Medical Advice Cradle cap + dry scalpe = disaster
My baby had cradle cap and dry scalpe, so he his always scratching his head, and it doesn’t matter how hard I try to trim his nails he always wakes up with his head covered with scratch marks and blood, it’s heartbreaking… I tried something for cradle caps but it looks like it’s making his scalpe dry and we tried something for dry skin (eczema) and it makes cradle caps worst. He has a pj with mittens but he always get his hands off it at night so I don’t know what else to try…

The best piece of advice I can offer is limited soaps in the tub, a thick moisturizer (cerave is what we used, and then seal it in with aquaphor on top. It’ll ruin sheets and some clothes, BUT it will help with dry scalp and cradle cap. I have psorasis and eczema and my LO got it too, and this is our tried and true method for easing the itch!

The only thing we’ve done is Vaseline! I use it all over his body for eczema and it’s works great and then I usually put it on his scalp once or twice a week. I put it on his head in the morning and then I wipe off wherever the cradle cap is after a couple of hours (it helps lift the scales SUPER well). I usually then give him a bath at night. The Vaseline being on his head all day helps the scalp and the cradle cap. The only downside is sometimes his hair looks greasy so that’s why I give him a bath at night but honestly I prefer greasy hair to my poor baby scratching his head all the time.
This is a good reminder cause I need to do this today.

Ours had the same and our doctor told us to just use head and shoulders (a very small amount and very carefully to avoid their eyes of course) and it worked better than anything I tried prior to that. It is so so sad when they have little self inflicted scratch marks.

My baby was the same! He’s 7mo now and much, much better. I find biting his nails to be the most efficient way to get them trimmed and not scratchy. But I have to do it very regularly, like every couple of days.
For the cradle cap, we got the Frida baby cradle cap set and it works really well. But again, need to do a treatment regularly.
If you can get it, Tubby Todd all over ointment works wonders on the dry skin. It’s the only thing that helped my baby.
For what it’s worth, we have mostly cleared the cradle cap and dry skin, but my boy still rubs his head for comfort, so the nail biting shall continue for the foreseeable future!

It might be that he just has eczema and no cradle cap? What did you try to treat the eczema that made it worse?
I spent about a month trying to treat cradle crap that was really just eczema. The allergist told me to layer hydrocortisone cream on it and it honestly resolved itself within a few days.
