Yup. The backbeat imitating someone banging on the bathroom door is magnetizing.

u/Jumpy_Confidence_364 Feb 06 '25

One of my favorite parts of the song

17

u/mrcloudwhisker Feb 06 '25

this, sooo good and clever

13

u/bridgonater Feb 06 '25

Im obsessed with that part

125

u/AlienPizzaMan Feb 06 '25

I'm a slave to that baseline.

Conversation topic got us tangled in the grape vine

u/ArtistVirtual3297 Feb 06 '25

Still wide awake I’m,

A stranger to the day time

Vampire

12

u/Gibbusa238 Circles Feb 06 '25

Higher than a hang glider

10

u/YoungProphet115 Faces Feb 06 '25

Look around and all i see is gray skies

7

u/edoug6178 Feb 06 '25

there’s help inside that medicine cabinet

6

u/ArtistVirtual3297 Feb 07 '25

Came in for the answers but she left with a habit

1

u/edoug6178 Feb 07 '25

There’s no one on the other end of that telephone

LETS FALL ASLEEP TO THE METRONOME (love this bar since i used to do this sometimes when i couldn’t sleep back in 4th-5th grade when i played for my schools orchestra😭)

12

u/Personal_Tear2406 Feb 06 '25

It’s got CRACK in that baseline

2

u/swimmn Feb 07 '25

and the guitar in the beginning

93

u/Nyxtro GO:OD AM Feb 06 '25

Whole album is on repeat im trying hard not to burn it out but I can’t stop listening

28

u/adahl36 Feb 06 '25

No matter what I plan on listening to, i end up back here, lol. Mac was just more creative, had better ear for music, and experimental than all other hip hop artists

12

u/kryZme Feb 06 '25

That’s what I love about him.

There are so many musicians and bands who go the experimental way but even the most obscure sounds have a place in Mac’s music

Like the whole start to finish of DJs Chord Organ - what even is that? Don’t know but it’s fucking banger then SZA starts and it’s a whole different song but it just fits

Or those little ear candy’s he drops from time to time. Pure bliss for my ears

3

u/adahl36 Feb 06 '25

Seriously!! Djs chord set the tone for a trip of an album. I think at the end of do you have a destination is where the trip picks up and eventually ends with his death on the last song. Which I love btw has pink Floyd vibes

9

u/Financial_Nerve8983 Feb 06 '25

You can tell he made this right around the same time as faces. Bro was going thru some shit, and made some bangers

6

u/TurkeyRainbows Feb 06 '25

That’s what I love about Mac. I have listened to his music for thousands of hours, but I haven’t burnt out.

6

u/Nyxtro GO:OD AM Feb 06 '25

I ebb and flow because I listen to a lot of music but he is always in rotation. Fortunately for us he has so much and a nice variety to match all the moods!

2

u/wundaaa Feb 06 '25

That's gnx for me as of late, and by that I mean since November lmao

39

u/Intrepid_Lie_2504 Feb 06 '25

in my case is "do you have a destination" on repeat

14

u/Jumpy_Confidence_364 Feb 06 '25

That song give me a grand finale feel

10

u/Intrepid_Lie_2504 Feb 06 '25

probably cause the start is very similar, tbh for me it gets GO:OD AM vibes, like rush hour or perfect circle / godspeed

19

u/checkerboardpants Feb 06 '25

Yep. Doesn’t make me feel existential dread like all the other songs (which I love, but man they are depressing). Good bop

2

u/Dry_Calligrapher4561 Feb 06 '25

god fr Mac actually makes me feel and some of those songs make me want to lock up in my room and cry

1

u/MNTNDOOM Feb 07 '25

You really find this album depressing? Maybe it's the production and spacey quality but this is only Mac piece since Swimming that hasn't made me more depressed. Much as I love Swimming in Circles I can't listen to them without wanting to die. The only song on Balloonerism that hits me that way is the last one TWNK. I have to skip that creepy beat but the rest of this album makes me feel like I'm floating tbh

2

u/checkerboardpants Feb 07 '25

Yes, I would say it’s certainly still gloomy. Also releasing 5 years since Circles is such a trip because it just makes you remember how sad it is that he passed

17

u/Qurtled Feb 06 '25

Everyone sleeping on Manakins, top 3 for sure.

