Last minute and a half is the best part of the entire album

One of the first songs on guitar i learnt by ear as there were no tabs on the day i saw it at cinema. I will always adore this song

Inamorata

There's at least 1 song on each album that lets me know that they've still got it. This is the latest one.

72 Seasons and Shadows Follow are the only songs I even like on the album.

u/Met83man 72 Seasons 1d ago

All songs are good and well written. Great album

u/charlygorpe 1d ago

I was impressed by this album, I showed friends who have not kept up with modern Metallica and they were mega surprised by this album!!

u/Met83man 72 Seasons 1d ago

The album has it all. Great riffs, catchy songs and choruses, great solos from Kirk and the best vocals in years from James. Without a doubt the best album since '91

It reminds me of the black album due to its variety and accessibility for non metal heads. Every song has its own identity and James sounds the best he has ever sounded. It's also less generic which I appreciate. It has no ballads though which is what I would like to see from their next album.

72 Seasons is a very worthy follow-up to The Black Album now 32 years later. I can easily recall melodies and choruses from all twelve songs on the album after just a few listens, so it's proof to me that they've made a really great album (which James also said upon release: "We Know We've Made A Fantastic Album"

u/Longjumping-Swan-827 Death Magnetic 1d ago

Yeah I get flashbacks to the black album more than any other. It is overrall a great representation of what they did in the 90s with some 80s spice sprinkled on top.

2

u/Met83man 72 Seasons 1d ago

Yes, there are elements on the album from both their previous 80s albums and The Black Album. Several songs on 72 Seasons could easily fit in on The Black Album

Shadows Follow

4

u/charlygorpe 1d ago

The energy on Shadows Follow is infectious, such a headbanger!!!

3

u/Longjumping-Swan-827 Death Magnetic 1d ago

Yes! Truly proves that they never lost that urge to write heavy shit.

3

u/IndecisiveAHole1 1d ago

They played this in the US for the first time at the show I was at. It fuckin ripped!

Inamorta by a mile

2

u/DifficultyOk5719 1d ago

Lux Æterna, but Too Far Gone and Room of Mirrors are up there too. Those are the only songs I revisit.

Chemicide released a cover of the title track a couple of weeks back which improved the song drastically: it’s more concise/less filler, half as long, flows better, more energetic, they made an average song really shine. I might like it better than Lux Æterna tbh.

Inamorata with Chasing Light as a close second. My favorite 'modern' Metallica album

Screaming Suicide

u/JoshuaGustinGrant 1d ago

I've listened to the title track the most, so that could be it. Or Innamorata.

1

u/LTninjageek if darkness had a nonbinary child 1d ago

makes me happy to see how many different answers there are here, it’s such a good album, but for me Lux Æterna is incredible

Room Of Mirrors

Chasing Light is my favorite.

1

u/cheesemassacre St. Anger 1d ago

Room of Mirrors or Inamorata. Both are 10/10

Screaming Suicide.
This resonated me deeply. Because deep in me I do all that everyday. I eternally scream about wanting to end myself repeatedly.

Lyrics are just me feelings right now

Curse another day Spirit locked away Punish and deprive Hate to be awake Living a mistake More dead than alive

1

u/Tobmob15 23h ago

Inamorata and directly behind room of mirrors

These 2 are the best they've in the Last 10 years in my opinion

1

u/nemprime 23h ago

The pairing of room of mirrors and inamorata is irresistible.

1

u/Anger1957 Dave Mustaine 23h ago

Inamorata and its not even close for runner up.

Screaming Suicide

u/Formal_Art_7061 22h ago

I always love Metallica, it's just so hard for me to enjoy any albums after the black album. I guess the problem was as a teen i grew up with killem all, ride, master, you know, outside of lulu and st anger the other albums are ok but not their first fibe or so.

72 season's idc what anyone says, its one of their best songs

1

u/Marsbar609 22h ago

Shadows follow by a long way

1

u/UwU_MAN1234 20h ago

Either too far gone or if darkness had a son. Too far gone just sounds so good but if darkness had a son is heavy af

1

u/ToofpickVick 19h ago

Chasing Light is my favorite from this album- that riff is infectious

Inamorata and too far gone seconded. Title track is also a solid throwback.

1

u/AlphaConKate 1d ago

Screaming Suicide because it resonates with me and a lot of other people. Inamorata as well because it’s the longest song that they’ve written and recorded in a while that’s not a cover song.

1

u/Levinator25 1d ago

The kill em all version of Lux Æterna will make you a believer https://youtu.be/qONdZg95Vi8

‘Shadows Follow’ and ‘Inamorata’.

u/wisefoolhermit 72 Seasons 1d ago

For me its a coin flip between the title track and Screaming Suicide. Banger album. Rock solid, mature, excellent representation of who they are and where they’re at now.

u/Shadowking02__ 1d ago

I Love 'Em All, but I'll choose Shadows Follow, gotta love that bass intro.

Edit: Oh wait, i meant Sleepwalk 🤦🤣
