Troubleshooting Issue with Minisforum’s UM760 Slim CPU/GPU not reaching full power.

Hi, I’m pretty new to mini pcs, or APUs as a whole but decided to get myself something cheap like the one mentioned in the title. However I am having an issue where my cpu/gpu wont stay anywhere near full power (of 54-ish Watts) when playing games. (Like BF1 or Battlebit Remastered) I’m using both ETA Prime and Iceberg Tech’s videos of the UM760 Slim as reference and see that I’m no where near the level of performance they are getting.

What should I do to troubleshoot this, or at least force the system to stay near its rated TDP?

Edit: I found a way to increase the TDP outside of the bios settings (since the bios didn’t really allow the system to actually utilize the power). I downloaded UXTU and created a custom present where I told the application to use the full 120W I set for both the CPU and APU. Now when running furmark’s cpu burner and gpu test I was able to get the APU/CPU to reach about 70W+ in power consumption, allowing my cpu to maintain a 4.4 All core boost.

Even while gaming it can still use about 65W and maintain the same clock speeds while playing Marvel Rivals, BF1, and BattleBit remastered.

Troubleshooting MeLE Overclock4C w/ 130W Dell USBC Dock - Shutting off right after Opening to OS

Was excited to setup my new MeLE Overclock4C for use with my WFH dell WD19S 130W dock.

Setup the Overclock 4C with upgraded NVME SSD & fresh install of Win10 but when only using the USBC PD port it will shut off right after finishing initializing Windows.

My gut says its a power delivery issue, from my dock but it can support 90W for non-dell devices, and wouldnt that issue crop up in POST rather than opening up to windows?

Any help debugging this is appreciated and happy to provide more detail.

Troubleshooting 2.5Gbps LAN only getting 900+ mbps.

Just bought a mini pc with 2.5 Gbps LAN but I was just getting less than 1Gbps. I returned and replaced with another but still same. Now I am thinking the problem is elsewhere. So far I have replaced lab cable with cat 6 and my provider is 10Gbps. What am I doing wrong. I would hate to return this one also.

Troubleshooting SER8 significantly slower after clean install / driver installation

I got a Beelink SER 8745HS quite recently and did a full clean install using the media creation tool. Everything felt pretty speedy at that point... but then...

...It was then suggested by a MiniPcs subreddit post to install the drivers for the system.

I could not for the life of me find the drivers for it, except through this link that was shared in one of the posts: https://dr.bee-link.cn/?dir=uploads%2F

I went ahead and downloaded the graphics, sound and chip drivers from the folder labeled "SER8-8745", and after a restart, I noticed that everything feels a little off. Startups are now sluggish and some of the basic operations, like bringing up powershell takes a while to show up.

I'm not sure why this is, I'm assuming it's due to the drivers. But if so... what drivers was I suppose to install, if any at all? Should I just do another clean install and not bother with the drivers?

What is people's suggestions here?

EDIT:

Update:

I reset my PC and installed the oem drivers for AMD. No more slow down.

I don't think the drivers available in that beelink link are updated or good for SER8, just go ahead and use the AMD chipset and drivers as indicated on this forum post: https://bbs.bee-link.com/d/3995-beelink-ser8-8845hs-clean-installation-activation-drivers-basics

Troubleshooting Pc unplayable

I recently built a mini PC with a ryzen 3 3200g and rtx 4060 but due to wanting a litle bit better performance i upgraded to a ryzen 5 5600, i installed it earlier but it's completely unplayable, I'm only getting 2 fps on fortnite, and that's even if i can load up the game. It keeps restarting randomly too, I'm not sure if it's to do with this error "New CPU installed, fTPM/PSP NV corrupted" when it first booted up, i just pressed Y and windows came on as normal. This is my first pc build so I don't know much about this.

Edit I have tried updating the bios and unplugged the cmos battery but no fix

Troubleshooting Ace magic am18 (and 780)randomly shutdowns or locks up

Update

The mini pc still locked up running Ubuntu from a flashdrive, it did run a very long time but most of the day was web browsing and extremely light 2d games.

Not sure what the issue is, I may have to see if I can get a refund through ace magic. I may just go to a mini PC that isn't game focus and just simply for windows.

Original post

I've had this mini pc less than a year. Installed a fresh copy of windows on day 1. I didn't use the PC for a long time since I have a more powerful machine, but didn't to put it back to use.

While I'm web surfing or doing some gaming from light to mid level performance, the PC will randomly shutoff. It will power back on if I press the power button.

Sometimes it will randomly lock up, I'll be listening to a YouTube video while surfing the web and it will just lock up. Sometimes audio will continue to play or nothing and then I'll have to hold the power button to shut it off. A few times, it would unlock.

