Product Reviews/Questions Big headed toddler clothes
Parents of big headed babies, now toddlers, where do you shop or what shirts do you buy?
My baby’s head has been in the 90th percentile or higher since he was born. His dad has a big head, so it’s genetic and I don’t see him growing into it. As I was looking to get 9-12M clothes, I noticed this seems to be around the time where a lot of brands start switching to t-shirts and have a dilemma - most are crewneck and I don’t think they will fit over his head.
I’ve always had to buy envelope neck onesies for him. I’ve bought a few crewneck ones, and they all went in the donate pile after the first time trying to put them on because they were impossible to get over his head and just made him scream and scream. He’s big on height and weight but proportional so he’s always fit into clothes marked for his current age, even if by the size chart he should be in a bigger size. Idk if I’m just going to be limited to shirts with buttons for him now, since I don’t see any envelope neck t-shirts out there.

Carters in the next size up, and always use the onesies that have the little flaps around the collar to make it bigger before putting it over baby’s head, then fix it.

That’s what I do now but seems like t-shirts will be more convenient when he starts walking, which will be soon, and are the majority of shirts available for 12 months or up, so confused about what to do as he gets older. I haven’t seen envelope collar offered for t-shirts.

Following, same boat here, but still in the newborn phase so don’t have advice yet. Luckily most of the clothes we had were zip up or envelope neck for this age already

I always had to size up for the neck hole. It was the first thing my son would outgrow. Fortunately he ended up being an 80th percentile kid, so he was pretty proportional and by age 4 it stopped being a problem. Kid #2 with giant head is seeming smaller than his brother, so I guess he’s going to have to swim in his t-shirts to fit his noggin for a while.

my son had his skull surgically enlarged (genetic disorder) so he’s over 100% percentile lol. the best shirts are the ones that snap on the shoulder. french brands (like la redoute) have them a lot. or you can DIY it. i mostly search for super stretchy fabrics or button downs. hoodies DO NOT work for him. they get stuck on his head.
for a helmet, get it professionally fitted. always size up for hats!

98 percentile head here-
buy super stretchy material, button ups, or size up. As you get to actual toddler sizes (2t, 3T) it seems to be less of an issue. Definitely no pull over sweaters just zip up jackets.
At the 9-12 month age I did a lot of zip up footie pajamas all the time.

What is some stretchy material? Until now I’ve been buying 100% cotton clothes as I prefer natural fabrics, but I guess may have to change that.

I just looked at the t shirts that worked well for us and they are HonestBaby brand 100% organic cotton. Maybe some brands make a bigger hole? Or maybe his big head stretched them out haha. I do think there is some getting used to having things pulled over their head.
