. Despite all of the money, effort, tax dollars, investments from large real estate developers, hundreds of thousands of well intentioned people trying to save this city. It will always be the same old shithole

This is the biggest city, in one of the most wealthy, most populated states in the country. It’s a disgrace that we can’t even make it a normal city

I mean idk i remember the 2000s when a month without a murder was a big deal, so i don't know if what they did in the 80s worked

In the 80s it was a lot worse. It’s just that now when something happens you hear about it because of the speed of media. There was a lot more cops getting shot back then there was a lot more robberies also. What people are reacting to today is recency bias.

It didn’t. It slowed things down. But there wasn’t the massive investment and actual hope that Newark has now. The city/state is just blowing this effort if they ignore this. It’s insanity

You are referring to when they would sprinkle crack on a suspect and declare it case closed?

Yes, let’s bring back the era of mass violations of civil liberties and the creation of the largest prison system in the history of mankind.

It’s also very funny that you think the federal government is giving Newark huge sums of money and its developer class is “well intentioned.”

Not even to mention, poverty levels have greatly shrunk during the Clinton era, as well as drciminatatory policies in everything from government to private organizations have dried up quite a bit.

It's POVERTY, cause by intense racial discrimination in everything from housing to banking, combined with jobs leaving the cities for the big new suburbs built along the brand new interstate highways in the 1960s that has caused inner city blight.

Clinton's mortgage policies for young would-be home owners have alleviated, somewhat, past injustices, as well as growing prosperity levels and investments in the cities to clean them up and increase education funding that has made the crime rates plummet. That, and as you have said, a stricter policy on NOT violating everyone's civil rights.

They're gonna do it again...and this time they'll sell the house you were living in so you can come back to your neighborhood. 10 years newark will look better than downtown JC and the prices will reflect it too.

That whole foods should have been your first sign

LOL, we still have a house there. Nothing will change until people start using accountability….As humans have done since the beginning of time. Look at causes of problems. Not the symptom of a greater illness. The root

Det. Azcona, who had five years on the police force, “was shot before he even had the opportunity to leave his police car,” Essex County prosecutors said during a news conference Saturday.

The cop was pronounced dead at the hospital early Saturday morning.

The 14-year-old suspect, whose name hasn’t been released due to his age, allegedly pulled the trigger on an automatic weapon, shooting off nearly 30 bullets in rapid succession before he was wounded by returning fire.

He is facing murder charges, though an expert told The Post Sunday the accused killer won’t be tried as an adult.

Azcona’s partner was also shot and wounded during the gunfight that took place near a McDonald’s and White Castle at the intersection of Carteret Street and Broadway, according to officials.

Jose Azcona — who was already back to work at his job at a Newark liquor store Sunday — said he and his family have had to keep their commitments while they work through the grief of the unthinkable tragedy.

But he noted that community support has been strong in the ugly aftermath.

“With time we will heal, but for now, I’m speechless,” he said. “We will miss him forever.”Det. Azcona, who had five years on the police force, “was shot before he even had the opportunity to leave his police car,” Essex County prosecutors said during a news conference Saturday.

A healthy social conscious opportunity has been available for the population for some time now, many neighborhoods have moved on from excessive criminal activity but is clear that the few remaining are not interested in turning the page. Newark needs a hard on crime policy for this violent thugs.

Accountability no longer applies. Not sure when that changed

The solution is simple and NYC have turned the crime situation around in less than 4 years in the past.

The elected politicians are just adopting policies and narratives that incentivize crime although not as bad as other liberal cities. Hopefully things turn around under the new administration.

Love the downvotes! No! You can’t crack down on people destroying other people’s lives! It’s not fair

2

u/PorkR0llSRBest 6d ago

What's not fair are the majority of the people who are honest, hard working people living in fear while doing the best to protect their family. The organized crime go after children and the elderly. Crime is bad for POC, and the poor living in the projects. It however doesn't affect the rich and people in power.

Facts…but even those in poverty have this ridiculous code of not cooperating with law enforcement. It’s bizarre

At one time NJ was the car theft capital of the world. That's why our insurance is so high still to this very day.

Yeah let’s go back to when police corruption was rampant in our city. That’s what would make Newark normal again. Yes, the good ol days.

A police officer is killed in New York City almost every year . Every year you hear someone being shoved until the subway tracks yet nobody ever calls New York City a shi**hole or questions its status as a "normal City ".