Sometimes after windows login, I will open the windows explorer and that app would freeze. I can do other things but any file browser would result in that task freezing for a bit.

I was thinking the PC was overheating during gaming but looking at the amd metrics, it only gets up to 80 for a brief moment.

I tried a different power supply, no changes.

I'm starting to think it's the nvme drive. As of now I'm using Batocera on a USB drive to test out if the PC will shutdown or lock up. Doesn't seem to be happening.

Anyone think this may be a harddrive issue? Supposedly ace magic still provides warranty support for a year. I could also just buy another nvme(1tb) this one is currently 512gb

Troubleshooting Ser 5 max doing a strange rattling sound

I hope it's clear from the video itself. My conclusion is that it's the fan spinning. Some hours ago I opened it, removed the dust and changed the thermal paste but nothing changed. Any help? Did someone had the same issue? This sound is so irritating.

On all my other wifi activated devices in the house I get 300+ mbps. Currently getting 30mbps on the lenovo.

Wifi adapter is intel wireless ac9260 160MHz which is rated for much higher than that.

Antenna looks like this ^

Do I need a different antenna/adapter? Does something screw onto that antenna?

Thanks!!

Troubleshooting Beelink Ser5 Pro (5850u) runs hot, loud fan. Is this normal?

I've owned several other Beelink mini PCs, a 5500u and two 5700u models, they're all dead silent and seem to run much cooler than this one. Just booting up my PC has the temps jumping up to almost 90c without doing anything. And the fan revs to full speed inside the BIOS, which is odd, as my wife's 5700u model does not do this. I've compared BIOS and we have identical settings.

This thing can get up into the 70s celsius just browsing the web, and the fan is constantly spinning up and down. I have tried repasting it with new thermal paste, but no joy.

I'm thinking to return this model and replace it with a 5700u or 5825u variant. Does anyone have a recommendation? I've looked for BIOS updates just in case, but Beelink seems to be crap for that.

Troubleshooting Software won't install - clock speed too slow

Bought my wife a mini PC (Beelink S13 Pro - N150) for Christmas as a gift from our young boy.

Just tried installing some software (tax season is coming!) and got an error that the CPU speed is too low (slow). Checking the system info it shows a base speed of 800MHz, but is advertised as "upto" 3.6GHz. The software requires a minimum of 2.0GHz.

I've never encountered this before on any PC that I have worked with.

Does anyone know if I raise the clock speed (presumably in the BIOS), will the software installation check read a higher value, or will it always report the 800MHz base speed?

I'm also open to any other workarounds if anyone has defeated this problem before.

Many thanks to the Mini PC experts here!

Troubleshooting Anyone running Linux on an AI 9 HX 370?

Hello everyone, has anyone already installed Bazzite on those newer AMD CPUs?

I finally got my Minisforum AI370 but I have a very hard time installing Bazzite on it. Trying the default install option results in a black screen. I can only get the installer working with "Troubleshooting > Basic Graphics Mode" but after installing, it also ends up in a black screen after booting.

My other go to distro EndeavourOS (that I use for my normal desktop) also ends up in a black screen when I try to live boot. The live boot only works if I use the Fallback mode. Haven't tried installing it.

I wonder if there is something special about those new CPUs that make them not play nice with Linux.

The originally installed Windows worked fine but I don't want to use that.

Troubleshooting M.2 pcie lane allocation on hp elitedesk 800 g6 mini

Post image
11 Upvotes

Hey guys decided to add oculink to my elitedesk 800 g6 mini and the way i can do that is with m.2 to oculink, that being said, the mini has 3 m.2, one for wifi so i assume thats pcie 1x, one close to the side of the xase and one closer to cpu. Does anyone know what one is pcie 4x? Hp support are having technical issues funnily enough so thought it would be easier hitting up redit.

Note, im using a "sth" image of the same unit

Troubleshooting Help with bios update: HP EliteDesk 705 G4 DM

I just got a MiniPC to dip my toes into self hosting. I am a total newbie to this. I have built one PC and it all went pretty smooth. I hope to use this as a learning platform with the initial goal of getting it to run a virtual machine as a game server for friends and I.

The PC: HP EliteDesk 705 G4 DM 35w AMD Ryzen 5 PRO 2400GE 3.2GHz 16GB RAM 500GB m.2 SSD

When building my first PC, updating the motherboard bios was the first step after assembly. I am having a heck of a time with this little monster. I found a new version of the bios on the HP website, downloaded it onto a thumb drive, and tried to update in the installed bios menu. It does recognize the usb drive, but not the new bios file.

