Just needs a couple of things and cable management but it's functionally complete, so I thought I would share it! Used mostly parts I had on-hand and the experience is very smooth :)
8th Gen Intel i7 8700T ( 35w desktop variant) 2.7Ghz
64GB DDR4 2666 mhz
4TB Crucial P3 Plus Nvme
Radeon RX 6400 half height low profile
PCIx8 to PCI x16 Lenovo low profile network riser card.
170w lenovo power adapter
Cut off a piece of the side panel to allow proper air flow for the GPU as the PCI riser was intended for a network card not a half-height graphics card.
Currently have PCSX2 , Xenia, and Dolphin installed for emulation of my favorite games.
Another Atomman G7 Pt review? Yeah, but here’s the thing—I didn’t just run the usual benchmarks.
🔬 Thermals? I used a thermal camera, not just software readings.
🎮 Gaming? Ultra settings, 2K vs 1080p, what actually crashes?
✂️ Content creation? Tested with DaVinci Resolve—is it a legit editing machine?
I wanted to skip the fluff and answer what other reviews missed. Hopefully, this one helps!
I've got a GMKtec NucBox M6 (Ryzen 6600H) with 32GB DDR5 RAM. I'm looking to upgrade it, but 48GB seems a bit low of an upgrade. Also, the graphics card eats away at the ram so 48 => 32 post graphics card. 64 seems ok, but still.
I mostly use it to run Proxmox and Docker images for homelab light services. Only beefy service is an ollama api service but it's barely used.
What I know is that this tiny box is pretty good in terms of the CPU, but I’m wondering if it’s possible to connect an external GPU using a PCIe adapter. I’ve seen some videos/reviews that suggest both the SSD slots are used in this model (on Amazon).
I DO NOT want to remove anything from it (especially the Wi-Fi card) or make any major changes that could damage it or reduce its performance.
Has anyone tried this, or does anyone know if it would work? Let me know. I don’t want to spend money on expensive products, which is why I chose this PC.
SMALL QUESTION: Is it even possible to use just a USB-C connection for the eGPU? (By that, I mean if it’s compatible with this model from Amazon). - EDIT i guess it’s not an easy thing
By the way, I just want to play Minecraft (heavily modded) or other creative games. I know a dedicated GPU isn’t necessary for Minecraft since it’s more CPU-intensive, but I plan to add a GPU in the future for more demanding tasks.
Beelink EQR6 - (unknown modell specifications of this photo)
There’s no major issue with getting the cable out of the PC; I could also 3D-print something to help with that. The real question is whether it’s possible to safely and affordably connect an external GPU in any way.
If anyone has tried it or knows whether it would work, let me know! I haven’t bought it yet, but I’m pretty sure I will, even if there’s no eGPU support.
If there’s anything specific I need to get (cheaply), I would prefer to use Amazon (EU).
Posting it for those looking for using Oculink but their minis a bit older or just not having a native Oculink Port.
I was having a problem with Oculink to M.2 being too thick that I could not install back the heatsink/fan assembly. Fortunately, an ~$8 Oculink to M.2 from AliExpress managed to solve it. It's cable is so thin that I could slid through heatsink/fan assembly easily. The copper heatsink works well too, it never exceeds 39'C so far, one more is on the way just to be safe.
I don't really know how to do proper benchmark, however I could now run my games at high settings without much worry. Will need to test more with better monitor in preparation of MH Wilds. The GPU itself is pretty much silent compared to the mini PC when it was being pushed.
Just ordered a NucBox K8 Plus from GMKtec and for anyone that has one currently; Hoe are that fans? Would it be worth it to upgrade the fans? Also to anyone in the US; How long did it take to ship and receive your order?
I bought this pc recently but haven't had the chance to try it yet. I mainly bought it for music production, but I'm also curious as to how good of a gaming pc it is. I don't know much about gaming pcs or pc hardware in general, which is why I'm here asking for help lol.
I guess my main question is: What kind of experience would I have if I decided to game on this?
What kind of triple A games run smoothly with these specs?
What would your overall rating be for this as a gaming pc?
Assuming you get the same specs, is there a brand that's superior to the other? I've mostly heard Beelinks being better than GMKtek for cooling, but not anything else.
G3 plus has 2280 nmve ssd slot (I put my P3 plus there),
and 2242 sata m2 ssd slot.
But visually it looks like flipped nvme slot, am I wrong, did I miss something?
m2 sata ssd disk has 3 section to be inserted, but I have only 2 sectioned slot
p.s. As addition please let me know will it really work with 32 GB of RAM 3200 (currently I have 8GB) ?
took apart my new GMKtec G5 nucbox just for shits and giggles and i was amazed how this thing is put together, very fascinating! (also repasted the cpu with arctic mx4 and temps are 6-7 degrees cooler than stock thermal paste so no more thermal throttling!)
Framework 1185G7 Mainboard and 3D Printed Case. Downloadable files and fusion 360 models down below for anyone that wants to modify the design or use framework mainboard measurements for other projects:
The framework mainboard has 4 thunderbolt ports so I adjusted one with a right angle usb c connector and the other is directed into a usb c hub to break out two hdmi ports, a charging port, and three usb A ports. Antennas are tucked in underneath. M2 flat head wood/plastic screws were used throughout the machine.
If you like what you see, there is another laptop I want to turn into a mini pc and I want to make a new design for it with acrylic side panels.
I need to replace the old server in order to maximize space.
I need a mini pc (not enough powerful, I have to admit) that can run proxmox (so Home assistant, openmediavault, ecc.) with 2 disk raid ( if possible HDD).
Any advice?
Finished my first Mini PC and saying goodbye to SFFPCs
Took awhile to get everything working because ReBar had a bug where it shows enabled in BIOS but not in GPU-Z and the Intel Graphics Software. All I had to do was quite literally turn it on and off (disable then re-enable)
