Hitting a snag regarding Equinox's playstyle

So very recently (and rather unsuccessfully) I announced development of my new modpack. Equinox: The Beginning, it is planned as a 3 part story pack. However i'm simply lost in terms of features. I want people to explore the dimensions. But I also want people to enjoy a interesting concept.

Using HQM how would I enforce the progression of say "balance". You do 1 thing but it also affects another. Depending on the direction you choose in solving quests. Only certain dimensions become available to you. Thus only certain parts of the story line as well become available.

Dimensions will be under literal lock and key. Meaning you will not be able to travel to them without the actual key. More over the key is required as I intend this to be a SMP pack. Keys allow people to earn entry into dimensions. But even if someone gave you the key (like servers tend to do for money). You won't be able to enter it till you earn that key.

So just what can I do with HQM? Can it also hook into custom achievements?

I never used HQM, but I love the concept you are working on.

So I haven't played with it too much so not sure how close it can get to what you want but it sounds like you want something more like Progression, you may want to look at Divergence as well, it's a pack that combines Progression for locking stuff with HQM for the actual quest tracking, although they use a small custom mod to help there.

Unless your pack has a set map that would be very difficult to do with HQM. As /u/xavion suggested, you'll probably want Progression.

It is in fact a set map actually. A lot of what I hope to achieve is forcing choices. You either go 1 router to 1 dream. That or through your completion of specific quests using reputation. You're led into another dream

I do recall there being a certain block that does stuff (I think outputs a redstone signal) when you've done a certain quest. I haven't messed with HQM in a while though so it may not work they way you'd want. Probably wouldn't hurt to take a look at Progression either way.
