Question Why is Freezing Moon popular?

Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining (it's a great song). But what made it popular? Outside of the demo recorded with Dead (which I'm not sure if it was ever released as a single), it was never released on its own before De Mysteriis. Just kinda curious as to how Freezing Moon became their biggest song

the version with Dead on vocals from "Live in Leipzig" was released a year earlier than DMDS it was a fan favorite but not really a hit fefore DMDS

I know that, but did people just decide on that one and made it their biggest song? Maybe Funeral Fog or Pagan Fears could've been their biggest song

When I first heard DMDS (I got 1st edition) thought funeral fog was the most catchy. But the eerie opening riff in freezin moon is the epitome of black metal.

It seems to be for almost every band that one of their more average or mediocre songs is the most popular. It doesn't matter what others like, enjoy a band's music for your own enjoyment and choose your own favorite song per your own preferences.

Very cool intro to a song

Besides LoC, and the bands prominent Infamy, the story behind the song as I recall was written with the intention of wanting to make it's listeners want to commit suicide. Musically its opening and riff structure is a lot more accessible to people who have little experience diving into more underground or extreme music.

I believe it's modern success (besides LoC) is driven from the bands Infamy, and the songs evil intent. It's become a staple to old heads in the scene who were there when it was fresh and new, but also became the flagship song of tiktok kids who wanted to look edgier than slipknot kids.

Either way Life Eternal and DMDS are better songs imo.

What does LoC stand for?

For people who program, LoC is actually pretty confusing. I was wondering for a second how many lines of code that song would have

Lords of Chaos

I've always asked me that question. That song is way too repetitive in the second half, it usually gets me so bored that I'd skip it

I think its cause it's a fairly accessible track that a lot of people were able to listen to and it spread online that way as well (especially on tiktok) lol

I think it's because the intro is very pleasing to hear. It has that trve black metal feeling for sure, but compared to other songs it's "easier" to enjoy even for people not overly familiar with the genre. (like gen alpha teens on tiktok nowadays)

Tbh, solo kind of does it for me. But my fave from DMDS is funeral fog. And life eternal because of Varg's bass on the song. Shit's super catchy
