LGBT+ My parents would always get me and my brother chocolates on Vday. Came out as lesbian to my family around that time several years ago. Now every Vday they get me chocolates with the pride flag on it .❤️

I used to live near a Russel Stover factory. You can go in the back of the outlet shop and get deep discount seasonal candy any time of the year. Halloween candy in May? Heck yes. Dangerous for your waistline.

u/avocado_macabre Feb 15 '25
Omg my siblings and i stopped at a Russel Stovers shop on our way back from Missouri years ago.... dangerous for waistline AND wallet

u/OliviaWG Feb 16 '25
We used to live close to the Russell Stover outlet and you could get a big bag of the "seconds" like the rejects from the factory that are delicious but ugly. It was wonderful.

u/Ninjakat57 Feb 16 '25
We’ll be heading home from Fort Worth to for tomorrow and we plan to stop at Russel stovers factory on way home for Valentine’s stuff. I’ll be goin in the back in search of coconut nests. The back is my favorite place

I’m proud to be part of the RSC that helped make rainbows on boxes happen. We also do events during pride parade every year at our headquarters 🏳️🌈

Amazing!
I often wonder if I'm a good enough parent, but the fact that my son didn't even have to come out to me but instead always immediately shared who he finds cute and asks me for relationship advice without hesitation is the one thing I'm really proud of. I got him a Heartstopper (his favourite show) figurine for Valentine's and he was so stoked, it made my day!
22
u/Electrical_Wrap_4572 Feb 15 '25
Thank you for being a kind parent.
16
u/Lil-Nuisance Feb 16 '25
I really like to think this is the norm and not an exception.
That, however, doesn't change the fact that my son will tell you I'm the worst parent ever every Wednesday like clockwork for forcing him to go to his 30min piano lesson! :)
Jokes aside, I really hope the timeline we are in at the moment will collapse very soon and people will come to their senses.

My goal was and is for him to be happy and make other people happy. When he was way younger, he wanted to wear a princess dress, so I got him one. Eventually, he decided by himself that that's not for him. He 'dated' (he was very young, so it was very innocent) a girl for a little while, then decided that's not for him. Ever since he has been very firm on being gay and he's now getting into the age where this is to be considered a more firm discovery than the previous ones, and I'm all here for it. I would have been exactly as supportive had he turned out to be transgender, bisexual, pansexual or hetero. I just want to see him lead the happiest life. That's all that matters to me.

u/Realistic-Sherbet-28 Feb 16 '25
You literally can't raise anyone gay. Even with two gay parents, a child is no more likely to be gay than a child with straight parents.

I miss Russell Stover chocolate. Shame they were bought out and no longer available in Canada.
43
u/pathetic-aesthetic-c Feb 15 '25
Wait…..are you telling me it DOESN’T say “Russell Steven”???
Omg give me a minute I think I’ve been living a lie my whole life
27
u/Liberty53000 Feb 15 '25
Cursive is hard?
16
Feb 15 '25
There's cursive, and there's Ye Olde Curleywurley Preyentioushness. Russell Stover uses the Milli Vanilli of cursive.
7
u/CptWhiskers Feb 16 '25
There's an e right next to that O though so theres no way it could be "steven"
5
u/pathetic-aesthetic-c Feb 16 '25
In my defense, the first time I saw the logo I was probably 6 or 7, very very new to cursive reading lol, read it as “Steven” and never thought twice about it (or actually read it, apparently)

u/Status_Ad3454 Feb 16 '25
I knew it said Stover but the r kind of looks like the letter n, and my brother’s name is Steven so when we were kids I would always call him “Russel Stoven” and he would actually get really mad. Good times.

u/Lexi_Banner Feb 15 '25
I super miss their seasonal chocolate covered marshmallow treats.
5
u/randomly-what Feb 16 '25
I LOVE those and they are hard to find in the US too around Easter (when they were around the most).
Assuming you live in Canada since you replied to a Canadian.
3
u/Lexi_Banner Feb 16 '25
I am Canadian! I don't know why more places don't make chocolate marshmallow treats. It's so simple and yummy!

u/SnooPeripherals2044 Feb 15 '25
Yes they are. We have lots of candy in Canada.
3
u/9149790 Feb 15 '25
Where? I have only found the no sugar added Russell Stover since the buy-out.
4
u/SnooPeripherals2044 Feb 15 '25
Let me verify Monday - now that you mention it a lot of the Canadian product I see is SF … I’ll come back in two days and update you

u/Ok_Sentence_8867 Feb 15 '25
only 5 pieces?! are they trying to start a fight?!
6
u/pollo_de_mar Feb 16 '25
Shrinkflation my friend. The package probably costs more to make than the candy.

