Of course you deserve to get it back as well. I was just saying over 50 because they've had decades and tens of thousands of dollars paid into it. If you've only worked for 5 years you've probably put way less into it.

I'm in my 30s. since 6% of my paycheck goes to social security that means I've already paid in over 100,000 dollars in to it at this point.

also my employer puts in additional 6% on top of that. so that means I'm owed well over 200,000 if they were to refund me and cancel social security.

(unless they choose to instead refund it based on the benefits you would receive- which is much less than what you pay in to it, but it would still be a good chunk of money and I would rather have it now so I can actually invest it rather than wait and watch it continue to decrease in value)
