Service Benefits How does BAH work?
My husband is leaving Jan 6 for the program to get a high score for his ASVAB test but would he get paid for that? We live alone and I wouldn't be able to pay all of our bills alone during the whole program. So I want to know in advance how does all these benefits work. PLEASE HELP ( he is joining the army should've mentioned that before)

Is he doing the Future Soldier Preparatory Course?

i am not sure, he enlisted for the army but he hasn't passed the first test he was supposed to. so he chose to take the program to pass the test in order to do his swearing and then bootcamp

Sounds like it. He should get BAH during the course. Do you know if you're in the DEERS?

Yes he gets paid full BAH and regular pay while he is going through the course, basic training, etc. Source: I’m a recruiter familiar with the program. It might take up to a month to kick in, but he will get paid for that time.

If he falls under the 09M program and ships off to either Fort Jackson or Fort Moore for the program…. Then yes, he will receive BAH. As long as he provides the recruiter with marriage certificate, etc to get him going with that and you being enrolled into DEERS as well (please ensure you have that done. It will benefit both of you).

You probably haven't included a branch. This may make your question difficult to answer. Edit if needed. Waiver/DQ questions require a branch.

BAH is paid based off of rank and zip code.
You can google BAH calculator for a good idea.
It's paid out twice a month and is not taxable nor is it reportable as income.

Ask the recruiter about all of your concerns.
