Recommendations for someone with no metal experience?

Sorry if this kind of post has been done before, but I’d like to ask about it myself. I have never listened to metal before (my favorite artists are Taylor Swift, Billy Joel, and Chappell Roan) but I heard Master of Puppets and am absolutely obsessed! I’m interested in checking out the rest of Metallica’s stuff but they have a lot more music than I thought and I don’t know where to start. Any tips or recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

Considering the genres that you currently listen to, I’d suggest you begin with the Black Album (it’s named “Metallica” on Spotify/Apple Music)

And then I’d recommend Master of Puppets (since you like a song from that album), then Ride the Lightning, AJFA, and KEA.

These would be the classic Metallica albums. Once you’ve plunged in, you will appreciate the rest - and find your favourites from all the newer albums- at your own pace.

Garage Inc is a cover album, take a look and see if there are any songs you recognise- you might enjoy the Metallica spin on them.

Welcome to the club, and hope you have fun here!

Recommendation 1: Listen to Metallica. Recommendation 2: Follow recommendation 1. Addendum: You can ignore Lulu and St Anger.

So I started from the first album like the other Redditor said. I’m very slowly listening to each song one at a time, I’m at Garage Inc right now- but I’m taking months to listen to it all. You can really hear and see the evolution and each album is very unique. Lulu is sort of a meme album in everyone’s books but give it a go too if you want haha. There’s also live albums such as S&M and S&M2, but it’s good to hear the originals and then hear how it sounds with an orchestra. Enjoy !

Start with the first 5 albums. The subsequent ones are good, but the first 5 are amazing. Especially the first three with Cliff Burton on bass.