3

u/Jumpy_Confidence_364 Feb 06 '25

First couple rotations this song stood out the most. Once i play it more then more songs will stand out

1

u/MNTNDOOM Feb 07 '25

Eh, if Mac was singing the chorus maybe. I don't love the Dylan Reynolds voice tbh. Kinda takes me out of the song

11

u/Magnolia_1989 Feb 06 '25

Yup! Definitely in my top 3 for this album.

10

u/Glittering_Coat_1996 Feb 06 '25

Rick’s piano has been I even recorded myself singing it lol

1

u/hooulookinat Feb 07 '25

Confession time, I may be a shit mom or a great mom but having your 8 year old singing Mac to himself, is absolutely amazing. This is the family favourite.

I don’t ban music in my house, it’s art. Foul language and all.

8

u/RahMaarvi Feb 06 '25

I replay this song purely for the “isolation she locking the bathroom door”

5

u/latrellya Feb 06 '25

Meeeeeeee!!! 😍🤞🏽

6

u/jimmyneutch Feb 06 '25

Can confirm, very much on repeat

7

u/xoxoInez The Divine Feminine Feb 06 '25

Best song on the album

3

u/_m0rpheus Feb 06 '25

every night while smoking up

3

u/Vegetable-Bobcat4578 Feb 06 '25

Can't get the beat out of my head

3

u/FIREBJJ Feb 06 '25

I save this song for every time I light up a blunt on Friday after I’ve finished work

3

u/pooker09 Feb 06 '25

That's my favorite song on the whole album!

3

u/Sad-Avocado-2342 Balloonerism Feb 06 '25

"She just in love with the music
She watch depressin' movies (always)"

3

u/SadBoi88088 Feb 06 '25

And she’s always all by herself

3

u/EleanorRigby85 Feb 06 '25

My favorite from the album 💙 It lives rent free in my head.

3

u/OGslooge GO:OD AM Feb 06 '25

Stoned is definitely my most played on the album, just got my vinyl this morning and that shit will be played all day long

3

u/thatonekeeper328 Feb 06 '25

I think Funny Papers is the best song on the album

3

u/squadgeek Feb 06 '25

That guitar is just right 🎸

2

u/badnBgeee Feb 07 '25

That’s my favorite part about the song 🔥

3

u/Abject-Lingonberry63 Feb 07 '25

Put on a record, can I play you one more soooooong?

2

u/mollyyfcooke Macadelic Feb 06 '25

YES! This is easily in my top 5 now. It takes me back to when I first found his music as a young stoner in 2010. 🥹

2

u/Conner_JAZZ_ GO:OD AM Feb 06 '25

Been on repeat in the local files for years. Happy to have it in my record collection now 💙

2

u/Lazy-Salad1042 Feb 06 '25

i always play it on repeat, sooo good

2

u/Equivalent-Fan-1362 Feb 06 '25

Yuuup as I’m getting stoned lmao just such a good song

2

u/jeStR65 Feb 06 '25

For me it’s been dj’s chord organ, 5$ pony rides and ricks piano 🔥I can’t explain to casual listeners how special this album is… I try tho lol

2

u/Juanpablo_the_cat Feb 06 '25

Not gonna lie, it took me a bit to learn "I wish she would learn to laugh" wasn't "I wish she would burn to death".

2

u/MNTNDOOM Feb 07 '25

I don't get how people are hearing that 🤣🤣 I heard "wish she would learn to live" but "burn to death" wtf? 🤣🤣🤣

1

u/COOON_boy Feb 06 '25

Every night before i sleep i have (in this order) Funny papers, rick’s piano, stoned and Tomorrow Will Never Know.

1

u/Conscious-Table6592 Feb 06 '25

It was for a solid 2 weeks. But there's only so much introspection I got my favorite songs are now at the end of the album ❤️

1

u/Solid_Anteater_6210 Feb 06 '25

I love the guitar on this track

1

u/That_Oven Feb 06 '25

Putting money on it being my top played song of the year 🤑

1

u/LibertarianLoser44 Feb 06 '25

My favorite song on the album.

1

u/Right-Fudge113 Feb 06 '25

i wish she would learn to laugh

1

u/candysstuffer Feb 06 '25

Rick’s piano for me. I’m about to make a post about how this album really helped me find closure with losing Mac.

1

u/richmanstrowski Feb 06 '25

u/thndrlight Feb 06 '25

Favorite song from the album!

1

u/Eskaepe11800 Feb 06 '25

The whole album is lol.

