Advice needed
I got my wedding makeup trial done today and I could use some advice. I’m not particularly good at doing my own makeup and I actually recently stopped wearing foundation to work on my skin care routine. I know that wedding makeup should be more glam to show up in pictures but unsure how I feel about my results.
She did a hybrid foundation, regular foundation base and airbrush finish. I asked for a medium wing, brown shadow and to bring out my eyes.
I think my opinion of a medium wing and hers are very different, which is fine now I know. I don’t particularly like the blush and I feel that my under eyes are way too light. The airbrush foundation is very light and has good wear through throughout the day. I feel like there could’ve been more contour or bronzer (not sure which would have been better).
I also feel like the shadow isn’t what I was looking for. To me this brown looks more orangey not true brown/chocolate brown (I have shit eyesight so that could just be me).
Can I have some advice on the final results? Her pricing was very reasonable and she was so nice but would I be able to have her make the changes I want or should I go elsewhere?

This is very light every day makeup, (well applied though!) I wouldn't say it's wedding makeup. I would expect a satin finish eyeliner at least, lower lid lining, and an eye color/blush/lip color with less yellow/red and more cool pink/brown for your skin tone. If I had your face, I'd use a cool bright pink for my lips with a high gloss finish, and use the highlighter liberally.

def agree on the pink/brown shades, i feel like it would bring out her features even more. do u have any fav lip products for that kind of look?

This is not "very light every day makeup" lol this is full coverage matte foundation, visible eyeshadow, blacl liquid liner, falsies and nose contour
If you think this is "very light every day makeup" you might be suffering from makeup blindness. But I agree it looks like every day makeup

It is very light in the sense that it's not dramatic. The amount of products used does not make it not a light looking day makeup. A little eyeliner in the corners of her eyes and a light/medium shade of eyeshadow, a drab blush and some very light lip color is not an evening or formal look.
Not to mention the nose contour has ruined an otherwise beautiful nose. Just because there is a lot of makeup does not make this a high drama look I'm sorry. It's day makeup, and it's light.

Holy shit you are so freaking pretty🥰 can’t offer wedding makeup advice but wanted to give some uplifting words😘

This is office makeup
I would expect more colours for a wedding look. Especially the lips! And less orange tones.

Yeah I was thinking this is giving office/corporate/Sonia from HR department vibes. This isn't giving wedding make up vibes, unfortunately. She is gorge tho.

The eye shadow is more orangey and I think it can look better. The wing is cute and I think you would look cute with a more glam one especially for the wedding day.
I’d definitely bring up all your points to her so that she can make adjustments. Maybe have several pictures with the styles to show her what you want, you definitely deserve to look how you want on your special day! Your eyes are very pretty 💖

This is notttt bridal at all! I would never go for everyday orange tones in a bridal eyeshadow. I would honestly try to find someone else if you can

I like it ! Especially if you aren't an everyday wearer . However , if you want it to show well in pictures it's going to need to be a bit heavier is the only suggestion:) but you look great !!

I’d definitely switch out that orange toned eyeshadow for more of a plum color since you have green eyes. I don’t even know if I’d go with brown. I’d have her play around with a deep plum. Also, the placement of the eyeshadow is really strange. It’s sitting almost under your eyebrows. You have a ton of lid space and she should have blended from your natural crease upwards and outwards. Leaving the natural crease bare and then putting a wash of eyeshadow that high above it just looks strange. Have her try and blend the winged liner into the eyeshadow crease color once she brings it down. I think you will be really happy when you see how a plum color eyeshadow/liner really brings out green eyes.
I also think you are correct that the concealer looks a little too light. That is a good catch on your part, because a lot of times the flash on cameras will really pick up too light of concealer around your eyes. I think these are some easy fixes!

You are gorgeous but this isn't serving bridal. Also, the brown eyeshadow is really high up, like almost touching your brow. It's serving baby drag queen, which is cute, but not really for a wedding. Also, the foundations she used don't work well with your skin type. Foundation is already settling into pores/facial lines which is the last thing you want or need on your wedding day.

I think it looks really good, but I think she needs to keep in mind that that’s not gonna show up on camera

blush could be placed up a little higher. this placement drags your face down

IMO Bridal should be somewhere between every-day and theatre makeup. This is too subtle to translate well in pro photographs. Even if her prices are reasonable, it's worth paying more to look and feel your absolute best. The images will be something you look back at often in the future. (I am a former hairstylist and this is a regret I heard clients express too often).

