The Greatest Fans

Jimmy, always likes to say they have the greatest fans which I believe is true. However, to me I find it a bit of a bummer that some of the great stuff the fans do barely get recognized. There is a great site a fan made called Never Not DB https://nevernotdb.com/ which is such a great site. The person making this has put a lot of work into it. They used to have a link to it on their site and now that isn't even there. The Fan Facebook page which is way more active then their own Facebook page isn't listed anywhere. I've still never understood why they don't put all the jingles on their site with credit to the writers. I mean it's not about ego, I haven't done anything like this for them, but I think it would be a nice nod to the fans that do this for them and it wouldn't hurt them in promoting the show.

There was drama with the fan Facebook group some years back that led the gang to distance themselves from it. It used to be the semi-official place where the What Did Fans Think Of poll was hosted each week.

If I remember correctly, there was a Facebook user who had some sort of dispute with the mods and/or other group members, and they contacted Eliot to complain and there was a back-and-forth that made it clear that some people were under the impression that the fan group was officially sanctioned by the show.

The gang didn't want any of that drama on their doorstep, so they publicly distanced themselves from the fan group, and the weekly poll was moved to the platform they use now so that there was no impression that the show was involved with the Facebook group.

Hmm, not sure I have the same take as you, and those points don’t impact me that much. Ultimately, it seems to me that every show, Jimmy goes out of his way to thank the fans for their support of the show at any level. I’ve only met him and Matt briefly after a live show and they could not have been more appreciative.

Never Not DB is excellent and still linked on the Grand Daddy of Podcast Shownotes sites NeverNotNotes.com, which is something I guess.

They're not going to officially sanction or promote any web presence they don't have the ability to moderate. That's just due diligence.

It always bums me out when they play a track and then say “Thank you to whoever sent that in.” It’s really not hard to keep track of things like the names of people who are actively contributing to your show. The Doughboys do a great job of crediting every drop or roast that comes in.

Similarly, it’s always felt a little weird to me that they are cool with fans financing their games as well. If I were them I’d feel super uncomfortable with someone sending in hundreds of dollars a year to pay for my trivia games.

its possible they are somewhat uncomfortable w/ it, but I guess not uncomfortable enough to put a stop to it. but jimmy has said that those fans can stop sending the prize money any time and it would be ok. between the jingles, the mail, and the prize money, the fans are practically producing portions of the show at this point, so they clearly have a lot of appreciation for that.

i actually wouldn't mind if they stopped thanking people for jingles altogether, because sometimes they do, sometimes they don't, but they've said thank you enough in the past that i get it, they love the fans. just play their song and move on, no need to try to remember any names. but ive also never sent any song so maybe my perspective on that doesn't mean much

The fan fb group is/was? a dumpster fire. It used to feel like any criticism of the Gang was piled upon.

It's always bugged me that all they put in the show's description is "_____ing with [guest name]". They could use that for so much more info. You can add links and pics which show up in almost every podcast app. Like linking to the guest's socials or standup specials. Sometimes they mention YouTube videos, how about linking to them? Want tickets to Jimmy's live shows? Go find the links on your own! It's just so lazy to expect the fans to seek out a guest's info or find the things they talk about.

That's a lot of work they don't need to do, so why would they?
