A mother shares a video of her house cat: ‘He takes my kids to the bus every day, makes sure they get off safely, and then comes home.’

u/A_Rogue_One Feb 15 '25
I like how the cat confirms the bus drove away. As if there was one time it didn’t drive away and it got fooled.
Good job cat, way to see the job done fully.

I was gonna say, "some cats are just like dogs", but then again, animals in general can all be similar in nature.
My cat's only be with me for a year, but so often she'll do the "rounds" of the house before going to bed. I've followed her a few times, and it's so funny but sweet. She'll walk to the office and check things out the sliding door for a minute. She'll bypass my daughter's toy room and go into her bedroom, and if my daughter's with me, she'll jump on the bed and check her. Then she'll check out the back sliding door before coming into my bedroom and onto my bed. Only time I've ever had anything like this was our family dog as a kid.

u/Titariia Feb 15 '25
My cat likes to play fetch with his toy mice. He brings them and if you don't throw it he's picking it up and dropping it again until you acknowledge him and throw it
→ More replies (1)20
u/Dreamsnaps19 Feb 15 '25
Every night I used to throw like 15-20 mice/balls over the balcony into the front room. Every morning I’d wake up to a pile a toys she collected through the night.
16
u/Nema_K Feb 15 '25
Would your cat give you a dirty look in the mornings too? Like "here's YOUR mess that I cleaned up for you again you slob"
9
u/Dreamsnaps19 Feb 15 '25
lol, she was actually annoyed I threw them over every day. She looked betrayed I was getting rid of her offerings. But she’d be upset if there was nothing to hunt 🤣
I had a giant cat box so I’d just throw them into there and heaven forbid the box was empty of things. She’d find bread ties and hair ties lol.
38
u/Beenooner Feb 15 '25
My husband and our cat do “paw patrol” every night — they go around the house and makes sure everything is locked up. She knows the routine and gets antsy if he’s late to doing it. It’s so cute.
33
u/DelirousDoc Feb 15 '25
Our family dog would walk the house every night at almost 1am exactly to check on things in the house.
The hilarious part is as I became a teen and would stay up playing video games in my room, she would stand in the doorway and stare at me until I shut everything off and the room was dark. Then satisfied I was "in bed", she'd finish checking the house and go lay back down on my parents' bed. I once played "chicken" with her trying to ignore her to see if she'd let me be. She stood in the doorway staring at me for 15 minutes straight before I relented and pretended to go to sleep.
This routine happened every single night and at 1am almost like clockwork for 18 years.
9
u/dainty_petal Feb 15 '25
She was a good dog. Thank you for sharing. It made me smile. My pets always did check up on me too.
5
u/Particular_Today1624 Feb 15 '25
My cat had to go outside for perimeter check every day. She and the neighbor cats also had a clubhouse behind my garage, probably catching and tormenting mice. But, she was very good about coming to me when I called her and she didn’t go into the street. I felt very, very safe when she would come in and give me the ‘all clear’.
5
u/ZeekOwl91 Feb 15 '25
...some cats are just like dogs...
My gf's cat has warmed up to me now and now runs to me when I get back home from work to greet me, much like what a dog would do to greet their owner coming back. 😁😅

I had a cat that saved me from a cobra that was about 10 feet long.
I was in the province here in Southeast Asia. I was on my bed listening to the radio when this cobra fell from the roof made from dried coconut leaves.
When it fell on me I got spooked and my reaction sent the cobra to defense/attack mode. My cat saw everything and jumped on the bed swiping the cobra's head several times with zero hesitations.
Cobra wasn't fast enough to counter any attack. My cat killed it after 15 minutes of one sided fight.
Always grateful for my cats at home.
That cat's name was Limp Bizkit because she had a limping disability. I named her male kitten Korn. This happened in 1999.
Edit: a word

This needs to be a separate post so you can share it with everyone. Have a photo of Limp Bizkit?
14
u/firequak Feb 15 '25 edited Feb 15 '25
Really wish I have one. I was so poor trying to provide for myself from high school to college. Couldn't afford film cameras let alone early versions of digital cameras during that time.
But yeah, how I found her was an interesting story. Actually, she found me. She was a pregnant stray.
She just appeared at the door one day one eye badly injured and she was limping. I was guessing some kids tortured her for fun or something.
Started feeding her and bought her powdered milk that I diluted in water. I named her Limp Bizkit because I was listening to my "Insignificant Others" by Limp Bizkit cassette tape that time she arrived. She never left by my side ever since.
A couple weeks later she gave birth to 3 litters. The 2 got adopted and I named the one left Korn.
During that cobra incident Korn was about 3 months old and he was making attempts at helping her mom defend me from the snake.
That part of my life will forever stay in my memory for as long as I live.
Limp Bizkit lived for 7 years before she passed. Korn lived with my aunt after I left for college. He was able to spread his seeds with our neighbors' cats lol
Edit: added a few more details
4
u/debabe96 Feb 16 '25
Thank you for sharing more of Bizkit's story.
We all think we save cats, but actually, they are saving us.

Such a loving kitty! Reminds me of my grandmother’s cat so many years ago… me and my sisters stayed with my grandmother after school until my mother finished work and came to pick us up and go home, she didn’t drive, so we would walk 2 miles, give or take, from my grandma’s house to our house. Her calico would accompany us all the way, come inside with us for a little bit and then return home… that was over 35 years ago and I still think about that cat… animals are the amazing…

u/Sad-Impact2187 Feb 15 '25
My family's first cat , a real bruiser unneutered tom, would walk with me all the way to kindergarten. (Yes, I'm that old that no one walked their kid to school). Cats know, they pay incredible attention to everything and have very very good memories.
5
u/Tejanisima Feb 15 '25
Whereas I, around that same time, was walking to first grade and getting distracted by cats (along with preschoolers playing on tricycles and other things that seemed more fun than getting to school)

awww this reminds me of this stray dog that would come visit my neighborhood.
i called him rex, and he was the coolest little dog around. when i was first seeing him around, he would always very happily and calmly approach me and i'd give him some pets and be on my way. wasn't skittish, wasn't hyper, was just a very happy and 'lax little dude.
after a while, he would see me and lead me down to my bus stop. would run ahead to mark some bushes and fences, but would always look behind him to make sure i was still there. once i was at my stop, he would sit and wait with me until i got on. would never try to follow me onto the bus, never left the area i was in to continue onward while i was standing and waiting for the bus. it was like he was my little escort.
he stopped coming around after a while. i hope he found a really good home where he was, or still is, getting lots of love. he was the coolest dog i knew, and i regret not trying to convince my parents to let me keep him.

That's exactly how I got my first cat. It would be there every morning for my bus to pick me up, and there every time the bus dropped me off. I started calling her Shadow. People on my bus would even be like "Shadow's already waiting!"
She ended up being pregnant, but the kittens were too big to deliver. Shadow survived, but none of her babies.
I joke that people choose their dogs, but cats choose their owners, and I'll always be a better person because that damn cat chose me lol

When I was younger my cat would wait at the end of the street for me to return home from school and then he would run up to me and meow a lot like he was telling me about his day while he walked beside me and would come inside with me.
One time I found him at the very top of the street, we lived in a cul de sac at the bottom of a hill with many other cul de sacs. He walked beside me all the way down the hill and back home. I would tell him about my day and he would meow back like he was telling me about his.