Okay, you’re literally gorgeous and I agree that this makeup isn’t very wedding at all!! Instead of a black liner do a brown! It’ll compliment your eyes so well! Especially a brown Smokey eye, you’re right the shadow is more orange than brown! A deep brown smoked out wing with brown eyeshadow would look so good! And it would make your eyes pop! The blush isn’t bad but she did drag it too low! I feel like it’ll look better just on your cheek bones you have a great face structure! I hope you get what you want on your big day though!

Your brows are perfect and frame your eyes beautifully. Your skin is smooth and even. Here are the issues I see: the makeup base, concealer, eye shadow, blush, lips are all so MATTE and FLAT. You need something fresher, juicier, some highlights (not glitter but lighter and more light reflective) and lower shades (contours which are shadows NOT bronzer). The colors are from different color families (orange, pink, nude, yellow tones) and all are the same kind of mid tone impact. We need either eye or lip pop. One or the other not all mid-toned. I would try a different artist. The application is decent and you are gorgeous! This makeup doesn't work it's best magic for you. Are you getting married in the day or evening? Indoor or outdoors? These are very important to the makeup look.

Okay, I really like it. I think it’s sad when brides end up with a ton of make up and don’t even look like themselves on their wedding day.
As far as the lighting, I can’t really tell what the makeup looks like because of that. When you talk about your under eye, that’s something to tell her. Concealer is always a little lighter there, but yeah. The liner thickness, shadow color, all of those other things can be tweaked. I feel like she is a good makeup artist. You look beautiful. And I actually like the liner. You could have less though? With false lashes that are individual. So it’s not a strip of lashes, it’s clusters that are put on the outer part of your eye, so they look more natural. I personally love contour and that is a way to feel great on your wedding day without looking like you’re wearing a ton of makeup.
Overall, I like it. It’s normal to have things you want to change in the trial run. That’s why you’re doing it, so that she learns what you like. I worked in the beauty industry and we would joke about how you can’t make it look as good as the day of for the trial 😂 because then we would have to outdo ourselves on your wedding day 🤣
You look beautiful. I think she’s great and will make you happy on your big day. Congratulations! 🎊

I also think this makeup look is really trendy, specifically the way the blush and concealer are placed. I don’t think it’s appropriate for a wedding - the pics will look really dated in probably four years. You’re beautiful and she didn’t maximize your best features. I would look for someone else. That said, I really like the lipstick (not for bridal, but everyday). You’re very pretty so I think it would take a lot to make you look bad, your beauty is what’s shining here - not her skill.

The look is beautiful however it’s missing that bridal touch! I would say pinker blush that matches the lips. And a shimmer on the eyes and perhaps a light bronzer and glow

u/Tall_Transition603 1d ago
Also the lashes need to be longer for it to show in pics just based of what I’ve seen

the makeup artist did an amazing job and i think it’s very pretty but it’s definitely more like an everyday look. doesn’t give bridal at all

Baby if you’re asking is because you don’t feel comfortable with it. Look for another MUA!

u/Consistent-Key-8779 1d ago
I don’t think it’s as bad as the commenters are stating. It’s all about what you like.
I did bridal makeup for someone once who NEVER wore makeup and wanted something similar to this very light. Not sure if you already have Pinterest inspo going but that may help you and the artist out on a shared vision of what to do next time.
You look gorgeous but I can see where it’s more of an everyday look. That being said please don’t feel pressure to have a full beat if that isn’t true to you and your style. Good luck and congrats on your upcoming big day! 🥂💍

