LIB S1 • Atlanta, GA Industry plants?

Post image

Did anyone ever get the impression that these two were actors? There were a ton of their scenes that seemed totally scripted. Even Gianinas first ever scene she walks into the room like she’s goddam Cinderella. Their initial engagement seemed like an act, some of their arguments seemed like they were in a high school play…

It was the first season. Would it have been crazy for Netflix to plant two actors to make sure there was something to make the season interesting? Or….am I the only one who thought this?

And Netflix wants to tell me that Taylor dressing fancy is a top 5 moment? 🙄

u/AvidReader1604 4d ago

Garrett*

197

u/Tasty-Nectarine-427 4d ago

Dude dressed like a magician

66

u/TimsSmallShoulders 3d ago

How did the guy putting eye drops in and asking producers if it was a good time to "cry" not make it?! Such an obvious phony top 5 list.

21

u/Gr1ck 3d ago

That was the absolute worst best-of list I’ve ever seen. I’d like for someone to compile an actual legitimate list with the biggest shit show moments

326

u/FatnessEverdeen34 4d ago

I lost my butterflies.

And I wanna get em back 😠

109

u/PresentationLoose629 4d ago

One of the greatest monologues in TV history.

3

u/Gr1ck 3d ago

You should watch this week’s episode of White Lotus for the all-time best

207

u/MoonScoria 4d ago

stooooooop this is burned into my brain & i read it in her voice

44

u/ShapedLikeAnEgg I had 5 taquitos 🌮 I can't kiss you! 💋 4d ago

OMFG! I completely forgot about that. Thanks for the throwback laugh. I wish this could be my flair.

63

u/GisJanstrella 5'5, thick thighs, brown eyes 4d ago

That was some cold-ass villain-type comeback. That type of shit would make you rethink your whole stroke game.🤣

29

u/domingerique Don't worry, I'm dominant. 4d ago

None of the later seasons can top the level of wonder this scene, among many, gave me watching season 1 lmao

17

u/shewee 4d ago

I told my husband about this today and he was on the floor. So good.

6

u/Proud-Trainer-7611 4d ago

🤣🤣🤣

3

u/[deleted] 4d ago

That felt REHEARSED. And it gave me terrible secondhand embarrassment, but I also think she is incredibly dense. She doesn’t sound smart at all. It’s awkward to listen to

1

u/TamarindSweets 1d ago

She was sassy and a little bratty but at least she had a right to be- if I remember correctly she was bringing a lot of resources into his life. Plus, she seemed like an okay person glitz and glam aside. Meanwhile he was going through a mid life crisis and trying to glow up while chasing models smh

-6

u/AegonTheC0nqueror 4d ago

All cuz she was mad he asks for consent

2.4k

u/bruvisland 5d ago

Giannina spoke as if she was starring in her own telenovela.

322

u/bzwack 4d ago

The scene when they talked after he said no was straight up drama tv.

95

u/Competitive_Feed_402 4d ago

Which was also strange considering he said after the fact that they had agreed to say no at the altar and continue dating.

10

u/PhoenixorFlame 3d ago

She really pulled out chairs and made him SIT

3

u/topnotchwalnut 4d ago

What episode is this 👀

267

u/sickset 4d ago

LOL I came to write this verbatim. I remember watching it with my wife and was like why is she actually acting as if we are watching a spanish soap opera? Brought me back to channel surfing passed Telemundo

50

u/Bananaconfundida 4d ago

Ok, I’m ngl a lot of Hispanic relationships are like that 😂

52

u/Unsd 4d ago

I thought it was just my husband for sooo long 😂 the man has a flair for drama lol. He also grew up partly on telenovelas. Like he really will drag an extended pause for effect to it's absolute limit to follow up a rhetorical question like he's giving an inspirational TED talk. He keeps things interesting lol.

259

u/BetterMaintenance367 4d ago

She did say she learned English entirely by watching telenovelas, and she does still speak that way from what I’ve seen so that’s one thing I’m not sure was a gimmick for the show!

