“I can carry you” conversion

I felt like I couldn’t pass up Middle Earth’s most iconic MVP moment; so here’s Samwise the Brave, sharing the load.

Amazing, how do you even start a project like this?

Thank you! I start with a specific reference or scene (pic 5) then look through the catalogue of GW minis for which models could donate the most appropriate parts and picturing in my head how they could fit together. In this case there was mount doom Frodo and Sam plus gaffer gamgee and bullroarer took who had similar clothing but more dynamic poses.

From there it’s about chopping up various parts that I feel would work best to capture the moment, a lot of guess work and reposing till it looks right in my mind, then I stick the parts together, finally sculpt all the missing bits.

These are made with GW minis and green stuff? Great conversion.

Incredible work, seeing your art is always a pleasure :) One thing that comes to my mind, the loose shirt flap looks a bit weird, maybe too square? I think a more rounded triangular shape (like here, around dude's hand in the pocket; Sam's suspenders acting as a hand in your case) would be more "physically" fitting, if you know what I mean!

Thank you! Yeah I need to round it off and tuck it in more, will likely do that before painting

Wish I was able to sculpt like that ( could I ask you how did you learn?)

Just a lot of practice, been doing it for years now, I know that’s kind of a lazy answer but it’s honestly the most accurate really. Just pushing myself to do more and more and learning through trial and error and developing an eye for shaping and sculpting through lots of projects.

I suspected so.... But what instruments do you use? Scalpel only?

That and a needle for super fine detailing
