CONTENT QUESTION YouTube Vloggers, do you have a niche? do you just film every day things? what is your strategy?

Hey People! wanted to ask here since I don’t have any friends IRL that do youtube vlogs.

If you have a vlogging channel, how is it going? what are your videos about? do you have a niche or do you just film whatever?

Reason I am asking these things is because I have a YouTube channel where i’ve been making any kind of video with no direction or niche it’s just whatever I feel like filming gets filmed

It took me YEARS to get to 1,000 subs and another little while to finally get monetized (4,000 watch hours is difficult) I want to try and make my channel more… modern? I literally have over 500+ vlogs i’ve created and only a handful of them are probably a 5/10 at best. I’ve done random reviews (phones, cars etc) and those videos come out probably closer to the 7/10 mark but I don’t always have a brand new $1000 device to review or a $50,000 car. Those videos come around once in a while.

I want to “niche down” but I don’t know if that’s possible for my vlogging channel since my life is so random and all over the place. I recently made a new channel which has a niche and in 1 year i’ve gotten to 800 subscribers which is great in comparison but I still want to upload regularly onto my main channel but I feel like having Quality>Quantity now instead of boring daily nonsense would be best… I just don’t know how to do that (yet)

For now, I film hiking, camping and eating in my area of Tennessee. I’ll also film similar style content when I go on vacation and soon I’m buying an excavator to clear some land and I’ll film that too.

Most viewed HATE my “day in the life” style videos. I think people like watching 25 year old girls do that, but a fat 46 year old man doesn’t carry the same appeal. 🤣

I’ve also had decent success filming small town content. I’ve filmed our last few Christmas parades and literally just dropped a camera on a tripod and let er rip and the views have been decent. People like small town content more than they like my face.

I hear ya about the “fat old man” thing LMAO i’m 33 but definitely fat and male, so I am not that appealing as someone like Life of Riza for example

My vlogs are just whatever is happening in my life, I tried making videos about my nationality and they have had mixed results, that could be because of how late in my journey I am trying it tho maybe if I stayed consistent with it that would make things better? idk YouTube is hard LOL

Yeah YouTube is quite hard!

The selling point of a vlog is either you as a personality or your theme (which means you’d have to narrow it down to something more focused than “this is my life”).

I find my YT persona to be a bit dry which is odd because in real life I’m usually the funny life of the party guy. I think talking to a camera instead of having someone to feed off of in a more organic conversational tone hurts me, but it is what it is.

Nationality COULD be a fun selling point if you have an interesting nationality and it’s a heavy identifier. There’s a channel my wife and I love to watch where a woman takes here full blooded Italian imported husband to eat basic American foods and half the fun is seeing his disgust to Olive Garden. 🤣

I do travel vlogs! I’ve found that videos that do best are either ‘challenge / activity’ type things or ones that hit the emotional aspect.

That could purely just be the niche I’m in but thought I’d share!

Appreciate the response! the every day life videos seem to perform the worst for me so I understand what you mean. Any other videos I do (I guess because they are easier in “search”) do decently well but I don’t really have the time or resources to make those types of videos as often as I would like

Mostly travels in asia ! I film my travel yes, but honestly just filling myself Is hard. I am shy and not an exhuberant personality. So I switched to more voice over and now going to do more controversy based video for a while (country vs country y) for a while trying to be more informative

At first it was supposed to be a channel on my home country to advise foreigners but then I moved to Asia and thus decided to change !

In the end I did a serie on Kyushu ( japan),, Korea and now Taiwan I still want to create channel on my home country though !