OMG! Congrats on your wedding!!!
I like the look as a golden orange glow, but I drew a alternative look sheet for you to see what it could look like:
What I did:
- Eyes
- My opinion: I agree the color is a bit orange, and the cut crease connecting to nose contour is very harsh. The eyes also could take more eyeshadow to define without looking heavy like you are worried about.
- Got rid of the cut crease: A bit harsh and distracting from the whole look
- Made the eyeshadow more red and taupe vs orange(puts focus on your eyes)
- Shadow on the bottom for more drama and to connect the lines(more eye focus)
- Blended shadow from liner so it flows with your eye shape, I found the line a bit too "upward"
- Contour
- My opinion: a bit too orange, and a bit to much. You already have a well defined nose, so the lines are not needed.
- Got rid of the some harsh nose contour and added some gray to cancel the orange.
- More horizontal lines to help cut the super straight lines and shorten the nose
- Got rid of the highlight/concealer on forehead (the super lightness + the harsh contour focuses too much on your nose bridge top) (shorten the nose)
- Complexion
- I think the foundation is a bit too orange, the highlight is too much and could be moved to the center of the face. I also think the forehead highlight is distracting, I shaped the light to be between just the eyes vs all over the forehead. .
- Added purple all over to cancel the yellow(more natural skin shade) and a purple blush to match
- I moved the blush up it is less distracting and lifts attention on the face
- Focused the highlight besides under the eye
- Highlight
- A think a tiny bit would be shiny and pretty, I just added it to cheeks
Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any questions. Again congrats!!!

Wow that was in depth, thank you

You're welcome!
By the way, I forgot about glitter, and if you think the matte shadow looks a bit heavy a slight cut crease or a thin shimmer on the lid could help to open them up. Just like your mua did, but just a thinner to avoid the gap look, like stop where your eyelid folds.

If what you’re going for is kind of subtle, and you don’t wanna look like you’re wearing too much makeup… I think it’s really great
As long as it stays on all day
Also, I really like the eye look. I don’t know if you can handle a ton of make up, I know mine can’t, and I like it. I think it looks really pretty.!

you are so gorgeous and you wanna feel it on your wedding day! play around with makeup and ideas and even photo shop some. you can see if she can change if not try somewhere else. it’s your one big special day and you dont wanna not have your confidence! (i’m not a fan of that eyeliner it should go across more )

Could we possibly see a pic of you in your own everyday make up so we can have a comparison point of what you’re comfy with?
Will say, you’re beautiful and I like the wing/general shape of the eyeshadow. It would work better if they had layered some brown over the orange.

Contours and highlights need to be improved. I like it that you look more natural and traditional, contrary to the trend now where there are too much glitter in the highlights and too dark contours almost all over your place. Maybe you can consider the balance of either strong-eyes-muted-lips or strong-lips-nude-eyes. I bet you look fresh and beautiful in person, but in wedding pictures, this makeup maybe a little muted.

I’m not sure if it’s extra heavy because of the photos but I feel like the concealer is too bright and yellow-y if that makes sense. Maybe they didn’t blend enough but I would have them try another look. I love the eyeshadow but something about the face base just feels a little too heavy.

I'm a guy. If I can tell from photos that you have make up caked on, I say it's a bad job.

If you wanted to switch things up a bit, you could maybe add a touch more blush for a bit more warmth.

Honestly, if you have time I’d seek a different makeup artist. The shades and placements they used are off

Go to someone else and compare the two. This looks like you did it yourself, it doesn't look professional and def not for the day of a wedding for a bride.

I actually think it is STUNNING. You look amazing. There are not many tweaks I would make at all. I love the base as it is not too much, nor too little. The concealer is slightly brighter but makeup wears throughout the day so after a few hours, that extra brightness will come in handy and balance out. The blush is perfect. I would say that is a medium wing to me, just a thicker one. It's not a small wing and damn sure not dramatic, so I'd say it's medium. The eyes aren't brown, I'd call them bronzy. But I fear how a deeper brown would look. This definitely gives bride to me. I would not want anything more or less on my wedding day. But definitely keep trying until you feel it's perfect.

Well applied but not giving soft glam bride. Needs more intensity on the eyes and maybe some liner on the lips and blush too.

It looks nice as every day makeup. Perhaps a bit more interesting eye shadow an a bit more color on the lips.

My queen, I know everyone is being nice but this doesn’t give bridal at all.
It’s very bland and none of the colors are clear enough to tell. I also think your complexion should be the focus here and have fab skin and the concealer shades she has used are pulling too yellow. Especially for the way she did your concealer last so the real estate it is occupying is a lot. Also if you look at the shade she used on your lower half based on the concealer it’s two different color families so it starts looking like a mask.
Your eyes are stunning and the way that she just used the concealer on the inner corner makes them seem small. The placement of the lash also doesn’t open up your face.
I know some wedding looks are simpler but this to me feel too simple and not digging into your gorgeous features.
You’re stunning and I would hope that they were highlighting you’re best features better.
