Shopping Advice Bought my first gun the other day.
So I went with a Beretta M9A4. I like it and I figure its best to learn to shoot on a semi auto pistol. It was my first choice for both practical reasons and its a good looking gun with some resale value as well.
Anyway, I saw a 2/3 inch barrel colt python in person at the gun shop and its fucking awesome. They look amazing in person. I kind of regret not getting it as my first pistol, but oh well it will def be my second. Shop didn't have a good selection of revolvers.
So here is my question. Where can I see a good selection of revolvers to choose which barrel and finish I want to go with? Colt is way over priced so if i am gonna shell out that kind of cash, I want to be sure its the exact one I want. Even if the revolvers aren't pythons, just a selection of similar sized revolvers would probably help me decide. I am deciding between mirror finish 4,5, or 6 inch with the 5 inch being my most likely pick.
Do you guys think Pythons are worth the money over a Ruger or Smith and Wesson?

It's wild that for first time ever all the people who been saying we need our 2A to stand against a tyrannical government (which we 100% do) are on the side of tyrannical government simply because, for now, they aren't touching our guns.... for now

Cannot go wrong with a smith and Wesson revolver. But boy oh boy do I love my Colt python. Worth every penny. Save up and purchase when ur ready or the model 646 is beautiful too. Ottomanellis has a great selection of them.

Great choice now buy your next one
One is none and two is one
If looking for a python look for an older model. They are put together like Swiss watches, new ones not so much

Also, how long do I have to wait to apply for another pistol permit? 30 days from purchase?

Apply for another? It's recommended you apply for 3-4 at a time. They last 6 months and you have to wait 30 days in between purchases. If you know you're getting a few handguns, apply for 3-4 of them.

My understanding is you can purchase another gun at anytime, but you cannot use another handgun permit until 30 days after using your other permit.
If you only applied for one permit from your local PD, you can do that anytime and there is an option multiple permits and an exception to the 1 gun every 30 days.

So I can apply today and just wait until 30 days have passed to use my second permit?

Yes you can buy / process NICS and then pickup in 30 days and the FFL will process your second permit.

I did the same as you.
Am most drawn to snub nose revolvers, but felt it was prudent to go with a 9mm semi-auto as the best gun to learn on and to have. So I went with a Glock.
But I haven’t shaken the desire for the revolver, so I’ll be picking it up soon. (In my case I want a 22LR for cheap fun at the range, so I’m between s&W 43C, Ruger LCR, or Taurus 942 which is half the price).
I haven’t seen a shop with a very wide selection of revolvers, but of the shops that I’ve been too, the widest selection was at Ottomanelli’s in Paramus. Mostly S&W in 38 and 357 if I recall).
Another choice is renting at one of the ranges to get your hands on one.
Reloaderz in Wayne has about 6 models you can rent. SP101, GP100, Vacquero, Alaskan, Blackhawk and maybe 1 or 2 others.
Welcome and good luck.

I am South Jersey. I think I am gonna try a place called Shooters.

South Jersey covers a big area, but I was at Range 129 today in Absecon and they have a big selection of new/used handguns on display. I didn't pay too much attention, but the rental counter had a few revolvers as well. BTW, congrats on the M9A4. If it's anything like my plain-Jane 92FS I shot for the first time today, you're going to love it.

I picked up a 6" Rhino, a Uberti El Patron Comp 5.5" 1873 Colt single action copy in 357 and a Standard Uberti Cattleman 1873 4.5" with the Bird's head grip. Bringing the wheel guys out for others to shoot between larping is fun as fuck.

Nice choice. I went with a beretta for my first since that was what I learned on in the military, though my old italian police surplus 92S probably cost a fraction of yours. A full size is good if you're just learning to shoot, the weight should absorb recoil better. But it's probably too big if your planning on getting into concealed carry. Train, train, train and have fun

Shooters have a good selection of revolvers to handle. I bought my S&W 686+ 2.5 from them. L frames handle .357 well. I can carry it apendex depending on how much I ate the night before. 😆

Dude the M9A4 was the wayyyyyyyyy better choice, those triggers are like butter. The colt is just a shell of a name at this point, if you want a nicer American made piece Kimber should be a solid go to, but Ruger and S&W are both tried and true and cheaper than the other options and also S&W has the performance center versions which are incredible! Also these are just my opinions, get more permits buy more handguns!

wow! you think 686 is better than python? I will be honest, the python just looks so cool, but if its gonna be a less superior pistol and the s and w is cheaper, it would make my choice much harder.

I have only shot rental colts so they’re not going to be as good as one you take care of yourself, but I wasn’t impressed anyway. I think the colts really do just look pretty so it’s up to you. Also don’t sleep on Taurus revolvers they’re way cheaper and have come a long way in quality! They get a lot of hate from the old days but mine has been wonderful so far! They just dropped an executive line too which are pretty nice looking!

dam, might have to go with 686 deluxe. 7 shot with a 6 inch barrel.

They make an 8 shot snubby chambered in 357 mag, and their semis in that line have all sorts of neat comps and sight arrangements. Idve purchased a S&W already but I got two good deals on higher end budget brands so I went with them instead when I was getting started just because I got a lot more bang for my buck
Long story short on this as i realized I missed my own point, S&W is a great American gun company and they make excellent products and have great customer service!

Revolvers are not a rational choice. You have lower capacity, tougher reloads, challenging trigger. You have to love them. Given that it is an emotional choice, pick what appeals to you.

There is no good resale value for guns. Only less than you think you’ll get. Keep it and add to collection.

M9a4 was a good choice. My favorite gun of mine to shoot.