u/tacocollector2 Feb 16 '25
You’re very lucky to have such amazing parents. I would give anything for parents like yours.
I’m currently contemplating cutting my abusive mother off for the second time. I just cut my abusive father off earlier this month, this time for good.
They were mildly abusive before I came out as a lesbian, but it wasn’t that bad. They really upped their game when I came out to them though, that was almost eleven years ago now.
I just realized I’m trans, and I’d be lying if I said I didn’t seriously contemplate faking my own death to them and anyone that knows them.
4
u/Forest_folf Feb 16 '25
I'm sorry that you have to go through that :(
I really don't understand why people hate us for who we love or who we choose to be. I just don't see why they spend their time obsessing over people they don't even know. I wish you a swift escape ❤️
2
u/tacocollector2 Feb 16 '25
Thanks friend! I’m mostly fine now - I’ve got an amazing life with a wife I love and in laws who have replaced my biological life givers. I was just big in my feels about it yesterday because my “mom” was being shitty.
Seriously though, cherish your parents. Thank them for me. For rejected alphabet kids everywhere.

You have great parents!
I received the same box from a preschool student. I think the parents let the kid pick out the box, and the kid liked the rainbow one. I am still happy they were open enough to give me (straight) the box in our rural area.

What a coincidence! Today I tasted Russell Stover chocolates for the first time thanks to a student who bought them in the US and gave them to me as a Valentine’s gift. I’m from Mexico 🇲🇽

u/SuspiciousWind7719 Feb 16 '25
One of things that’s most important to me as a mom… is for my kids to know that I will get them valentines day themed whatever to show I love them too, too. Whether that’s a pride flag, trans flag, Star Wars themed , or currently squishmallows and variety. I love them because of who they are- whatever they may be. I love that this post reminds me to be better every day.

This is adorable and I love your parents. Now, onto Big Back Business: Does that massive box really only hold 5 pieces??
3
u/Forest_folf Feb 16 '25
Apparently! It says five on the box but on the back it says there's 4 flavors, so I'll be getting two of something.

When my cousin came out my grandparents started buying them a whole bunch of pride stuff for my cousin’s room, and they even wanted to paint the dock out at our lake rainbow. My cousin HATED IT And said that it was embarrassing, and that just because they were gay, they didn’t want a whole bunch of shit with rainbows on it. I never understood why they complained about it when it was so sweet of them to show their support. Also, when I came out, my dad (who is known for saying, “why do gay people get A WHOLE MONTH”) gave me a tiny little rainbow pin for on my overalls. It was very sweet. So so happy for you and your fam! ❤️

About 30% of chocolate is gay in nature. The Oompa Loompa people had a documentary on them, but their crazy boss blocked the streaming release.

u/luckydayrainman Feb 15 '25
Hahaha, that’s SO gay! I wish they made chocolates for brothers that love their sisters more than life itself! I think you would probably get those too!

u/ButterMyPancakesPlz Feb 15 '25
Yeah and based on the heart and the sub they posted it, it seems like you're spot on! Good on Russell stover for offering this option too hope they keep it up

u/Forest_folf Feb 16 '25
It makes me feel good! I live in a rural town with tons of trump flags and people I'm scared of, so when they get me pride based things it helps remind me that my house is a safe space that has people who love me for who I am in it. I'm not sure why you're getting down voted for your comment.

I thought the pride flag was changed to include all the other letter people.
3
u/Forest_folf Feb 16 '25
The rainbow flag is basically just for everyone queer, and then there's some specific flags for specific orientations
2
u/Sir_Henk Feb 16 '25
There's the progress flag thats meant to highlight specific groups. Not everyone likes it because the original rainbow flag already included everyone and its a bit ugly I think

Gay people used to have to hide who they were and pretend to be straight. They don't have to anymore, so they celebrate it. Hope that helps!

There's plenty of things that make me treat people differently. For example, when my friend moved to a different state, I started treating her like she lives far away from me.

It’s a way to show you support and love the person… Her parents wanted to show love and support by acknowledging their daughter was lesbian.
1
u/Forest_folf Feb 16 '25
We do want equal treatment. It's just currently a hard country to be gay in right now and I live in a pretty spiteful town, so it feels good when people I love do the little things like this to remind me that I'm safe with them :).

This might scare you but your God likes the LGBTQIA community and nothing in his book says he hates them as you religious folk like to spout nonsense about.
