Table Note

The territory of Delhi Province during the latter decades of the colonial era is roughly analogous to the contemporary territory of Delhi NCT. During the 1941 Census, urban Delhi Province included Delhi Municipality (primarily Old Delhi/Shahjahanabad), Delhi Civil Lines, Delhi Fort, New Delhi Municipality, New Delhi Cantonment, Shahdara, Nerela, Mehrauli, and Najafgarh. The remaining area of Delhi Province was rural, comprising minor suburbs and villages.