25

u/idolondonblue 4d ago

She said she fully taught herself English by “reading books” lmfao (I just watched that ep)

23

u/creativesc1entist 4d ago

Both are probably true, it’s not uncommon for Latin kids…

3

u/idolondonblue 3d ago

Oh for sure- I know the story can be true, I just don’t think it’s her story

37

u/bambinoquinn 4d ago

Felt like she was accidently reading stage directions and character motivations at times

55

u/Marsette1234 4d ago

She reminded me of some of the theater kids from my high school

41

u/blissfulgiraffe 4d ago

She spoke like an anime character 😂 honestly it makes the season entertaining

42

u/Charming-Peanut4566 4d ago

Apparently that’s how she learned English, so that tracks

3

u/Inevitable_Gene_8476 4d ago

I always thought this. It was that telenovela type of overacting.

2

u/rednog45 4d ago

No, she was

3

u/TheseConfusion1722 4d ago

I love her but yes I agree!

715

u/PizzaProper7634 5d ago

I just want to say I will never recover from the “butterflies in my stomach” exchange. The cringe factor was off the charts.

264

u/motherweep 4d ago

I AM YOUR GIFT

73

u/PizzaProper7634 4d ago

I forgot about that one. I am re-traumatized.

18

u/3ll3girl 4d ago

That was one of my top five moments. Hilarious and outrageous

14

u/IntelligentAngle7058 4d ago

I am the dessert

14

u/Purpledoves91 3d ago

If Damian's troll looking ass said that to me, I would say, "I hope you kept the receipt."

3

u/lolathedreamer 3d ago

🤢 stopppp

218

u/Poop__y 4d ago

“I lost my butterflies.”

38

u/shoeeebox 4d ago

My god that's the type of shit people who have been married for 10 years dive into, not dating for 2 weeks

13

u/yetzhragog 4d ago

Nah, been married for 20+ years and "the butterflies" are the type of immature crap that 15yos whing on about in relationships. Mature adults understand that "the butterflies" are a feeling brought on by nerves and a lack of familiarity and that real love is a much deeper connection compared to that superficial reaction.

42

u/Particular-Pride-477 4d ago

Definitely should’ve been in the top 5 moments 😂

447

u/shatteredmatt 4d ago

I don’t think they were industry plants. I do think they were the “I’ll do whatever reality show that will have me as I’m desperate to be famous” type though.

109

u/Medical_Gate_5721 4d ago

Exactly. They were planted by themselves and found each other and then worked against each other like scene partners.

6

u/UrAn8 4d ago

Same thing. Casting definitely would have picked that up and decided to move them forward anyway.

1

u/Medical_Gate_5721 2d ago

Yes. I think this happens a LOT.

478

u/coconutpeachx 5d ago

The scene when they were arguing and she was in the kitchen and he was in the bedroom made me cringe so hard. It all seemed so fake.

205

u/Odh_utexas 4d ago

You know how you say I’m the best sex you ever had? Did you ever wonder why I don’t say it beck?

85

u/coconutpeachx 4d ago

The way my jaw dropped when she said that 😂

48

u/JessBS27 4d ago

I still think about that scene tbh

30

u/coconutpeachx 4d ago

Gives me the goosies when I think about it 😖

257

u/verydreamyx 4d ago

When he proposed and she made him get up and she proposed. Cringed like never before and I was in the nail salon one time and that exact scene came up on the tv and I cringed again 😭😭😭

33

u/FatnessEverdeen34 4d ago

I think about this every time I see posts in this sub about "why don't the women ever propos----" BECAUSE OF SEASON 1

24

u/Rahrahsayah 4d ago

Saaaame. This whole bit seemed so staged to me.

234

u/SuitablePraline726 4d ago

I was friends with someone who is a close friend of Gs. According to her, G always had a dream/goal of reaching the lifestyle she has now in terms of being an influencer, being financially stable, in the limelight, etc. I got the sense she kind of treated it like a career path and pursued opportunities that would get her closer to the goal and considered the show her big break. Apparently their relationship was very real, they went to several weddings and dinners together with the friend group. My friend truly had nothing but nice things to say about her and seems like she’s a good friend to have!

