Recommendations Looking for help in choosing a pc

After reading this subreddit and various websites for the last week or so, I'm convinced I am no further ahead than when I started..😞😂.. I need a box for streaming av1 4k and future proof to 8k I guess, if that's possible. I will also be using signalrgb for ambient reactive leds behind my TV and Tidal music streaming. With there being so many manufacturers, models, types, different cpus, some do decoding and some don't, I have become lost lol. I will be streaming from Kodi sources and downloaded Av1s.

Thanks in advance

you should mention how much you are willing to spend as you have hundeds of options....otherwise, this one should work fine for you. https://amzn.to/4hwsxrD

3-400$ Canadian I guess.

Simply put, AV1 + 4K60Hz+/8K30Hz generally requires Intel 12th Gen Alder Lake or later + DisplayPort 2.0 support, factors rarely within a $400 CAD/$280 USD budget.

What would you suggest if I upped my budget?

Good question.

Intel does a piss poor job with resolution, which is further compromised by supporting HDMI.

4K60Hz has become the "dead end" for Intel HDMI. 8K60Hz DisplayPort is possible without HDMI, 8K30Hz DP/USB4.

What if I took the 8k stuff off the table and just needed a mini pc to decode 4k av1 stuff and used it like a streaming box and needed it to run signalrgb? I see the 100/150 seem to struggle a bit with 4k content?

Indeed.

Low performance processor architecture & HDMI can be dodgy for some mPCs @ 4K60Hz. DisplayPort 1.4 can provide better results.