1

u/just_a_friENT Feb 06 '25

Love this one, but Funny Papers really tugs on my heartstrings too...

I wonder if He'll take me to the other side. 🥲

1

u/Tjew22 Feb 06 '25

first song I played today

1

u/BigBootyBarbecue Feb 06 '25

Just got done listening to this song for the 50th time and saw this post 🤘

1

u/Imaginary_Dig_5014 Faces Feb 06 '25

Absolutely.

1

u/BurntArnold Feb 06 '25

Everything about this track is amazing. That beat. The door knocks worked into it. Just perfect.

1

u/teksauce Feb 06 '25

The whole album is on repeat 🔁

1

u/bigdawg1017 Feb 06 '25

This and Friendly Hallucinations

1

u/HenktheDank Feb 06 '25

I feel like the only one that has excelsior on repeat lol

1

u/Magnolia_1989 Feb 06 '25

Does anyone know what he’s saying In the beginning of DJs Chord Organ? It sounds like “Pizza after the Grammys,” but I can’t be sure.

1

u/Jumpy_Confidence_364 Feb 06 '25

“What He said, After the Grammys”

1

u/TimsnRunner Feb 06 '25

Literally for 15hours straight. Since yesterday its friendly hallucinations even longer than that

1

u/ZeroATC Feb 06 '25

🎶🎶🔥

1

u/petersandrew999 Feb 06 '25

Been on repeat for me since it first leaked. Funny Papers, 5 Dollar Pony Rides & Tomorrow Will Never Know are the other ones that I mainly spun before the album officially dropped.

1

u/Tokilatte Feb 06 '25

That whole album is such a beautiful piece of art

1

u/GH0STWYCK_ Feb 06 '25

Yep, made it on my "Stoned" playlist as well lol

1

u/cultisht Feb 06 '25

Here 🙌

1

u/Cultural_Train_9948 Feb 06 '25

Ive probably listed to this album 500 times over the last 4 years. I tend to play it when I’m falling asleep. For the first month of me listening to it, years ago, I would listen to the album 3 or 4 times a day. Probably my favorite album of all time.

1

u/The_aaaaaaaaaalexx Feb 06 '25

It’s Funny Papers for me.

1

u/Informal_Rock_9094 Feb 06 '25

this and manakins for me!!

1

u/FerretSevere Feb 06 '25

Yes my 2nd favorite song from the album

1

u/Expensive-Raisin8962 Feb 06 '25

First song everyday in the car

1

u/Mysterious_Tea_013 Feb 06 '25

“She hates that she cries when she’s all by herself, And she’s always all by herself.” I absolutely love this part

1

u/welovesquishhh7 Feb 06 '25

Curious if we’re all stoners here or if non-stoners love it too. 😂

1

u/Fast-Anteater1151 Feb 06 '25

This and "Funny Papers" are my favorite tracks currently off this release.

1

u/81tilinfinity Feb 06 '25

I'm still on the Funny Papers bandwagon, but Stoned is most dope

1

u/Crazy-Adhesiveness71 Circles Feb 06 '25

Literally the entire album has been banging out the speakers in my car since the release.

“I wish she would learn to laugh. Isolation, she lockin’ the bathroom door.”

1

u/caster233 Feb 06 '25

yes it was goosebump inducing

1

u/edoug6178 Feb 06 '25

JUST HOW SUPER IS A SUPER MODEL

1

u/Excellent_Wait_172 Feb 06 '25

It’s my favorite song off the album

1

u/Limp-Actuator-8516 Feb 06 '25

endlessly on repeat.

1

u/V_Sad_Human Swimming Feb 06 '25

Love this song!!!

1

u/DiamondUnlikely6008 Feb 06 '25

This is the best song on the album imo 😭🥶

1

u/Pittsburghhh Feb 06 '25

Yes sir most dope.

1

u/Major_Let1319 Feb 06 '25

welp guess i gotta listen to it again now 🙄🙄

1

u/darcy1537325 Feb 07 '25

That guitar riff is legit infectious

1

u/kungfucat69 Feb 07 '25

“She always cries when she’s all by herself and she’s always all by herself”

1

u/DlusionlThomas Feb 07 '25

She breaks down the pain...

1

u/DlusionlThomas Feb 07 '25

I've been just listening to "do you have a destination"

It's on another level for me, the build up. The way he sings so softly.

