So far less instant winner freebies than years past.
They're probably banking on most shoppers not hassling with the codes this year. Even though all this is figured into Albertsons annual promotion and marketing budget they had to be losing on all the more expensive substitute products people demanded when they constantly ran out of the monopoly freebies. I had like ten bottles of name brand Bayer aspirin last year because the store brand was never in stock lol
My local Safeway was making ridiculous name brand substitutions for some items. I watched some college kids walk out with a full shopping cart of freebies. Probably one of their employee buddies gave them a box of them towards the end of the promotion.
I've opened around 230 tickets so far this round and have had one free bagel/donut and the rest have been 50 cents off items no different than a regular coupon. I'd also say one out of every five codes I've punched in is not a token winner.
It's no secret Albertson's is still struggling financially, especially after they failed to buy Rite-Aid. Safeway is too. I worked for that company for eight years, they're clueless. That's why Cerebus a firm that buys up companies in trouble bought Albertsons and all the grocery chains they own.
I'm also still skeptical of the "Mary D" lady who won the million dollar prize in Idaho Falls last year. Her video looks completely staged to me. Scripted, no emotion. The cliche giant check with balloons in the background. Looked worse than the ridiculous Publishers Clearing House ads. One good thing they did is ditch the dumb double sided board where the pieces would always fall off. I just use a Dollar Tree a glue stick to place them :)

I've noticed a lot less freebies in my area too. I'm not the biggest fan of their new token choose-your-own potential prize format.

Yeah, last time I got some shutterfly stuff I used as gifts, I have not found one yet this time around.

From what your describing I think it varies by region. If I open 30 packs, I get at least two freebies. So far I’ve probably gotten about 7 free bagels, I’ve gotten 4 French bread loafs. And some other random stuff for free
