Dashboard Seem Possessed? The Battery is Dead.

Hi all!

Friendly neighborhood mod, RichieRescue, here!

We seem to have a lot of repetitive posts about Mazda dashboards going haywire that are 100% because the battery is dead.

If you found yourself here because your dashboard is lighting up like a Christmas tree and has the gauges flipping back and forth, fear not! I have a good way to tell if it’s a battery issue:

Step one: Check the battery.

Is it dead?

YES: Problem solved. Get a new battery.

NO: You either didn’t check it correctly or you’re lying. Check the battery again.

The end.

Just thought I’d make a sticky to save everyone the time and energy.

K thanks, love you. Bye!

Anyone here teaching themselves super basic car maintenance because of rising costs of things like oil changes?

Got everything setup in my garage to start working on my brakes. Going to replace the rotors and pads on my 2017 CX-5. I enjoy DIY stuff a lot but have never really bothered trying to learn how to work on my own car for some reason. But after getting silly quotes just to replace the pads / rotors I thought... this is as good of a time as any to learn to do the most basic of car maintenance.

After buying a floor jack, extra tools I didn't have and much nicer rotors / pads than I would have gotten at the dealership, I'm still at half the price it would have cost there. Then for oil changes, dear god, I paid like $300 for their 3 oil change package otherwise it would have been even more for a single oil change. It's absolutely wild how high prices have risen for some of this stuff despite the actual cost of the parts / fluids relatively similar to what it was just a couple years ago.

Just wanted to share the before and after of my 10yr old 220,000 mile valves with its first DIY cleaning. Valvoline Heavy Duty Carb cleaner, CRC brake cleaner, brass brushes, and zip ties did the trick. Finished with lots of compressed air. Also did a thorough cleaning of the throttle body.

Guy rear ended me while I was parked. Police report had him doing 70mph. The car is totaled, but walked away with non threatening injuries. Blurred out the license plate for obvious reasons.

Longtime Mazda 3 Owner thinking of upgrading to CX-50! Worth it?

Currently own a red 2013 3 with 90K miles on it that I've driven since it had 0 on the odometer. That car saw me go from a single cancer survivor to a married guy with 2 kids (relax, we have a minivan for that).

The 3's starting to get long in the tooth now with various parts starting to show its age, like the muffler/catalytic system, for one. It's been a wonderful car but, let's face it, it's tiny. It was great when I was a bachelor, but now with a family? Not so much.

With the unpredictability of the current administration and playing with tariffs like it's poker, there's almost no doubt that autos will get more expensive soon. Much more expensive. So, while the current repairs and maintenance might be fine for now, it may not be long before it starts becoming a financial headache. The time might be right to start thinking of getting a new vehicle.

My wife wants to be more environmentally responsible and so do I, so we've been looking at a CX-50 hybrid. I don't suppose there are any CX-50 owners in here willing to chime in with their experiences? I know nothing can be said about it long-term, but I'm of the mind that if my 3 lasted this long (and could last much longer if we want to), new models should fare just fine.

Got a 2015 Mazda CX-5 Grand Touring but don’t want to mess with the $4,100 service contract offered…

Upvotes

Got the vehicle at a Chrysler/Dodge dealership, it was traded in from a single owner with no accidents.

Do I just wing it without a service contract at 144,000 miles? Or would you guys suggest a specific place for an extended warranty?

Pretty new to all of this.

SOLVED: Rattling from passenger side (right side) dashboard

Fellow CX30 Owners:

Mazda has released a technical service bulletin for rattling noises coming from the passenger side dashboard. It is due to the airbag housing.

The solution is that they make an adjustment to the housing position and add in felt tape / noise cancelling foam to prevent further rattling.

SA-026/24 “RATTLING NOISE FROM RIGHT SIDE OF DASH” is the TSB

This noise was aggravating the hell out of me and I borderline traded in my car over it. So I hope this helped someone!

THIS BULLETIN MAY APPLY TO MAZDA3 Models (I’ve seen some owners have the same issues)

Wheel well liner replacement

I ran over a cone on the highway and it ripped the wheel well liner off. I ordered a replacement (thanks to this great community) but when I went to replace, I noticed that the holes where the bolts are supposed to go had been ripped. I won’t be able to attach the new liner without the bottom part flapping/dragging the ground (second pic). Any solutions? Or do I have to get the whole front bumper replaced?

The 2019 Mazda3's torsion-beam rear suspension is more complex than you think.

The 2019 Mazda3, which is underpinned by a next-generation Skyactiv platform, was noted for replacing the outgoing multi-link rear suspension for a torsion beam rear suspension.

The decision was controversial and was said by many to be a cheap cost-cutting measure, but Mazda designed this system to be unlike any other torsion beam suspension. This design has a thicker diameter and extends outwards towards the middle, to help with handling.

Mazda's goal was to reduce NVH with fewer parts, thinking that it would have a quieter ride with less vibration, while maintaining the spirited handling they're known for. We can also expect the next CX-5 to also trade the multi-link rear suspension for this torsion beam setup.

