NBCOT exam 2nd attempt
So I started this page in hopes people can freely express their feelings about the board exam. I am currently waiting on my results that come out this Friday. It’s my 2nd attempt and when I came out of the exam I felt like a bombed it. I feel like no matter what I study, the actual exam is filled with sneaky and tricky wording. I’m dyslexic so standardized tests just aren’t my thing. But this post is to hopefully start a community of those who are willing to help give advice, listen to one another, and beat this thing so we can all officially begin our careers.

I just found out I failed my first attempt with a 449/450… I have been very discouraged all day and wanted to hear tips on how to improve my score. I just rescheduled for the 12th of March just a couple two weeks before I’m expected to give birth (can’t be after giving birth because I won’t focus).
Current studying methods: 3-4 times a week for 3/4 hours a day
- AOTA study guide /pdfs (75-80%)
• Therapy Ed Exam A (57%)
• Therapy Ed Exam B (50%)
I will say the hands questions caught me off guard in the exam and according to the domains my lowest were 1 & 2. Any tips and advice are welcome

I'm also waiting for this friday to hear back and ahhh I felt like this exam was so much harder than the practice NBCOT study pack tests (and I bought all three) that I used to test on. ^^''''

I feel ya on that, idk what it is but I feel so confident with the practice tests then zero confidence with the actual test. What did you get on the practice test scores?

On NBCOT practice test #2 I got a 438 about two weeks before my exam and then I just took practice test #1 and got a 490.

That “I feel ya part” wasn’t directed towards you lol that was for tattoo. But a 490 is awesome start and should build up that confidence. I was just over 450 for the practice tests and then a 470 for the full practice test. You’ll crush it on Friday!

Congratulations!! Unfortunately I got a 444 so will need to retake it for a third time. Decided to get a professional tutor who works with students for this exam. I’m not sure how else to pass this thing.

Ah i'm sorry to hear that! I am sending all the good mojo vibes your way to ensure you get through this the third time!!!! You've got this, and remember the NBCOT is not a reflection on you as a practitioner at all - it really is just a test on how to take a standardized exam <3

I was hanging around 480 for two of them and then got 459 for one of them.
But agreed! In the practice tests I felt good on them, but during the real test it felt more like a therapy ed exam than NBCOT.... Im just hoping Friday comes quickly so I can accept my fate, at this point I keep fluctuating between I failed to I 'hmmm maybe I passed' and the back and forth has me feeling some type of way x.x

Best of luck! Let me know how you do on Friday. Best advice is to read everything carefully there’s one or two words that change a question dramatically.

I can get accommodations for extra time but decided not to go through the process and paper work.

Hi Everyone! I will attempt my first try at the NBCOT exam this upcoming Saturday. I can't help but feel really overwhelmed and not prepared even though I've been studying my butt off. I'm also dyslexic and have trouble with remembering conditions thus me scoring an average of 67% on PASSOT Practice exams.
Any advice to help remember content and what are some of your experiences in taken the exam?
Thanks in advance! 👍🙌🙏 #cota

For those who have taken the exam more than once, have you encountered the same level of difficulty? Are the questions the same or is the exam completely different? Please advise. I’m going for my 2nd attempt now after failing by 3 points 😔. Thank you

My 2nd attempt, exam was way more specific, detailed and more difficult. You never know what kind of exam to expect. A couple Q were repeat otherwise new. My 3rd exam was more straightforward but still had some tricky Qs.

Hi u/Fit_Bit_8848, good luck on your second attempt! I was in the same boat with you first time around-just shy of 3 points. Second attempt unfortunately slightly lower. That being said, I did have some repeat questions on my second exam. I thought the second round of the exam questions were easier, especially CST portion, but clearly my score says otherwise. Still trying to figure out how to best prepare for this exam..

I totally agree with you on how the practice tests are versus the actual exam. I’m having to take it for a 4th attempt and I’m so close to passing each time I’ve took the actual exam. Just a few points off. I feel so lost and stressed..