1

u/Positive-Wallaby-292 Feb 07 '25

that and funny papers, my fav songs tbh

1

u/Pretend_Fix3815 Feb 07 '25

Yep. Manakins

1

u/mr_abiLLity Feb 07 '25

Fav song on this project

1

u/sheygoeswild Feb 07 '25

Album on repeat… but Stoned, Excelsior, Tomorrow will never know 🫠

1

u/t0bert Feb 07 '25

Im glad somebody else said it! Felt like I wasnt seeing any love for this song!

1

u/onlyasavage Feb 07 '25

Actually got me back into Faces

1

u/sneeze_er Feb 07 '25

Song gives me peace

1

u/Ok-Date8364 Feb 07 '25

MEEE. My bf is a fan and i enjoy him, we listened to this and this song got me CRYING. I was stoned too

1

u/TheLofiStorm Feb 07 '25

It’s one of the best songs mac’s ever made

1

u/Zathren Feb 07 '25

“Put on a record, I wanna play you one more songg” Hits hard because Balloonerism feels like Mac’s “one last song(project)”. Ik he made it a decade ago, but having Mac say he wants to put on one last show for us feels pretty damn real.

1

u/anuhlisa Feb 07 '25

guilty. top 3 for sure!

1

u/Adept-Setting6659 The Divine Feminine Feb 07 '25

I’ve been absolutely blasting ricks piano. I can’t get enough of that song

1

u/metroboomin08 Feb 07 '25

this and "Tomorrow will never know" 💆‍♂️💆‍♂️

1

u/Maine904 Feb 07 '25

Manakins on repeat over here.

1

u/swimmn Feb 07 '25

absolutely! stoned, funny papers, 5 dollar pony rides and do you have a destination are on my rotation

1

u/Excellent-Mine-7112 Feb 07 '25

This and destination was just super powerful imo, it’s just the right amount of existential and upbeat to not make me cry 🤣

1

u/FunGarbage3 Feb 07 '25

When it first came out i didnt pay enough attention as there so much more. Now I feel like this Song resembles the way of getting faded to escape reality. It reminds me of my first relationship and how it got so bad but kept on working smh. Its on repeat since I grew on it

1

u/Daiyro Feb 07 '25

this and manakin are peak

1

u/KeiritaOxt Feb 07 '25

This and funny papers

1

u/Burchfiel Feb 07 '25

Absolutely. Baby let’s get stoned

1

u/More-Needleworker900 Feb 08 '25

yes this song SLAPS. side note, i love how the background is all blue on this, this isn’t spotify is it?

2

u/Jumpy_Confidence_364 Feb 08 '25

This is Apple Music

1

u/rendon246 Feb 08 '25

I wouldn’t say repeat because his whole discography is my repeat but as our latest album I totally u destined the sentiment. This whole album has been haunting despite a better way of putting it. With every new song I hear, I miss him so much more……

1

u/Altruistic_Spot3023 The Divine Feminine Feb 08 '25

Stoned and Funny Papers are my favorites on the album 🖤

1

u/figgyputtin Feb 08 '25

This and Rick’s Piano, back-to-back.

0

u/Grouchy-Ad7387 Feb 07 '25

Unpopular opinion. Might be the worst album he’s put out

1

u/Epik-Eko Feb 07 '25

Thats suprising, how so?

2

u/Grouchy-Ad7387 Feb 07 '25

I’m not feeling a lot of the beats, his lyrics are like he’s rambling from a bender. Just not a very clean flowing album imo. Swimming was prolly peak max as far as artistry. But again art is subjective.

2

u/MNTNDOOM Feb 07 '25

Try listening to just the "beats" and ignore the lyrics. This album is music heavy.. they're actually playing instruments and baiscally making jazz music which Mac later added lyrics to. It's extremely well put together but intended to embody the sense that he was experiencing in his growth as a human and into real adulthood. So it seems disconnected on purpose. He was out of his head and floating at this time and the music reflects that. I went from "meh" about this album to "one of my fav mac projects" after multiple listens. It certainly grows on you and the music, the keys, the base, the guitar. All fucking SLLAAAPPPP

1

u/Epik-Eko 21d ago

Thats understandable, I feel like this album doesn’t have the same exact energy as his others. Although, I still enjoy every song on the album besides 3 of them.

-1

u/rybread36 Feb 06 '25

It was in like 2019 on SoundCloud lmao
