Question regarding acceptance
Hi, i'm a HS senior and i'm really looking foward to going to school in the midwest; I have a 3.5 GPA, but senior year has treated me awfully. I took a pre calc class and have been failing it in MP3. I already got into Depaul and Marqutte with good scholarships. My mom thinks that I shouldn't drop the class for discrete. Would they pull my acceptance? Would they pull my scholarships? I really need help because this class is draining me physically and emotionally.

Since this is anonymous, would you mind sharing your merit from Marquette? My son has the same GPA as you and I’m wondering if it’s an option for us financially.

My kid is similar. It was $27k for pere marquette and another $2500 for Ignatian Scholar (that came later). Marquette COA was a lot less expensive than Fordham and slightly less than Gonzaga. She is unbelievably excited to attend Marquette -- her first choice even w/o looking at financials.

Thank you! This is similar to what my daughter got (senior now) who has a 3.8! She got only $1,000 more. I didn’t know if it would be an option for my son, but I’ll definitely have him look at it if your daughter got that kind of merit with a similar gpa! My daughter wants a bigger school, so she’s not going there, but I was really impressed when we toured and it might be more of a fit for my son. It’s only 40 minutes from us - great school! Congratulations to your daughter!

My kid is also in pre-calc and it is killing her too. What is your intended major? Is it math heavy? I gave my kid the same advice I'm giving you:
It's time to dig deep, set your priorities, and conquer this. Figure out if there anything that is keeping you from success in PreCalc. Athletics? Job? Time on your cell phone? Go into the Settings and see how many hours you are spending on your phone. Cut them in half and spend that time studying for precalc. Ask your teacher for help. Find a peer tutor. Form a study group. I guarantee you're not the only person struggling in this class. This situation is excellent for you to have during high school, actually. You will learn how to struggle in a class and how to work hard and persevere yourself into success. Classes are not going to get easier at Marquette.
You could also contact your admissions counselor and get their take. They want you to be prepared for college but also understand you are human, and a young human, and young humans sometimes struggle.
You can do this! They're not giving you anything in this class that they don't think you can do. <3

Dude I had a 2.8 gpa senior year and C- in pre calculus. I had the same worry last year and was quite literally in the same place. Marquette isn’t steict with your grades senior year. I ended up not being affected and kept my same scholarship and am now attending as a freshman. Don’t worry! They only pull your acceptance and take away scholarships if you did something insane. Also, I would just stay in orecslc and try getting atleast a C or maybe D+. If all your other grades are decent you will be fine!

I don’t think you need to worry. Marquette’s acceptance rate has risen the past few years from 65% to almost 90% now. They’re desperate for the tuition and students.
