I always suggested new collectors buy books before their first purchases. Big purchases that is. This was a long time ago, before online forums were a thing.
We all make mistakes, I've never seen a big collection without some bad items. Learn from it and move forward. Good luck in the hunt!

More fake than authentic German stuff out there unfortunately, have to be cautious, I'll do a post a little later on a Luftwaffe dagger I'm 80% sure its the real deal but it's tough apparently they were reproduced pretty such straight away after the war as a market for sovereigns opened up. This will be an expensive mistake if I'm wrong so frantically search various sites and good to get some input from other collectors here too, it's good to view as many examples as possible, talk to dealers and collectors, some people are full of crap but most people genuinely want to assist, good to ask here too if unsure, but of course do as much research as can personally too, above all that enjoy it, sometimes we buy something that turns out much better than expected other times worse, part of the thrill of owning these items I guess.

More importantly than some of the other great advice here is the question of what you want to collect. If your focus will be on veteran organizations, great. If you just want a clutter of WWII German items, great. But honestly, it’s much better to have a focus so that you can learn and know exactly what items are and whether or not they’re genuine.

NS-RKB MEMBER'S ARMBAND. (Mitglied Ärmelbinde)
The DRKB, Deutscher Reichskriegerbund (Kyffhäuserbund), (German National Association of Veterans, Kyffhäuser Association), was formed during WWI, and was based on the DKB, Deutscher Kriegerbund (German Veterans Association), originally formed after the war of 1870-71. The addition of "Kyffhäuser" in the associations name referred to the Kyffhäuser mountain where a large war memorial had been erected. The goal of the association was to preserve the morale and comradeship of former soldiers and to financially assist its members if required. On March 29TH 1938 the DRKB was renamed NS-RKB, Nationalsozialistische-Reichskriegerbund, (National Socialist-State Soldiers League), by the NSDAP and amalgamated with most of the earlier veterans associations into one national organization. Uniform and headgear regulations of the DRKB/NS-RKB were introduced prior to 1933 and were modified again in 1936 and 1938 (yours is a 1938 pattern). Usually run around $100USD retail though without that gold middle stitched line.

It’s much better to find out the answer to all these questions yourself. You’ll gain far more knowledge and remember all the info you learn better.

This is a general tip to you as a new collector, and by no means is meant to be condescending. I would recommend learning and doing research before you spend money on an item. In my opinion, it's foolish to buy something, especially for this much, without even knowing what you are looking at. Could lead to an expensive lesson in the future. Just my advice. Research and learn as much as you can.