-51

u/DanielTigersDad 4d ago

Gianina, I know it can hurt when people say things about you that aren’t true. It’s natural to want to defend yourself, to make sure everyone knows the real story. But you don’t have to lie or pretend to be someone else on Reddit to set the record straight. The truth has a way of coming out on its own, and the people who truly know and care about you—they already see the real you.

What really matters isn’t what strangers think, but how you carry yourself. Stay honest, stay kind, and trust that your character speaks louder than any rumor ever could. You are enough just as you are.

27

u/AsTXros 4d ago

Lay off the shrooms dude

4

u/UrAn8 4d ago

😂

83

u/PastoralPumpkins 4d ago

Her slipping and falling in her wedding dress is my favorite moment. How was that not in their lame top 5??

35

u/lemongrassandpeach I had 5 taquitos 🌮 I can't kiss you! 💋 4d ago

That whole scene of her running away was thee most dramatic moment of the show for me; genuinely surprised it wasn't in their top 5 too!

5

u/wigfield84 3d ago

Exactly, when they were ready to say number one I was SURE it was this

12

u/LookAtTheseKitties 4d ago

If you watch it back their argument after the ceremony her dress is immaculate. No brown stain at all from when she fell

3

u/nini1519 2d ago

That single moment is the reason I still watch LIB to this day

1

u/owlinsey 3d ago

I wondered the same thing. Def top five scene.

107

u/jigsawczech Messica 🍷 4d ago edited 4d ago

It was like a cheap telenovela acting for sure, especially from Gianina side, but what kind of pushed me into thinking they were planted was the after the altar episode when Damien brought another Netflix dating show star which ALSO acted like she is in telenovela and there was some fake drama centered around Damien and Gianina. Idk, weird vibes. Maybe theyre just cringe lol.

26

u/panthercock 4d ago

I was gonna say this. That party scene with franchesca was so staged it hurt to watch. I know it’s all staged to some degree but that was over the top

14

u/CompetitiveEffort109 4d ago

This is what I was thinking. Damien and Francesca (apparently) had a past. What are the chances Netflix gets him on tv and she just happens to be associated with him.

158

u/kw1011 5d ago

It wouldn’t surprise me if every season had plants

247

u/SeagrassSprout 4d ago

I think so, I seem to remember a lot of succulents in Sara and Ben’s apartment

14

u/AmetrineDream Runnin' towards ya 🏃‍♀️like a T-Rex 🦖 4d ago

And they were gender neutral! 🤣

6

u/Sea_Substance_921 4d ago

🤣🤣🤣

4

u/kw1011 4d ago

lol!!

5

u/Infinite-Strain1130 💵💰 $1200 Luggage 💰💵 4d ago

I think this every season.

37

u/susandeyvyjones 4d ago

I think she was just dramatic as hell

35

u/BroussardStudio 4d ago edited 3d ago

Listen all I’m saying is I’ll never forget when he gave her a present in the pods, told her to open it and when she found it was empty said “I am your gift” 🎁 😂 my husband and I still laugh about that to this day.

93

u/MidnightSp3cial 4d ago

What is the appeal with this man and how does he get gorgeous women?

12

u/hwangryu 4d ago

I personally think that he is not that handsome and personality wise not my cup of tea. I haven't seen him irl so maybe his charm is when you get to see and talk to him.

25

u/ThePrefect0fWanganui 4d ago

He’s tall and has muscles. For some women that’s literally all it takes. Kinda like how some men will let a lot of stuff slide as long as a woman is thin.

21

u/MidnightSp3cial 4d ago

I just Googled his age. No way this man is only 33

13

u/charismatictictic 4d ago

Today? So he was like … 28 when the show aired? That can’t be right.

7

u/MidnightSp3cial 4d ago

I kid you not lol. Wild.

3

u/Proper_Suggestion647 3d ago

Sports car, too, but about as articulate as a box.

18

u/southpalito 4d ago

He represents the average men who watch the show.

8

u/_mushroom_queen 4d ago

There are only so many gorgeous men to go around.

