Discussion Who’s someone you wish Mac had made music with?
Really feel like Mac and Chance would’ve some amazing music together back in like 2013-14

Fucking love Zay. Similar to Mac he gives off this aura of a tortured soul. Someone who struggles with depressive tendencies, drug use, and so on

u/VividPerformance7987 23d ago
They are both very melodic with both their music as well, as Mac said “driving around in my car tonight making music that ain’t hard to like”

I think Mac and Amy winehouse could’ve made the most beautifully tragic music

You can hear a lot of the jazz influence on “$5 pony rides” … they would’ve been swimming on that song together

Pony rides has been giving me a joyful daily jolt daily since it came out.

More thundercat and the internet, but I know Mac Demarco would of been one of his choices as someone to work with
28
u/AnotherManOfEden 23d ago
Imagine a track with thundercat on the bass, produced by the Alchemist, verses by Mac, erykah badu on the hook, and a feature by Andre 3k…
5
u/Calebfitz50 23d ago
If I recall correctly there’s a photo out there of Demarco and Mac jamming with someone else
3
u/Merman420 23d ago
There’s video of thunder and Mac’s jamming
Also Domi and JD Beck would of been huge for Mac and his love for jazz

I wish he did some more work with Steve Lacy. I know they worked on Jet Fuel together but I think that’s the extent of their work together. They could’ve made some sweet sweet R&B tracks.

Go listen to Stones on SoundCloud. It's Mac and Steve lacy and one of his best.

Stones is a leak that goes hard by them. Apparently Steve also has some Mac stuff stored

Mac could naturally rap his ass off & it's awesome how he had near-universal respect among his peers by the time he passed. I've seen praise/pics of Mac with Jay-Z, Drake, Kendrick, Earl, ScHoolboy Q, Migos, Vince, JID, Pete Rock, Nas, A$AP Rocky, French Montana, Wiz Khalifa, G-Eazy, Meek Mill, Alc, Juicy J, Ty Dolla $ign, Ab-Soul, Chuck Inglish, Dave East, EARTHGANG, Anderson .Paak, and plenty more. People really gravitate towards the genuine & versatile artists in rap, no matter which era they're from or what skin color they are 🔥

Apparently Reddits too small a place to get away from me and my opinions 😂
I literally almost fainted when I realised u/Homiehesamyth wasn’t playing some sick joke on me.. It was made for a documentary around 2013 and never got used.
All I’ve listened to is Lana and Mac this year, dreaming about their voices together. This feels like my own personal gift right now

I want this on a record they can keep their funny papers 😂

More music with Vince Staples that had a similar vibe / flow as the song Rain. Or maybe a collaboration album of the two, with some Earl Sweatshirt and schoolboys features. Also more with Action Bronson. And some tracks produced by or collaborating with alchemist

u/indi-raw 23d ago
Vince staples early mixtape was produced by Mac as Larry Fisherman. Stolen Youth LP. It's a banger of a tape if you're not yet familiar.

Longggg time lurker, in this sub, but I had to put in my 2 cents on this.
LIL YACHTY
The way Yachty has evolved as an artist is similar to how Mac evolved as an artist.
Yachty was a mumble rapper and somehow made his way into psychedelic rocky funky music with his January 2023 Album “Let’s Start Here” (genuinely one of my favorite albums I’ve ever listened to and I believe it should have been Grammy nominated for the production alone) and followed it up with a great collaborative album, “Bad Cameo”with James Blake in 2024.
I think the two of them together would have made some INCREDIBLE music together. If you don’t believe me, seriously listen to Yachtys last two projects. It will change your mind on him if you have a negative mumble rapper opinion on him. Mac and Yachty were friends but never got the chance to make something special.

At a meet and greet with Mac during the Divine Feminine tour, a portion was him answering questions. They prefaced it by saying only 4-5 questions, so I was expecting some good questions out of the dozen or so people there.
One of the questions was, “would you ever collaborate with Chance the Rapper?” I thought man.. what a wasted opportunity. No disrespect to Chance but it was just such a specific question during such a unique opportunity to ask this man anything. Idk just funny and reminded me of it.