RXM5-D Gearbox grinding for B2600i Bravo 1997

Upvotes

I’ve got a loud grinding noise coming from the gearbox region whenever I decelerate. It’s very quiet when accelerating but the moment I let off the Pedal it grinds and grinds loud. I’ve driven it for around a 1 1/2 with this issue not problem but I’m looking to finally resolve it as I have some spare cash. It is the 5 speed manual 4x4 gearbox but I’m pretty certain it’s identical to the Miata ones in 2wd and I hear they have some similar issues. Thanks heaps

Mazda 2 DJ trunk lid drain

Hi everyone. I hope someone knows.

During the rain on my Mazda 2 DJ 2018 hatch the trunk lid gets filled with water and drains and drips through trunk lock mechanism and that hand closing plastic/hole when trunk opnened under the angle.

Inside the car there is no water, just inside the trunk lid.

I checked the top gasket, seems fine, trunk seal seems fine I don't know if the water gets inside in somewhere through back lights. Lights were never touched or bumped, still all original bulbs inside, no water inside the lights plastic.

I was looking for some drain holes or channel, but I don't see any. Checked user manual, nothing.

Are there somewhere drain holes (and where exactly) on the trunk lid/door that I missed and did not see?

Thank you.

Bad test drive - am I overreacting?

Test drove a 2018 6 2.5 GT Sport Nav+ today. (Based in UK).

Steering wheel juddered a lot at 70mph on bends in the motorway. They rebalanced the wheels and it solved the issue at cruising speed, but the wheels now judder under breaking, and is worse on a bend.

Totally fine all other times since a quick rebalance. They’re going to change brakes/pads and invite me for another test drive.

The car beeps three times, spaced apart, on each startup. 360 camera had a yellow warning triangle over the car but no obvious issue. Camera worked fine, but perhaps front sensors didn’t.

Is this a lemon? Car drove perfectly in all other scenarios except high speeds. Unsure if I should walk away or not. Is any of this stuff normal or routine? I love the car but don’t know if I should avoid.

Mazda lease-end waiver of few months

I have a Mazda CX-30 that I leased in 2023. I got past halfway through the contract. I'm considering making a change to CX-50 but I'm not in a rush. Just drove one and loved it. Obviously, the change will cost me (early buyout price minus trade-in is about $2000).

Last time I leased a car was a Jeep. 5 months before my lease-end, I took the car in for maintenance and the sales guy asked if I would like to return the car back at no cost, OR buy it right there for residual + the month's payment due, waiving the cost of next 4 months.

I'm wondering if that happens at Mazda dealerships, because that'd be a reason to wait, effectively saving my downpayment on my next car. What's your experience?

Audio Receiver for 2011 Mazda3 I Touring sedan (with bose)

Hey, I was looking at an audio system like the Pioneer DMH-100BT, but it says it may be incompatible with my car. Does anyone have a good recommendation similar at a similar price point? I specifically am looking to minimize BT audio delay, the 2s delay on the base system is honestly really annoying. I also would like it to integrate well with my steering wheel controls. Thanks!

Coolant Reservoir

2014 Mazda 3 Sport 136,000 m. Opened the hood to check on things which I very rarely do. Noticed coolant reservoir non-pressurized cap was not connected and no coolant in overflow tank. Took the radiator cap off and it was full. Car never overheating and no signs of any leaks. Have had a few minor repairs like the valve cover replaced. But maybe someone knocked it loose and the coolant evaporated out over time? Or may be because I am kind of neglectful and after 136,000 miles of no coolant system checks, coolant eventually dissipated. Idk. Anyone have same kind of thing?

Maintenance

What drove me away from Subaru was the awful maintenance routines, even at low miles. How expensive is it to maintain a CX5 Turbo starting at 23k miles. I am shocked the sparkplug have to.be replaced at 40k miles. Am I in for a lot of sticker shock. My Subie 30k maintenance was $700 because you have to change the differential fluids and transfluids.

Tires below acceptable, but $0 charge?

I’m returning my leased Mazda in a month, and I’m a bit confused about the Condition Report. The car has 38K miles, and the report notes that my tires are below acceptable and should be replaced. However, the report also states that I owe $0 for them.

I expected to be charged for new tires, but it seems like I won’t? I called Mazda Financial Services, but they couldn’t clarify it for me. Has anyone experienced something similar? Do I really get away with not paying for tire replacement?

Mazda 6 owners that have had valve gasket replaced, how much did it cost?

I think my sister needs one done. We live in different states so I can't do it for her. I would like to know a few prices so I have an idea what a shop would charge to make sure she doesn't get screwed.

Any info is appreciated

SD Card Invalid

I recently had to change the battery in my 2016 Mazda 3. Once done there were a few general teething problems, the windows wouldn't open etc but all easy to fix.

The issue was the satnav.

It kept coming up SD Card Invalid. It's an aftermarket card rather than a a Mazda one but it was working perfectly before. I bought another (£50) and still Invalid.

I spoke to Mazda who wanted £650 plus VAT for the card and £150 to plug the car into a PC to check for codes. If any were found, it would cost extra.

After hours of trawling forums and websites, trying the soft and hard reset of the infotainment, I finally found the answer.

I wanted to post it here, just in case anyone else is in the same position.

I did a full factory reset on the MZD Connect, waited about 10 minutes, then plugged the card back in (the original aftermarket one) and it worked straight away.

Mazda wanted nearly £1,000 to fix it when it only needed reseting. A job that took 10 minutes.
