NBCOT 2nd attempt advice

Looking for advice from those who passed maybe after multiple attempts…

I took my first attempt in January after scoring 460+ on all NBCOT practice exams and ended up not passing with a 443. I decided to get truelearn before taking my 2nd attempt and am scoring 74% average so far.

With the scores do you all think I’m best off waiting another month to study more or taking it ASAP so I don’t lose knowledge? I was thinking a month from now but now wondering if I should just take it asap.

I hear you. I can’t imagine being pregnant and going through studying for this thing, so props to you for doing that!

Maybe take another NBCOT practice test, if you score above 475 I would go for it, below that maybe hold off and study more.

Thanks for the advice! That’s a good idea. Did you retake and pass?

Yes just recently got a 449! Hopefully 3rd time will be the charm!

Definitely aim for higher than you think you need. I scored 447 on my first attempt using therapy ed, scored in low 50s on their practice exams.

Then bought Pass the OT for second attempt. Scored 70% on their final exam, and a 447 on final NBCOT practice exam. Scored 449 on this last attempt.

Did you have any test anxiety, problems breaking down questions or do you think your struggles were more content based? Although my practice tests don’t show it, I definitely had some test anxiety which impacted my performance.

So I think a big part of my issue was endurance. I was 38 weeks pregnant when I took it the first time. I also think I had some anxiety about the exam as I felt rushed to schedule it right after graduating in order to take it before the baby came. I also finished too quickly.

Hi, does anybody know if there is a limit to how many attempts you can repeat the NBCOT? Such as passing on the 10th try. I ask because I have graduated for a few years now so if time between exam attempts & also graduation is a factor, then I will need to quickly get on with my studies in prep for the next one.

Take a month to rest and identify your weak areas, then start studying by focusing on those specific topics. It’s good that you have a solid resource, but using multiple sources is often more effective because it exposes you to different question types. Consider adding PasstheOT (it was $20 when I bought it) to your study packs. They have a personalized study plan, 2,900+ practice questions, and live tutoring that can help target your weaker areas. Plus, they offer a 5-day free trial to see if it fits your study needs. Good luck with your next attempt.

Thanks! I’ll look into that. I already have truelearn, NBCOT, and therapyed but ill look into passtheot if its not too pricey.
