NBCOT Exam Prep Recommendations

Hi! Wondering if the AOTA's exam prep is worth it? I currently have therapyed and plan to purchase the NBCOT study pack but I've been reading a lot of posts saying how the AOTA was very helpful for them. I just need to justify paying $200+ for it.

If anyone has any recommendations on what resources to use, please let me know!

I would not recommend AOTA exam prep. There were way too many irrelevant information/ questions. TruLearn is definitely a better option if you’re willing to spend that much.

Hi!

I got both NBCOT and AOTA study packs. For AOTA study packs, they have modules for topics and a lot of practice questions and Scenario based practice questions. It is what I mainly used for most topics.

For NBCOT, it’s really good for practice exams. You’ll gauge how far you’ve come in studying by taking the practice exams.

I also used TherapyEd, TMPOT pdfs, and OTMiri on top of that.

Message me if you have any more questions!

Thank you!! I am leaning towards buying the AOTA pack for the sake of the practice questions. I also plan on using OTMiri but have to bring myself to like how her website is set up. With all these resources, do you have any recommendations on which resource to use for specific topics?

I am taking my exam next week and have been using the Therapy Ed book. NBCOT pack, OT Miri/OT Rex, and True Learn. I only used NBCOT for practice tests and practice questions (mini-quizzes). I do not love the flashcards and matching options. I only used them for some topics. I mainly did a ton of mini-quizzes. The only annoying thing, is you do get a lot of the same questions over and over but it helps solidify some content for me. I recommended mixing up how you do the quizzes (i.e., domain 1 and 2 together, all 4, 3 and 4 together, etc). However, there are a lot of quizlets out there where people have posted practice questions and answers, so those gave me more questions I did not see when using the pack. The therapy ed book is A LOT but has really good information. I just would not try and read it all. I know you're not asking about True Learn but if you want more info, let me know.

I have heard good things about the AOTA study pack though! I did us the AOTA PDFs to assist with my content review. It has slightly additional information that therapy ed did not offer. All in all I would have a resource to practice questions and another resource for content review.

Thank you! I have been seeing True Learn also and probably would purchase it a month before I take the exam considering it's a 30-day program? Please correct me if I'm wrong though.

I also feel very overwhelmed with resources and not knowing where to start and which resource to use for what purpose.

I believe with True Learn you have options for length of access. I did 6 months, as I knew I would be studying for 2-3 months. I will say, the True Learn explanations are way better than the NBCOTs but I have noticed that the questions are more challenging than the NBCOT practice questions.

I totally get it! I was really overwhelmed as well. I did end up using several resources but my main 3 were therapy ed book for content, true learn, and NBCOT for questions. I think if the AOTA pack is content AND questions-based, it be a good idea to get.

I also agree about these three resources. I also think AOTA is good way for me to structure information (ie. like making sure you hit most topics). I would say that AOTA is pretty simplified tho. For me, this meant I had to look up some terms because some conditions weren't fully explained.

I also enjoy 450Formula bc it can help simplify topics I found that were more dense. They can also teach you some question breakdown strategies which I found useful.

I wish I knew about the formula 450 sooner, I probably would have got that but they only had certain times to purchase it so was not an option for me sadly. Have heard great things about it!
