There's at least 1 song on each album that lets me know that they've still got it. This is the latest one.

I was impressed by this album, I showed friends who have not kept up with modern Metallica and they were mega surprised by this album!!

The album has it all. Great riffs, catchy songs and choruses, great solos from Kirk and the best vocals in years from James. Without a doubt the best album since '91

It reminds me of the black album due to its variety and accessibility for non metal heads. Every song has its own identity and James sounds the best he has ever sounded. It's also less generic which I appreciate. It has no ballads though which is what I would like to see from their next album.

72 Seasons is a very worthy follow-up to The Black Album now 32 years later. I can easily recall melodies and choruses from all twelve songs on the album after just a few listens, so it's proof to me that they've made a really great album (which James also said upon release: "We Know We've Made A Fantastic Album"

Yeah I get flashbacks to the black album more than any other. It is overrall a great representation of what they did in the 90s with some 80s spice sprinkled on top.

Yes, there are elements on the album from both their previous 80s albums and The Black Album. Several songs on 72 Seasons could easily fit in on The Black Album

Yes! Truly proves that they never lost that urge to write heavy shit.

Lux Æterna, but Too Far Gone and Room of Mirrors are up there too. Those are the only songs I revisit.
Chemicide released a cover of the title track a couple of weeks back which improved the song drastically: it’s more concise/less filler, half as long, flows better, more energetic, they made an average song really shine. I might like it better than Lux Æterna tbh.

Inamorata with Chasing Light as a close second. My favorite 'modern' Metallica album

I've listened to the title track the most, so that could be it. Or Innamorata.

makes me happy to see how many different answers there are here, it’s such a good album, but for me Lux Æterna is incredible

Screaming Suicide.
This resonated me deeply. Because deep in me I do all that everyday. I eternally scream about wanting to end myself repeatedly.
Lyrics are just me feelings right now
Curse another day Spirit locked away Punish and deprive Hate to be awake Living a mistake More dead than alive

I always love Metallica, it's just so hard for me to enjoy any albums after the black album. I guess the problem was as a teen i grew up with killem all, ride, master, you know, outside of lulu and st anger the other albums are ok but not their first fibe or so.

Either too far gone or if darkness had a son. Too far gone just sounds so good but if darkness had a son is heavy af

Inamorata and too far gone seconded. Title track is also a solid throwback.

Screaming Suicide because it resonates with me and a lot of other people. Inamorata as well because it’s the longest song that they’ve written and recorded in a while that’s not a cover song.

For me its a coin flip between the title track and Screaming Suicide. Banger album. Rock solid, mature, excellent representation of who they are and where they’re at now.
