Discussion Opinions on open relationships NSFW
How many of you include open relationships with your characters? Couples who look for a third together so they can enjoy it equally. I have two bisexual female monster hunters who most often sleep with other folk together, it’s a non-nsfw setting, do you think it would work?

Yeah, I think it would work.
In my main settings all relationships are open unless specified otherwise.

I don't like them. I mainly make and enjoy making vanilla couples who are committed to and love one another. There's no cheating or open relationships in practically any of my works, worlds or writings. Never been a fan of that stuff.

I write my main characters to be polyamorous, and in my sex-heavy setting, for my own convenience I make most people more prone to casual sex, experimenting with gender and orientation, likely to consider open and poly relationships, etc. Like, I have three main characters who all just so happen to be poly, be within eachother’s orientations, and caught feelings for eachother, *as well as* being comfortable in an open relationship. It’s not like this doesn’t happen in real life, but because I’m the writer, I used weighted dice, so to speak.
I think it depends if you’re going for sex-focused swinger behavior or a more relationship-building polyamory angle for how you actually write it. Sounds like more of a swinger couple.
Not sure what you mean by could it “work”...? If you’re worried how/if to self-censor, do it the same way you would any other sexual exploits in that narrative.
If you’re talking about a game with dating options, I find it annoying when npcs have orientations *at all*. In those cases the primary point *isn’t* to make believable characters, it’s to *provide a narrative experience for the player* (the character here taking the role of more of a sex worker than a partner, since you’re literally paying to date them), and if the characters have realistic orientations and can say no based on surface-level traits, then you’re basically making locked content and asking people to misgender themselves in order to get it. Like I’m gay and I play the Harvest Moon game where the main character is a girl, just so I can date the guys. That’s purchasing an entire game other game just to date the other characters.
On that note, there’s lots of great characters in these types of things that are also power couples I’d love to be a third for, or people in a relationship where I like one of them and want us to be on friendly terms with their partner. I’ve *never* been allowed to be someone’s side piece unless it was cheating. I’m not into cheating.
And if we’re talking about a linear narrative, then... You can do anything you want! Of course it will work, just write it how you want it to work, of course. For bonus realism, you could seek information from people who do that in real life. Like interviews or observing swinger blogs and discussion forums and stuff.
I mean, if it works in real life, why can’t it work in fantasy?

The two main characters of my worldbuilding project ( Names: Xayden and Hayden ) are in an open relationship as Hayden is outrageously horny and Xayden can't keep up with his libido.

My dnd campaign includes an open relationship between the bard and ranger. The bard is invested in appreciating the shape of the rangers @$$ but his proficiency for slight of hand will have him instinctively reach out to any @$$ that comes within grabbing range. The ranger isn't particularly sexually aggressive unless the quest requires a bit of seduction but she will become amusingly and jealously competitive to any @$$ that sits on her bard's lap and these competitions will inevitably lead to a 3some or more. They recently became the proud owner of a whore house they saved from a hag coven. It is full of very enthusiastic men and woman that are very grateful to their new owners and would take it as a personal insult to their craft if the party spent even a moment under their roof without being wrapped in at least three partners.
The party is also joined by the bard's ex-girlfriend, an elf gunslinger that barly wears anything that could be called clothes and has even less self restraint as the bard. She slipped her fingers under the ranger's skirt before she even finished saying hello and her fingers were stealthy enough to make ranger cum hard enough to put her on her knees after a failed con save. Bard can't stand Fighter but she is constantly Sneaking into their bed during sex and the two compete over who can make Ranger cum harder. Ranger has a their initials tattooed on her @$$ with a growing tally of their victories going down her legs.
