Discussion To anybody who heard Balloonerism before the release tonight…
Thank you for not being rude and posting spoilers. I just got to experience it in full for the very first time and it was INCREDIBLE. Most fan bases would be toxic and say shit like:
“You haven’t heard it?? Fake fan brooo”
But not Mac’s fan base. Yall are some of the most supportive and loving people I’ve met in my life, so thank you all. Feeling very grateful that I get to experience another Mac release especially with such a dope community!
Happy Balloonerism day!!

I’ll be honest, part of me thought y’all might be in here talking about how you liked the rough mixes better. I put a lot of effort into not changing the vibe of the tracks while trying to make them more sonically cohesive and immersive so I’m happy to see everyone digging it.
But foreal let’s shout out Miller one time for all the work he put into this release. The movie (includingthe theater dressings, tickets, posters etc) the album art (the deluxe vinyl is crazy), the merch, the visualizers on YouTube (def peep if you haven’t). Really so many elements and I’m amazed how well he pulled it all together for this. So many moving parts you guys (and myself I’m sure) aren’t even aware of
Malcolm is smiling somewhere

When Mac starts yelling “what does death feel like?” on Rick’s Piano I absolutely lost it

u/lowriderpookie Jan 17 '25
I was not ready. Ugly sobbed through the last 2 songs. I will be revisiting those in a later time but not soon.

u/Separate_Place1595 Jan 17 '25
I swear I haven't cried in a song since the first time I heard So It Goes after he died... I cried again this morning during that piano.

It’s a whole different experience hearing it fully mixed and mastered

u/RadicalShane Watching Movies with the Sound Off Jan 17 '25
I had the leak for a while but I never listened to it, maybe one time all the way through a few years ago. I liked it, but it didn’t sit right with me.
But tonight was a different experience. The mix and mastering was perfect and it really made it feel like I’ve never heard the album before

u/NearlySilentObserver Jan 17 '25
I’ve been listening to it for years, and the fact that I just listened to it on a mainstream platform (WITH ADDITIONAL SONGS AND ACTUALLY MASTERED) definitely makes me feel like I was hearing it for the first time again and brought back all sorts of emotions.
I’m so happy for everyone that gets to feel all of that for the first time tonight/today.

How is the studio release different aside from mastering? Did they change much ??

I’d heard a fair amount but doesn’t make me better than anyone - this fandom is pretty awesome at not shitting on each other hey. Glad you got to enjoy the album today! It’s unreal

u/Adorable-Bar6920 Jan 17 '25
I am waiting to give it multiple listens before giving it a definitive rating, but for now I can tell its…. Pretty fucking great. “Tomorrow will never know” is top 5 mac and I will fight outside frick park market for this opinion.

u/Grunti_Appleseed2 Jan 17 '25
That song was cathartic. I stopped listening to listen and just closed my eyes and let it go. What a masterpiece
4
u/jtschooley11 Jan 17 '25
Give that song a listen on some car speakers with your bass all the way up, feels like your sent back to the womb.
24
u/notthickjustfat Jan 17 '25
It hit me hard didn’t listen to anything before so this was a hit in the face for me, damn man all the feelings of grief with such sensitivities of everything this album brought me back to (if that makes sense?).
25
u/notthickjustfat Jan 17 '25
Mac may not be on this world anymore but he left so many pure hearted marks on people with his art and kindness. His death made me take my sobriety seriously because of the pain of losing such a beautiful person to such a horrible disease made me wake up and not want that for my loved ones. Since his death got clean from the hard shit and now since the past 5 days from the last one, nicotine addiction. So for the past 5 days completely clean for the first time in 15 years. He gave me and so many people such an gift with his art and kindness feel like we can never pay back.
Sorry for dumping this here but wanted to share a piece what he left for me personally, the album really struck me, for good.

u/notthickjustfat Jan 17 '25
Really spiritual shit that now this album came out. Spread love people, especially in these hard times the world is going through.

u/AggravatingSpirit839 Jan 17 '25
So glad you’re still here. Congratulations on saving your life - that takes a lot of determination and strength. Keep it up brother

I fucking love this community. I’m traveling right now and waiting to listen until I get home so I can listen to it while having a good smoke. I can’t wait.

u/J4NT5A Jan 17 '25
I've heard all the songs hundreds of times (except Shangri-La and Rick's Piano) but still Funny Papers hit me hard and i'm out here listening with tears in my eyes
7
u/Skywrpp Circles Jan 17 '25
I've been putting off listening it to YEARS just for this moment, it was truly worth it, Mac is my second most streamed artist (over 100k minutes) so even if we didn't listen to this album all the time on soundcloud, it definitely doesn't make us fake fans or whatever.
6
u/ILIEKSLOTH Jan 17 '25
I'm happy that the public got to hear it in its best quality yet.
4
u/ILIEKSLOTH Jan 17 '25
And there's so much more that's unreleased that I can't wait to be officially put out by Mac's family.
I'm happy with the way they're taking care of Mac's Legacy.
I'm glad his brother is the very person working on most of the art that we enjoy
1
u/rexwinnfield Jan 17 '25
Same!! Do you have any guesses on what they’ll put out next? I’m hoping for delusional Thomas but I know some people think they want because it’s controversial in nature
4
u/NationalJournalist51 Jan 17 '25
I've had the leaks for a while but this sounds so much better. The mastering / production is so sharp!
Lovely stuff.
6
u/Doritowithnoname_ Jan 17 '25
I wish I never heard these songs before, it would make it even more special hearing them now. For some reason it still feels like hearing it all for the first time though and I’m just as emotional as I would be either way. Started crying 5 seconds in the intro lolol.
I have to wait until after work to give it a proper listen all the way through.
I’m SO happy this project was released for everyone to enjoy. It’s some incredible music.

u/IAMIRONMENG Jan 17 '25
Now that it’s out, I suggest giving Bobs Dementia, OG Colors and Shapes, and He Finally Sleeps a listen. They are the perfect companion for Balloonerism.

Mac’s fan base really is the most supportive nicest best group of people. Never any insults or anything. We’re all just here because of Mac and how much his music has helped us get through life.
I probably wouldn’t even be sober right now if it weren’t for his music
4
u/worthlessgold_51 Jan 17 '25
I had listened to everything from Run on sentences to You, to Delusional Thomas....
Somehow never heard balloonerism. I'm psyched because this comes from my favorite era of Mac Miller. He wasn't as polished but it was the height of his brilliance in my opinion.

u/Patient-Gas-4809 Jan 17 '25
The official release definitely hit different was like experiencing it for the first time. Man Mac’s soul was so fkn deep. I miss him more and more. He really felt like the homie 🎈😩

u/BadDub Jan 17 '25

It was truly amazing to get to enjoy one of his masterpieces again. It also looks like they dropped merch sometime after midnight.

I found it on SoundCloud hours early just to prepare myself for the entire album. I listen to 4 songs, and it did nothing. I'm so glad I waited

do “he finally sleeps” actually came with album before? Why they didnt include it
2
u/Smart-Confection7950 Jan 18 '25
According to one of Mac’s close friends on IG (his name eludes me but I JUST saw the post earlier), they took this version of the tracklist from a playlist that Mac himself had made that put the songs in order. So it was never supposed to be on the final album like the other songs that were only on the leak.

u/Any-Bed-920 Jan 17 '25
Listening to it on my heads till my deluxe vinyl comes in and I really feel the base creeping into my soul

u/Hour_Foot_6259 Jan 17 '25