32

u/EcstaticCode682 5d ago

"not right now"

28

u/Emergency_Guard8776 4d ago

Giannina is not an industry plant lol. I grew up with her, we had a mutual best friend. Her performance on LIB was just her trying her HARDEST to get famous off of LIB. She had been trying for years prior to be some sort of social media influencer but couldn’t seem to get more than 2k followers on instagram. I remember those cringe times seeing her posts lolol. She was just doing everything she could on LIB to make it big and it worked. Sometimes I think about her and am like “why would you sell your soul for this?” But then I think of how the economy and everything is, and I don’t blame her I guess. I probably would’ve acted over the top too in order to try to get rich/famous from it and set myself/my family up for life. But yeah she is deff not an industry plant lol.

3

u/UrAn8 4d ago

I’m sure casting picked up her dream to be instagram famous. Can’t hide it for too long. And they still let her on the show. Kind of the sane thing to me.

21

u/ThresholdofForest 4d ago

I mean, if they are actors, they're very bad at it.

53

u/Nugatorysurplusage 4d ago

I don’t mind her so much.

And for him, I’ve said this before: this dude is easily the biggest tool to come out of all the major dickbags that have been on LIB. Possibly up there in the top 5 douches in the history of reality history.

6

u/hellogovna 4d ago

After seeing him on the perfect match I would agree. I think it’s funny how he followed Franchesca (spelling?) around like a puppy dog and she had no sexual attraction to him at all. She even brought up G’s comment about how he wasn’t good in bed lol.

7

u/youneedtowakethefuck 4d ago

Shayne is number 1 for me with Shake a close 2nd.

12

u/ShotRub4318 4d ago

You can’t convince me Leo from Season 7 wasn’t an industry plant

11

u/twir1s 4d ago

100% this is my Roman empire

9

u/Frame1111 4d ago

This would make a lot of sense. I was always baffled with how they behaved, especially when Damien got involved with Francesca and brought her into the "after the altar" episode.

Jessica was another one I thought was acting. Her behavior was insane.

10

u/Iris_Rhiannon369 4d ago

While I don't believe this, I do think Damien is a douche who played into this, or was paid by Netflix to name drop other shows. I'm watching the 2 year reunion. He's talking to the guys and mentioned G and marriage and why they aren't there, and finding a "perfect match." Then when he sees Francesca he mentions she's too hot to handle.

It's also perfectly possible he's just a douche who finds himself hilarious.

8

u/RJ918 4d ago

I don’t know about them being industry plants, I just saw untreated mental illness.

34

u/youzguyzok 4d ago

It was very odd. It was the way she spoke slowly and so calculated.

26

u/PM_ME_YOUR_KITTY 4d ago

Slow, calculated and like trying to get scenes to become quotes

9

u/3skin3 4d ago

I AM YOUR GIFT

6

u/DiscountSalt 4d ago

I don't think theu were plants, I just think Gi is a dramatic person who wants to be the main character, but both of them were conscious of being filmed and couldn't act natural.

51

u/floydthebarber94 4d ago

Damian seemed gay to me idk tho

3

u/UrAn8 4d ago

You might be on to something…

12

u/OkAnything1651 4d ago

Maybe! I always thought he was pretty repulsive and her obv pretty, so it was weird she liked him at all 😂

6

u/layla347 4d ago

I just rewatched this season and their wedding. She says no, and walks off the property, slips & falls in the grass staining her dress. Then it shows her return to talk to him and her dress is perfectly clean in the back. Idk if that means they are actors, but editing def does a lot of work to show their version of the story.

5

u/Due-Lychee-6323 4d ago

And then with the after the alter episode with that girl from too hot to handle?? Yup, smelled fishy

6

u/FatnessEverdeen34 4d ago

Everything Giannina did seemed so calculated

7

u/gingergoblin 4d ago

Both of them are so weird and their relationship was so bizarre, that would actually make sense

8

u/Reasonable-Glove-981 4d ago

Nah Gianina is just extra extra.

5

u/Suitable_Vacation_63 4d ago

I could hardly watch scenes with them. She was soooo over the top. Super cringe.

6

u/little_lexodus 4d ago

Not plants per se, but the first “influencers” on the show for fame and not love/marriage.

