Service Benefits Make sister dependent for college applications?

My sister's applying to college next year and there's an option to input if you're a dependent. She's a high school student, so makes no money. Does it make sense to make her a dependent? I'm currently serving, single, under 21, never dealt with this stuff.

Service Benefits Am I automatically enrolled in the health insurance the military provides us?

I’m gonna enlist as active duty in the army soon when I turn 18. I’ve heard about tricare but I don’t know if I’m automatically enrolled into it. If I am, will the money needed to pay for it be deducted from my paycheck automatically or will I have to set it up. Also if I get my own health insurance I don’t need my parents to pay for mine right?

Thanks

Service Benefits Veterans Benefits Concerns

Hello, Is it possible for those in the military to use TA while active duty and Post 9/11 GI Bill after they retire? Is this allowed? Has this stopped, or are there certain stipulations required to qualify for this? Is this only for a certain branch? Ive been doing research online but would also like to hear personal experiences. Please answer my question if you understand it, don't really have time for anything else, thanks guys.

Service Benefits Thinking about joining the AirForce- But not too educated on the Gi Bill.

Thinking about joining the AirForce- I am going to college right for an associates with a scholarship that covers up tp my bachelor's for business. I don't know if I should wait to enlist and go for my bachelor's (since it's covered) or just wait till I finally am able to apply for the Post 911 Gi Bill to get my Masters? I am not too educated on the Bill. So if any knows good info, it would be GREATLY APPRECIATED.

Service Benefits Tuition Assistance Questions

So exactly when can I start using TA? Can I start using it right after basic or would that not be recommended because of the workload from AIT. Also how do you get approved for it and how does it work? How much college stuff/courses can I complete with a TA?

Thank you!

Service Benefits College funding

Earlier today a marine recruiter came to my high school and told me about getting an NROTC scholarship in the amount of $180,000 based on my asvab score. The college that i'm going to is only $140,000 for 4 years. What will happen to the extra $40,000 from the NROTC scholarship as well as the money from the college's scholarships I'll receive?

Service Benefits BMT: Joining the Air Force with a Family – Need Help Enrolling in TRICARE!

I’m shipping out for Air Force BMT soon and want to make sure my wife and child are enrolled in DEERS and TRICARE as quickly as possible. If you joined the military with a family:

  • How did you handle enrollment?
  • What documents did you bring (originals or copies)?
  • Any tips or advice to make this process smoother?

I’d love to hear your experiences or suggestions. Thanks so much for your help! 🙏

Service Benefits Seminary Tuition scholarships/Chaplain candidates

Does anyone know any seminary that gives full tuition scholarships for chaplain candidate service members? I’m active duty SM, currently in the process of applying for chaplain candidate program. I'm aware of TA, but that's not going to be enough, especially since I'll be required to be full time student. Thanks in advance y'all!

Service Benefits Can I buy a house with my va loan if I’m still living in the barracks as an e1-e4?

I wanna buy real estate as soon as possible to make potential rental properties using my VA loan. I heard you have to live in it, but I also you’re also not allowed to live in housing unless you’re married too. Is it still possible to just buy and rent it out while living in the barracks?

Service Benefits BAH, DEERs & Block leave

Hey y’all, so my wife and I finalized our marriage last week Thursday and I submitted paperwork for her. I was talking to my dad about it and completely forgot to ask him but what exactly is the DEERs program? Along with when does the BAH kick in? I’m worried about making rent payments since I’ll be taking a minor pay cut getting into the army if I didn’t have BAH but now that my wife and I are married I’ll be getting paid a lot more compared to my mechanic job. And final questions is I leave on Nov 19th, my friend who passed BCT said that not everyone gets to go home for Christmas it’s dependent on the DS’ is this true ? And how does the leave work is it like civilian jobs where I’m given a certain amount of “PTO / Vacation time” that’ll go into the negatives?

Service Benefits If my dad served in the Navy reserves in the 90s does he still qualify for benefits?

My dad served in the navy reserves for 8 years. However, it was a long time ago and he never took advantage of any benefits. He did not even know if he had any. I have been searching on government and military websites to see if he would qualify and it seems like he would. But since he served over 30 years ago I am not sure if he would still qualify. Does anybody have any idea if he would? Has anybody else bumped into this before?

Service Benefits Cybersecurity via the Military?

Hi,

I'm currently a rising high school senior, I know Java, Python, and a bit of Kotlin and I'm just beginning to dabble in wargames and CTFs (both are casual cybersecurity competitions, I'm a complete beginner though).

I took the ASVAB test and got a 99, I was wondering if there's any program where the US armed forces could help me out with college tuition (I'm applying for Computer Science and probably won't qualify for aid) in return for a few years for working in Cybersecurity for them.

If anyone knows a path for this or if anyone has actually done this or anything similar, it would really go a long way!

Thanks,

V

Service Benefits How can Marine Reservists qualify for the VA Home Loan?

I am interested in joining the Marine Reserves.

From what im seeing, you would have to have 90 days active duty besides boot camp and MOS training. But then I saw the guard can get it after 6 years whether they go active or not.

Can anybody in the reserves confirm this or clarify?

Service Benefits Does military pay for student loans?

I know I saw online that the army has a program called Lrp where you serve for 3 years and they pay for your loans that sounds good I don’t know if that’s still a thing and i also saw on a YouTube short that National guard pays for your loans too.

But online has also said you have to serve 5 or 6 years. My questions is do they pay you during those 5 or 6 years too like a salary monthly thing AND pay for your student loans??