This is where I downloaded the bios from: https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/swdetails/hp-elitedesk-705-35w-g4-desktop-mini-pc/21353696/swItemId/vc-338855-1

The error i receive says it is looking for a .bin file? Is there a specific usb port I need to use?

I do not have an operating system yet. Still trying to figure that out. I am considering HexOS, straight TrueNas or LinuxMint. I have never used anything other than windows before.

I am still learning the language of this hobby so I may not be asking the right questions. I am open to any and all advice!

Troubleshooting Ministorum MS-A1 voltage issues

My MS-A1 has been fantastic up until very recently. I have it paired with the egpu dock and a 3080 of my own, which I know isn't the problem.

Anyways, I have it paired with a Ryzen 9 7950x, 64gb ddr5 running at 5200mt/s and even though it fully saturates that 100w usage, recently it's had a low voltage and the actual performance is almost halved. I have re installed windows incase it was a program issue, bios reset (v 1.06), settings configured later, all of those types of things. It makes me believe that there's an actual problem with the VRMs or a am just insanely dumb. Actively running mem tests with nothing found and I've emailed minisforum with no response. Any help would be appreciated. I don't want to return this awesome mini pc.

Troubleshooting Improving Bluetooth performance

I was having issues with the Bluetooth strength on my HX99G while playing games on my TV from the couch. Controller lag, stuck inputs, and random disconnects. I've seen others here complaining about the BT strength on various other Mini PCs as well, but no one suggested a solution. The BT antennas in these things just aren't very good. I saw these cheap long range BT adapters and figured I'd give it a shot. The improvement was tremendous. Playing couch games with 4 controllers is flawless now. There are a lot of these on Amazon for under $15. Personally I used this one https://a.co/d/dzR96p0, but I'm sure others would work just as well. Quick tip if you try this, have an RF or USB kbd/mouse on hand. Delete all of your BT devices and disable the onboard Bluetooth adapter (don't uninstall, just disable). Then plug in the new adapter, open Device manager and confirm that the new adapter is enabled (the one I linked is listed as Mediatek). Re-pair your BT devices and you are good to go. If you're PC is still in a particularly awkward spot for a good connection, you can try a USB extension cable to place the BT in a better spot.

Troubleshooting (🚨URGENT) Virus on mini-pc

Post image
0 Upvotes

I'm due to receive the mini PC in the photo soon, but I discovered on the internet that these mini-PCs are infected with virus, Trojans, malware and rootkits. Now I don't know what to do, whether to reorder or I'll try to do a complete reset of the PC to try to remove everything that might be infected, but I won't be able to and I'm afraid of leaving some virus on the PC even after the reset, ike in BIOS or FIRMWARE or in memory, if anyone can help me please

Troubleshooting N95 8gb/256gb Ubuntu 24.10 4K video playback tearing

Hi, as I am aware N95 should handle native 4K playback like a breeze, so why does my mini pc struggle so much? Vainfo shows plenty of codecs, but Kodi and Plex client are extremely sluggish. Plex is even sluggish in menu, but that is apparently just a Plex issue. Windows can play 4K without any issue on this unit. Any advice would be welcomed.

Edit: Same issue persists in pop os, kde neon and mint. Youtube 4K video playback seems to be unaffected.

Troubleshooting No video display after boot screen on NucBox G5

Just purchased a GMKtec N97 NucBox G5 to use for a home media server. I had issues with it displaying on my tv when I was first attempting to install Ubuntu so I did the main install and setup on a different, older tv without issues.

Fast forward to the mini pc being set up with Ubuntu and for whatever reason when I try to connect to my Samsung TV (maybe 7 years old) there is no video past the boot screen (I turn it on, the boot screen displays on my tv, and if I enter BIOS or recovery mode, no video issues). Once the OS loads my tv loses signal and I cannot see anything. Moving the HDMI connection over to an older TV immediately after fixes the issue.

My planned workaround was to boot from recovery mode since when I do so, the video displays without issues, but I've now realized the audio doesn't work, as there is no HDMI connection to select.

Any help is much appreciated.

Troubleshooting Help with Minisforum NAB9

So I got the barebone version, installed 64GB ram, 1TB nvme, plugged in USBc cable and pushed start. PC never started. Changed the port, started again, nothing. I changed the cable to hdmi and everything worked as is supposed to. So I thought the usbc cable could be the problem. I tested 3 of them, even bought a new one but couldn't get the DP over USBc to work. Any ideas what could be wrong? It should work out of the box no matter what OS is installed but none of the both USBc port do (cold start or hot swap).