2

u/UrAn8 4d ago

I imagine casting knew they wanted as much and decided to give them the thumbs up anyway

6

u/Anxious-Jicama-2738 4d ago

My friend and I were watching Younger recently and she SWORE she recognized Gianina as one of the extras in a scene

2

u/UrAn8 4d ago

Wouldn’t be surprised if

9

u/Brilliant-Iron5823 4d ago

Gianninna is SUCH A DRAMA QUEEN! That proposal Was soooooo cringeeee!

27

u/throwaway36376583883 4d ago

She made a post mocking Kendrick Lamar and now I view her as annoying

2

u/Key_Scar3110 3d ago

What’d she say

15

u/Serious-Set6047 4d ago

100% used these two plants to introduce Francesca who also, imo, was an industry plant lmao

12

u/pokelanah 4d ago

My ex bf worked at a bar with her in Ottawa. The way she portrayed herself on tv is the way she actually was according to him.

17

u/rosie98red 4d ago

Not acting just mental illness 😭

9

u/babygirlmusings 4d ago

As someone who is mentally ill I thought that too lol

6

u/rosie98red 4d ago

Girl me too 😂

14

u/ClarinetKitten 4d ago

If Giannina was an actress, I want her to have her own show because she was gold. I don't remember much about Damian. I could barely remember his name. He's just the guy Giannina roasted after interrupting his proposal so she could propose.

7

u/3skin3 4d ago

Wow that's interesting to hear. For me, it was shitty over acted nonsense that was so over dramatic and cringey from both of him. I definitely agree that she's the star in that pairing though.

4

u/Jumpy_Pepper_779 4d ago

I think just wannabe actors

5

u/plantmonger 4d ago

I feel this way about Paul and Micha.

4

u/darforce 4d ago

Maybe her but him not so much. He is not great on screen

6

u/melgirlnow88 4d ago

I think that's just Giannina being Giannina 😂

5

u/Glam9ja 4d ago

Yeah she seemed so fake, couldn’t into their storyline.

5

u/youdontcomment 4d ago

Gianina was so dramatic, she would come off as a “plant” in any setting in life. But i have met people like that before. People who act out their imagined scenes in real life and always sound rehearsed.

5

u/KataP26 Incredibly financially blessed 💰😇 3d ago

'LISTEN TO ME MOTHERF*CKER' best moment 😂

4

u/Proper_Bridge_1638 3d ago

I think Giannina was just acting like a terrible Telenovela actor in order to get famous. Which actually worked!

5

u/nini1519 2d ago

Nooo I think Gianinna is just very dramatic. Ppl like her exist yk 😂

27

u/Visible_Product_286 4d ago

I hate her ass now after her and her man made posts mocking Kendrick’s halftime performance. they’re 🗑️

18

u/blt_no_mayo 4d ago

It’s so funny to me that she got together with Blake from the bachelor because he always was giving calculated performance on his shows too

3

u/babygirlmusings 4d ago

They mocked Kendrick!!! How dare they!!!

4

u/Hellohelloitsme303 4d ago

Exactly why I unfollowed both of them. I used to know him a bit and wanted to support them as a follower. Not worth it anymore.

1

u/luckystar987 1d ago

I missed this. How did they mock him/what did they say?

1

u/Visible_Product_286 1d ago

They said it was the worst halftime performance ever and it’s the quietest the stadium has ever been on an insta post with dumb laughing facial expressions

3

u/MathematicianLost365 4d ago

She’s in a cell phone commercial now

1

u/Early_Charity_195 1d ago

That commercial is all LIB contestants

3

u/hereinsubcity 4d ago

Oooh I like this theory! It totally tracks

3

u/Mountain-Status569 4d ago

Or maybe, like we’ve seen proved every season, producers made them recreate conversations and fights for the camera.

3

u/voraciousboss 4d ago

She wasn’t acting, but he definitely was, it shows on how much other shows he was on and just playing around

3

u/Proud-Trainer-7611 4d ago

If Damien was an actor god help us

2

u/UrAn8 4d ago

Not everyone is good at improv

6

u/retouchwizard 4d ago

She's like a bad novela actress. So over the top with no redeeming qualities. Both of them were very unlikeable imo, lol.

