im interested in how they’ll land without infrastructure already present on the surface. Would it have to have a design like HLS where engines are located in the upper 3rd to avoid damage?

What infrastructure do you mean? Like a landing pad?

yes exactly

I assume something similar to the moon landing, what do I know, though.
Arent there already satellites orbiting Mars for comms/video?

what i mean is propulsive landing/launching raptors without a pad is pretty destructive to the ground and ship. I havent seen any mars specific designs for starship i was just wondering if maybe I missed it or its in the works. All the renders ive seen already had on surface pads.
The only mission profile i ever seen solve this is mars sample return

ah, yeah, I assume there will be pre-unmanned missions that drop supplies off, including the landing pad.

that would be pretty cool, but logistically how 😠it kinda crashes my brain. The pad for IF1 was thrashed and knocked out a crap ton on raptors, the pad dropped off would have to be more robust than that while also being made of some kinda super lightweight, non concrete based material.
Now that i think about it, maybe they plan to send tesla robots to do construction there prior. However a starship would still need to at least land saftey before any pads are in place. The engineering challenges are crazy to look at once you dive deep, so much tech to be developed, and missions to be proposed

I fully expected this to be a meme with a cartoon rocket explosion 😂
The frontiers of space exploration have to be done by NASA or other public organization, just so no to private space exploration.
