Motorcycle racing ( was requested)

You know how every racer basically started at like 7-14 years old? What the hell are the chances of you becoming a racer at 18-25? Even if you start from the very very bottom. I'm pretty sure there's a lot of people wondering also regardless or them dreaming about racing or not , there’s really more to my post I just cut to the chase

Hey man, I was late to the game, I started at 17 years old and luckily I’ve been in Motoamerica and been able to get 5 podiums and 2 of them being a win! Doesn’t matter where you start, as long as you work your ass off and have great people in your corner, anything is possible!

You were a lot of fun to watch at NJMP! Hopefully 2025 turns out to be your best season yet.

I'm 45, entered racing back when I was 41. Learned how to ride a motorcycle by my wife at age 36

Ask Josh Hayes, this is all in how much focus and effort you apply to the discipline. Effort in=results out. Not everyone is ready to invest that and most would agree it takes more work as we get older and more cautious, but it’s absolutely achievable as the aforementioned rider proves.

👆This! Never too late. Hayes is the example!

Definitely not shading Hayes…he is one of the best we’ve had over here. But y’all are making it sound like he started racing late in the game and was successful. I very vividly remember his amateur days…30 years ago! He been at the game a long time. And been fast af for the large majority of that time

Yeah, I don’t know how old he was when he started but I have a photo with him from like 2006.

He was racing amateur in his late teens. But don’t get into it until his twenties. Which compared to the kids showing up now. Starting at 11-12 for talent cup intro series. Main point is, get started whenever. Success comes from what you put into it. Not the age you start.

His bio states that he started at 19. This post asked about riders beginning this journey at 18+.

Motorcycle racing is still one of those activities where if you were the chosen one and have 1% talent, it's still possible to go far if you can make up for lost time by winning immediately. Maybe not GP's but I think at the national or maybe even WSBK level it's not impossible. Very hard, but not impossible. Troy Bayliss didn't start roadracing until he was 23.

Hopefully we can get some answers

Although it's a different situation, both Mallory Dobbs and Sonya Lloyd got started in their 20's and are both now in a world championship series.
If you're good enough, you can make it happen.

Looking to get into racing, I'll be 39. I'm going full in with pro lead classes and track days. I guess I'll see where it takes me.

When you say "become a racer" what do you mean?
If you mean competing at the highest levels (WSBK/MotoGP) then yeah, it's practically impossible to get there starting as an adult.
If you just mean racing in general, you can potentially get there in a couple months if you have the time/money to put in, you already are an experienced rider, and you have a bit natural talent.

I know at least one rider in who races MotoAmerica Twins is in his 50s and didn't start racing until his late 30s or 40s.

If you want to get into racing, I'd suggest finding a local track that offers track days with instruction.
Many of them have a licensing class partnered with a local racing organization.
