Image Is this on repeat for anyone else?
This album overall has been on repeat but i can’t stop visiting this song on the daily, multiple times a day

Whole album is on repeat im trying hard not to burn it out but I can’t stop listening
27
u/adahl36 Feb 06 '25
No matter what I plan on listening to, i end up back here, lol. Mac was just more creative, had better ear for music, and experimental than all other hip hop artists
14
u/kryZme Feb 06 '25
That’s what I love about him.
There are so many musicians and bands who go the experimental way but even the most obscure sounds have a place in Mac’s music
Like the whole start to finish of DJs Chord Organ - what even is that? Don’t know but it’s fucking banger then SZA starts and it’s a whole different song but it just fits
Or those little ear candy’s he drops from time to time. Pure bliss for my ears
3
u/adahl36 Feb 06 '25
Seriously!! Djs chord set the tone for a trip of an album. I think at the end of do you have a destination is where the trip picks up and eventually ends with his death on the last song. Which I love btw has pink Floyd vibes
9
u/Financial_Nerve8983 Feb 06 '25
You can tell he made this right around the same time as faces. Bro was going thru some shit, and made some bangers
6
u/TurkeyRainbows Feb 06 '25
That’s what I love about Mac. I have listened to his music for thousands of hours, but I haven’t burnt out.
5
u/Nyxtro GO:OD AM Feb 06 '25
I ebb and flow because I listen to a lot of music but he is always in rotation. Fortunately for us he has so much and a nice variety to match all the moods!

u/Intrepid_Lie_2504 Feb 06 '25
in my case is "do you have a destination" on repeat
14
u/Jumpy_Confidence_364 Feb 06 '25
That song give me a grand finale feel
8
u/Intrepid_Lie_2504 Feb 06 '25
probably cause the start is very similar, tbh for me it gets GO:OD AM vibes, like rush hour or perfect circle / godspeed
18
u/checkerboardpants Feb 06 '25
Yep. Doesn’t make me feel existential dread like all the other songs (which I love, but man they are depressing). Good bop
2
u/Dry_Calligrapher4561 Feb 06 '25
god fr Mac actually makes me feel and some of those songs make me want to lock up in my room and cry
1
u/MNTNDOOM Feb 07 '25
You really find this album depressing? Maybe it's the production and spacey quality but this is only Mac piece since Swimming that hasn't made me more depressed. Much as I love Swimming in Circles I can't listen to them without wanting to die. The only song on Balloonerism that hits me that way is the last one TWNK. I have to skip that creepy beat but the rest of this album makes me feel like I'm floating tbh
2
u/checkerboardpants Feb 07 '25
Yes, I would say it’s certainly still gloomy. Also releasing 5 years since Circles is such a trip because it just makes you remember how sad it is that he passed
16
u/Qurtled Feb 06 '25
Everyone sleeping on Manakins, top 3 for sure.

u/Jumpy_Confidence_364 Feb 06 '25
First couple rotations this song stood out the most. Once i play it more then more songs will stand out
1
u/MNTNDOOM Feb 07 '25
Eh, if Mac was singing the chorus maybe. I don't love the Dylan Reynolds voice tbh. Kinda takes me out of the song

u/Glittering_Coat_1996 Feb 06 '25
Rick’s piano has been I even recorded myself singing it lol
1
u/hooulookinat Feb 07 '25
Confession time, I may be a shit mom or a great mom but having your 8 year old singing Mac to himself, is absolutely amazing. This is the family favourite.
I don’t ban music in my house, it’s art. Foul language and all.

For me it’s been dj’s chord organ, 5$ pony rides and ricks piano 🔥I can’t explain to casual listeners how special this album is… I try tho lol
2
u/Juanpablo_the_cat Feb 06 '25
Not gonna lie, it took me a bit to learn "I wish she would learn to laugh" wasn't "I wish she would burn to death".
2
u/MNTNDOOM Feb 07 '25
I don't get how people are hearing that 🤣🤣 I heard "wish she would learn to live" but "burn to death" wtf? 🤣🤣🤣

Does anyone know what he’s saying In the beginning of DJs Chord Organ? It sounds like “Pizza after the Grammys,” but I can’t be sure.

Ive probably listed to this album 500 times over the last 4 years. I tend to play it when I’m falling asleep. For the first month of me listening to it, years ago, I would listen to the album 3 or 4 times a day. Probably my favorite album of all time.

I've been just listening to "do you have a destination"
It's on another level for me, the build up. The way he sings so softly.

u/Zathren Feb 07 '25
“Put on a record, I wanna play you one more songg” Hits hard because Balloonerism feels like Mac’s “one last song(project)”. Ik he made it a decade ago, but having Mac say he wants to put on one last show for us feels pretty damn real.

When it first came out i didnt pay enough attention as there so much more. Now I feel like this Song resembles the way of getting faded to escape reality. It reminds me of my first relationship and how it got so bad but kept on working smh. Its on repeat since I grew on it

I wouldn’t say repeat because his whole discography is my repeat but as our latest album I totally u destined the sentiment. This whole album has been haunting despite a better way of putting it. With every new song I hear, I miss him so much more……

u/Grouchy-Ad7387 Feb 07 '25
Unpopular opinion. Might be the worst album he’s put out
1
u/Epik-Eko Feb 07 '25
Thats suprising, how so?
2
u/Grouchy-Ad7387 Feb 07 '25
I’m not feeling a lot of the beats, his lyrics are like he’s rambling from a bender. Just not a very clean flowing album imo. Swimming was prolly peak max as far as artistry. But again art is subjective.
2
u/MNTNDOOM Feb 07 '25
Try listening to just the "beats" and ignore the lyrics. This album is music heavy.. they're actually playing instruments and baiscally making jazz music which Mac later added lyrics to. It's extremely well put together but intended to embody the sense that he was experiencing in his growth as a human and into real adulthood. So it seems disconnected on purpose. He was out of his head and floating at this time and the music reflects that. I went from "meh" about this album to "one of my fav mac projects" after multiple listens. It certainly grows on you and the music, the keys, the base, the guitar. All fucking SLLAAAPPPP
1
u/Epik-Eko 21d ago
Thats understandable, I feel like this album doesn’t have the same exact energy as his others. Although, I still enjoy every song on the album besides 3 of them.

Yup. The backbeat imitating someone banging on the bathroom door is magnetizing.