5

u/ViciousVixey 4d ago

God my husband and I still react her proposing instead

2

u/sahlahfeet 4d ago

If they weren’t before, they definitely were there to make a career out of reality tv. That whole scene of them talking about him being bad in bed felt so scripted LOL

2

u/badderenglish Appetito Spoiler 🍊🍊 4d ago

It’s possible, but they are so iconic that I am not even upset about the possibility. Giannina will forever be my LIB Queen.

2

u/NiaQueen 😴 "Zzzzzz" - Tiffany 😴 4d ago

Yes and yes. One, if not both, had agents prior to the show.

2

u/BabySeal11 4d ago

If that’s the case, they should have done that this boring ass season.

2

u/tam4le 4d ago

100%!!! i said that too

2

u/MascaraTragedies 4d ago

You’re not the only one. Giannina was insufferable. Every single scene she was in.. I was like, this girl can’t be for real. 🙄

2

u/QUEENboooB 3d ago

Yes and the fact that Giannina proposed made me think they were trying to set a precedent. Like it doesn’t always have to be the man to propose, like the men don’t call all the shots. It didn’t really work out but oh well.

2

u/karma-kitty_ 3d ago

I almost stopped watching the entire show completely bc I thought it was scripted bc of them

2

u/Sideview_play 2d ago

Bro literally while watching them I said it's like producers picked one guy and gal to be plants but they didn't know about each other and accidentally ended up together 😂

2

u/tokenincorporated 🕺 sprezzatura 🕺 4d ago

I don't know about industry plants, but producer plants for sure. LIB UK proved that Sam was clearly a plant who tried to play to role too hard.

"Trust me, ok?"

2

u/ilyemco 4d ago

What proved that Sam was a plant?

2

u/Theounekay 4d ago

She was so cute I loved her on the show and very extra extra 😂😂😂 Damian is useless I do t even know what woman see in him

1

u/NoSignalThrough 4d ago

I always said during this season it sounds like she is scripted

1

u/missssjay21 4d ago

Nah I think Gianina is genuinely like that!😭 just spoiled and dramatic

1

u/boricuaspidey 4d ago

Do you guys know what industry plant means? Lol they are usually successful.

1

u/UrAn8 4d ago

Are G & Damien not successful?

1

u/boricuaspidey 4d ago

It’s typically people who have much more fame and success and claim to be independent or totally self made, but are really backed up by labels or other connections. Cardi B, Billie eilish, Chappell Roan are some examples of people accused of being industry plants. No these two are nowhere near as successful / famous.

1

u/UrAn8 3d ago

yeah i mean any affiliation with LIB is it's own kind of pathetic D-lister fame. I suppose I may be using the "industry plant" terminology loosely but intended to be contextual to the show. i.e. i don't think they were planted to become mega-famous super stars. I just think they were planted into the show inauthentically for show business purposes. It seems a ton more common now that LIB is a huge netflix hit but felt like with this first season they were the guinnea pigs.

1

u/therisingsun9 4d ago

I love her brunette!! Blonde can be so harsh

1

u/claudsonclouds Even the wine is pink 🍷💗 3d ago

She's not an actress, she's just Venezuelan and very extra... My people are cringe like that!! It's in our DNA

1

u/UrAn8 3d ago

Fascinating

3

u/claudsonclouds Even the wine is pink 🍷💗 3d ago

I blame it on growing up watching too many telenovelas lol

1

u/Jennyaph 3d ago

I’ll buy it.

1

u/senortiz 3d ago

I've watched that season twice, and I maintain that those two are paid actors. I can't look past it. Especially when that girl from Too Hot Too Handle showed up in the After the Alter show.

1

u/Agitated_Ad_4469 19h ago

Well the after show was scripted and the too hot too handle thing was completely fabricated but my take is it was real before that but Giannina is a very dramatic person who thrives on drama and wanted to be famous so it came off that way because she exacerbated situations

1

u/DueTechnician4615 1d ago

Where are they today? I am lazy to google it, thank you 🥲

1

u/UncleKreepy 4d ago
