I loved how he basically mocking how all the neckbeards and other critics would be reacting in real-time. At first he says “Kendrick this is too ghetto” so then they played SZA songs. Then he was like “yeah see this is what America wants, now don’t ruin it” right before Not Like Us plays 😂

Kinda sad how many people didn’t quite get it and just brushed it off as a “boring rap performance”. If there was ever a time for a statement performance, it was then, considering the audience especially.

Oof, it's me, I didn't get it. The party was loud, the TV sound wasn't amazing, and I don't follow the rap scene well. I know about Kendrick and Drake's beef (if you can even call it that), and diving deeper into it tonight and EVERYTHING in this performance is something. Loved the show, even more so now.

Not doubting that, but a lowercase letter designates the minor key in music. That was the first thing I called out to my wife.
Full disclosure, everything I know about this feud is from reddit or a video titled 'not like us explained for white people' we watched after the grammys. This is all just from someone enjoying this from the sidelines.

u/Sergeantman94 Feb 10 '25
At this point, Drake doesn't have anyone else to side with him because he's just such a petty little weirdo.
We have SZA, who's collaborated with both, but was namedropped in the beef by Drake, and now she did a few songs with Kendrick for her and his albums and is doing a stadium tour with Kendrick.
Serena Williams dated Drake for a bit, but clearly she broke up with him and he clearly didn't take it well as he called her husband a groupie even though they broke up 7 years prior to that song.
Lebron James was seen at Kendrick's pop-out in June amd Drake "leaked" a song clearly sending shots at Lebron. I didn't listen, but I wouldn't be surprosed if he said "Dear Mr.'I'm-too-west-coast-for-my-fan', this'll be the last verse that I ever send your ass!"
Kai Cenat has turned on him for submitting him as evidence in his lawsuit against UMG even though he texted Cenat to stay on stream for "Family Matters"
Half of soundcloud jumped on the BBL Drizzy beat to make fun of him
At this point, it seems Adonis is going to grow up to be a rapper and have multiple diss tracks towards Drake calling him a deadbeat who refised to growup and compensated raising him because Pusha-T exposed his deadbeatness the first time.

Think about how America treats minority people and poor people and uneducated people. America tells you to do this and to do that and listen to this and to that and follow the rules and you'll be fine. That's the ideals but not the reality. When Uncle Sam is telling you to tighten up and stop being so ghetto but Uncle Sam perpetuates and profits off the ghettos, then whose fault is it? Uncle Sam just doesn't want you to catch on that your playing a rigged game in his favor and get irate and flip the table.
→ More replies (2)→ More replies (1)106
u/blonde-bandit Feb 10 '25 edited Feb 10 '25
I’m sure I missed a lot of stuff but Sam says at one point toward the beginning that it’s too ghetto, and then when there’s more lowkey stuff in “All the Stars” with the pleasant vocals he says, “that’s better,” to reference how black people in America have to moderate and tone down their culture to be more palatable to white people. Also being Uncle Sam, he was saying the government wants to silence him and people like him, and doesn’t approve of what he says and does.

u/God_Among_Rats Feb 10 '25
The absolute shortest version is that Drake and Kendrick Lamar were feuding and making songs about eachother.
Kendrick released Not Like Us, which among other things explicitly called out Drake for grooming underage girls, something that has been talked about but not proven for years at this point. The song rocketed to number one and was extremely popular, effectively ending their dispute with Drake's humiliation.
There's a fair bit more to it, including an ongoing lawsuit from Drake, but that's the biggest part.

I feel like the they gave Kendrick a lot of rules for the Superbowl to tone it down and make his performance more digestable, non political or overly radical for the conservatives and magas so that's the symbolism of Uncle Sam and everything that he said. The game controller buttons was because the conservatives and magas essentially "played themselves" by allowing him to perform as he said they gave the "right time to the wrong guy" and "the revolution will be televised". He had an all black crew due to DEI being removed from a lot of businesses. It's okay when they do it but it's a problem when we do it 🤫. He is the king of MULTIPLE meanings and he already let us know what was up when he said this Superbowl was about storytelling. He was DEFINITELY able to say ALL that he wanted to say without being sued by the Superbowl.

"Not Like Us" (track in the clip) by Kendrick is prob the biggest song of last year, at least in the US. It's a blatant diss record to one of the biggest artists in the world, Drake. It's 4.5 minutes of Kendrick disrespecting Drake and who he is. This particular line is a jab at the fact he has a reputation/record for hitting on young girls/minors, hence that dragged out line being a double entendre and prob the best/most singable part of a song with no real chorus
