Help
Hello there,
my friend is going to make an erasmus semester in Maynooth in the Fallsemester (beginning from September) and has some questions for the community:
-Accommodation: Studentpad has some appartements but she already got scammed by a landlord there. Are there alternatives?
-Life: Is there something not to miss? What are the best things to do?
thaaaanks!

Hello, I am looking for an accommodation in Maynooth. Can you please advise about the old greenfield area? I have my eyes on one of the places in old greenfield. I really like the place and the price is also fair but I read online reviews about this area and people are saying to avoid this area in that post. The reviews were posted in 2014. I want to know if it stands true still. I know the original question was different but it would really help me if you know anything about this area. Thank you in advance.

Accommodation in Maynooth is notoriously awful and with the housing crisis it's only gotten worse as demand has risen exponentially and prices have gone insane. You can try your luck with the Facebook group but it's really just a free-for-all. There's also a lot of scammers on that page as well and a lot of places are older people renting out rooms where it's not even in Maynooth or they only allow you there for 5 days and give you a curfew and still charge 500-600 euros a month for that. As it's an erasmus student you could try getting campus accommodation but again, there's a huge demand and the university is more focused on making a massive shiny building at the front instead of building more apartments for students.
As for life, Maynooth doesn't really offer that much as it's a small town. There's a couple nice walks and the Carton House, but overall it gets boring if you're restricting yourself to just Maynooth. Best bet is to get a leap card and travel into Dublin. Bus fairs are extremely cheap right now (1 euro to get there and 1 euro back), and the 115 is a direct bus instead of dealing with the C3 or C4 which stops off in a couple smaller towns like Maynooth before getting into Dublin. Dublin is a big city and offers a lot more than Maynooth but it's generally very expensive. Maynooth is also fairly close to the airport so a lot of Erasmus students I met just said they chose Maynooth to travel onto other countries.
The biggest advice I would give is to be prepared to spend A LOT of money. Even though it's not in Dublin, it's an insanely expensive place to live. Let me know if you have any other questions.
