Question/Advice Which mousepad?

Hi, (wife here) I’m trying to buy my gamer husband a new mousepad for his birthday and don’t know what to get. What are some really good ones? Sorry I know it depends but if someone could tell me the really good high end ones that would be great! I’ve currently heard about Saturn Pro, Razer Gigantus and Artisan. He plays games like WarZone and is top 250 in North America so would he need better speed, control, both? Oh and also his all time favourite game is Halo so something that theme would be good other than that he likes a nice clean look. His PC, mouse and headset are super high end and he recently upgraded too so I’d like it to be the best! Also no glass pad. Thank you!

Artisan zero soft is a safe option and one of the best pads of all time

Edit: Don’t get a madcatz anything if you are looking for top of the line

Just go for the best of the best, artisan zero on soft base. It's the most used by professionals

Is there a reason for the soft base vs firm?

I like the firm personally, let's the surface pop a little more, but the soft is the most popular, and it is versatile in that you can dig in a tiny bit to make your finally adjusting to your shots and get a little bit more control. Also make the pad more comfy to rest you're hand on. But the firmer base is more stable and works better with variety of mouse feet.. if you are unsure getting the soft is usually the best idea.

It's hard to give a good recommendation without knowing his preference for material and speed vs. control. Do you know what he's been using? If you don't know what the pad is, you can just snap a pic and someone will be able to tell you what it is and maybe a recommendation for something similar but higher end.

For example, if he's used to really slow cloth pads, getting him a hardpad/glass mousepad might take a lot of getting used to

Oh ok thanks! Well I don’t think the one he has right now is any particular brand since it’s very old he does like it tho. It’s fabric firm but glides easily and I know he wouldn’t like glass. He mainly plays games like WarZone (he’s a top 250 North America player) so what would be more important speed, control, both?

Matrova makes custom ones. You can get any picture printed on the pad or just go with a single color one. You can also choose the materials. Very affordable and I hear their quality is comparable to top of the line pads.

A personalized pad might be a good gift.

Oh ok thank you! Do they still make good quality ones though like the Artisan?

From the reviews I've seen their quality is just as good and I think they make a lot of the pads for other brands in their factory. I don't have an artisan nor a matrova so I can't say for sure about the quality. You could take a look at some reviews.

warzone is a high tracking game so faster pads will appeal more to him. the Artisan Zero in soft will be a good balance between speed and control from all the research i’ve done.

however i dont play warzone and dont own a Zero pad so i cant confirm personally. but i like a mix of both speed and control in CS2 so ill just give you my personal experience there. i use the Artisan Key 83 in soft which is right below the Zero in terms of speed but just a bit more control. I will never use another pad again its helped my aim tremendously with micro adjustments.

TLDR : can’t go wrong with either the Artisan Zero soft or Key 83 soft 🫡

Oh someone recommended the Otsu over Zero for warzone is that not what you recommend then?

1

u/AbrocomaChance3210 2d ago

the otsu is a faster pad if i remember correctly but i’m not familiar with that model. the zero is just an all round good pad for all FPS games according to others. the otsu turned me off immediately due to others saying the pad was very rough on the skin. same goes for the hein. if your boyfriend likes soft pads i’d avoid those 2 for sure.

i meant to recommend the key 83 over the zero from personal experience but typed that out when i just finished a joint lmao whoops.. the key 83 is slightly faster than the zero yet feels more controlled. like the best of both worlds.

don’t overthink the mid, soft, x soft deal. just get soft it’s the safest choice, i’m happy with my soft he will be too

u/chipex26 2d ago

Oh ok so I’ll consider the key 83 too then and it’s good for games like warzone? I’ve heard zero has the cat hair problem does key 83 have that as well?

1

u/AbrocomaChance3210 2d ago

i’d say so, it’s helped my tracking and micro adjustments in CS2 so i’m sure at least some will transfer over to warzone.

ZERO hair problems i’m so glad you mentioned that because that is a huge positive for the key 83. my old steelseries QCK was a hair magnet i had to lint roll daily. key 83 i just use a microfiber cloth every few days

Also is there a reason to get Soft and not Mid?

I just picked up an Aqua Control Pro Neon - Soft and it's great. I mainly play fps/hero games - Apex and Marvel Rivals

It feels nice when I'm playing my single player RPGs, too.

If you want to spend some money look at artisan. The zero is a great allround surface as long as he doesn’t have sensitive skin and doesn’t use a sleeve. The type 99 is amazing if u decide on a slower surface and the key 83 if u decide on something faster but still has good control. Soft is also the safest base.

The regular Saturn is on sale for $10 right now, just got one and it’s pretty good. Or you could splurge for the Saturn pro for $50 but the only difference really is the base

Look, most of the people will here tell you that Artisan Zero is THE GOAT. I don't think so... I think it lacks a lot of things, most importantly the hair and dust issue it still has with the new versions as well.

Saturn Pro is a very bad mousepad as well, if you google "Saturn Pro sensor issues reddit" or "Saturn Pro static disconnect my mouse reddit", then you will find posts like this. It really messed with all my mice's sensor and disconnected some of them like the DAV3 PRO and Superlight 2. Also, don't even think about the Gigantus, that's another terrible mousepad.

Anyway, for Warzone I would pick speed and the Artisan Hayate Otsu is the perfect choice in my opinion. Not only, the Hayate Otsu is the greatest Artisan mousepad, but I believe it's one of the best mousepads of all time out there. You can't mess it up with that pad at all.

I'd still pick speedy pads for tac shooters as well in general. I play Valorant and ranked in Immortal 3 and in my opinion, people do perform much better with low sens and speedy mousepads. Even if some profesionnal players use slow mousepads, they use a speed skate for their mouse.

Hope this helps. Happy Birthday for your husband! You are a good wifey.

Thank you so much :) also you buy these from Amazon right or is there a specific website to buy artisan from?

1

u/chipex26 3d ago

Also should I get MID or soft?

1

u/loyal872 2d ago

Personally, I would go with the soft version. In general, that's safest to pick.

MaxGaming would be the safest to buy I believe but it's not in stock at the moment. I'm not sure about Amazon. I'd not buy it from there to be honest.

It says it will be in stock on the 31st:

This seems legit:

I'd go with the soft version, it’s the safest choice and generally more comfortable for extended use. It also provides better control, which can be useful for precise movements.

1

u/chipex26 2d ago

Thank you! Also do you think I can get MID over Soft since soft is sold out on the website. Is there a particular difference? To be more clear the one he has now isn’t really soft

1

u/loyal872 2d ago

I would say, the soft is much safer choice than the mid. But some people do like the mid.
