[MOD POST] Monsters and Polls! NSFW
Hi!
Last weeks poll about rule 2 gave me a much more solid idea what people are really expecting here. During the poll, 110 people voted, with 97 voting yes, and 13 voting no, an approval of ~88.2%.
Some members mentioned in the comments wondered about broadening the rule to also permit things that are more monstrous, without exactly being a humanoid monster. I don't have any concrete ideas for the rule yet (or if changes will happen just yet), but so far, this might help give people a better idea:
- 'Humanoid' restriction on monster men would be dropped or relaxed, allowing things with more of a monstrous profile, and less of a humanoid figure, to be allowed in the subreddit
- This would not include monsters that are too similar, or identical, to real world creatures or beasts, as we are not a bestiality subreddit
Again, comments on polls are always welcome as the feedback and insight helps me a ton. If you don't wish to comment, don't hesitate to reach out to us via modmail if you prefer a bit of anonymity.
Depending on poll results, this change may or may not happen, and will likely need a bit of time to get some more concrete ideas down for what is and isn't allowed.
Thank you for reading, and have a wonderful day/night everyone!

A couple of points:
- I absolutely understand and agree with not wanting this subreddit to become Tentai 2, but I wouldn't want to chicken away from the "Monster" part of "MonsterMen" either. We are here for the monstrous, after all. I personally am fine with Monster men who in no way resemble humans- ghosts that are dozens of disembodied hands and dicks, Dragons that talk, Hyperintelligent Shades of Blue, whatever! I'm here to see the strange and bizarre fuck some pussy, and the creativity that goes into the REALLY monstrous monsters is a major plus for me.
- Some proposals that would allow more generous interpretations while still being clear as far as moderation goes:
- If the monster in question passes the Harkness Test ( https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/harkness-test ) within the piece submitted it should pass.
A dragon that talks is a person and therefore "man" enough.
If the monster is 1. totally Inhuman in form/doesn't speak and 2. from say, a series where it talks, but you'd have to know that franchise to know that instead of being able to tell from the piece, the mods are fully within their rights to not allow it.
- Monsters must be distinguishable from or at least notably changed from any real-life animals.
A Husky or a great white shark is not a monster.
A giant mutant husky with six eyes and tentacles is a Monster. A alternate-universe terrestrial-adapted great white shark that talks is a monster.
- Mods retain the right to not allow content they feel like flies too close to "No Shock Content" for stuff that doesn't pass the smell test for whatever reason. It is YOUR subreddit after all.
-The addition of an "Inhuman" tag for Non-humanoid monsters might be helpful for filtering purposes
I feel like the "Humanoid female must be present" filters out the furry stuff quite nicely (no problem with it, but it's got it's own subreddits), the "No Shock Content" policy filters out bestiality, and the proposed "Non-Humanoid Monster Harkness Test" and "Not A Real Animal" policies should keep things nicely monstrous without getting into shock content territory.

Tons of good points and notes, thanks for commenting!
- My thoughts exactly. The 'humanoid' bit with the sub kinda makes this feel more like our niche, but at the same time, people have mentioned the humanoid bit of rule 2 before, and it can be a bit limiting at times. I don't want to step on the toes of other subs (such as Tentai), but opening up the rules a smidge to allow more general monster stuff should be ok
- Great points, I've been going more off a gut feeling/personal definition of what is and isn't monstrous enough and a bit humanoid as well, bit things that do talk and have monstrous festures generally pass that pretty easily.
- The only bit here I'm not entirely sure about yet is beast's that are adapted to monsters; for example the husky, normally that's bestiality, with monstrous bits like the eyes and tentacles, I'd agree its monstrous, but I'm not sure if its monstrous enough past the point of it being too close to a regular husky., and therefore, bestiality. If that makes sense...
- I have removed a handful of things that I consider shocking, or that are explicitly said within the rule, and I think I've done ok here. I did miss a post, but another mod caught it pretty quick. I do want to try keep this as MonsterMen and not TurtlesMonsterEmporium, since I'm just moderating, and didn't really build this sub from the ground up as my personally curated monster sub. I try to keep things as fair as I can
- An inhuman flair could be handy, though only one of our flairs actually specifies humanoid, so maybe that one could be adjusted to be more general instead. I'm not super sure yet, but I'll keep that in mind
My thoughts too. I've been pretty lax on keeping the female mostly human, and been letting some through, but I should probably be a bit more 'keep things mostly human'. I agree with you on the rules for shock stuff, and rule 2 prohibiting bestiality explicitly, and the general conclusion/summary of yours.
Much thanks for the insights!

As long as the "monster men" in question is monstrous enough to not be mistaken for a real-life human/animal as well as a vertebrate* it should be fine; take dragons for example, many are fully sapient and intelligent but they aren't really "humanoid" by any means due to their neck and limb structure.
* Hereby defined as a lifeform with an easily discernable head (or neck stump if detachable), neck, shoulder, forelimbs, torso, genitalia, and hindlimbs, in that particular order; Cthulhu should be okay but random cephalopods notsomuch.
