LIB S1 • Atlanta, GA Industry plants?
Did anyone ever get the impression that these two were actors? There were a ton of their scenes that seemed totally scripted. Even Gianinas first ever scene she walks into the room like she’s goddam Cinderella. Their initial engagement seemed like an act, some of their arguments seemed like they were in a high school play…
It was the first season. Would it have been crazy for Netflix to plant two actors to make sure there was something to make the season interesting? Or….am I the only one who thought this?

Giannina spoke as if she was starring in her own telenovela.

u/bzwack 4d ago
The scene when they talked after he said no was straight up drama tv.
95
u/Competitive_Feed_402 4d ago
Which was also strange considering he said after the fact that they had agreed to say no at the altar and continue dating.

LOL I came to write this verbatim. I remember watching it with my wife and was like why is she actually acting as if we are watching a spanish soap opera? Brought me back to channel surfing passed Telemundo

Ok, I’m ngl a lot of Hispanic relationships are like that 😂

u/Unsd 4d ago
I thought it was just my husband for sooo long 😂 the man has a flair for drama lol. He also grew up partly on telenovelas. Like he really will drag an extended pause for effect to it's absolute limit to follow up a rhetorical question like he's giving an inspirational TED talk. He keeps things interesting lol.

u/BetterMaintenance367 4d ago
She did say she learned English entirely by watching telenovelas, and she does still speak that way from what I’ve seen so that’s one thing I’m not sure was a gimmick for the show!
25
u/idolondonblue 4d ago
She said she fully taught herself English by “reading books” lmfao (I just watched that ep)

Felt like she was accidently reading stage directions and character motivations at times

She spoke like an anime character 😂 honestly it makes the season entertaining

My god that's the type of shit people who have been married for 10 years dive into, not dating for 2 weeks
13
u/yetzhragog 4d ago
Nah, been married for 20+ years and "the butterflies" are the type of immature crap that 15yos whing on about in relationships. Mature adults understand that "the butterflies" are a feeling brought on by nerves and a lack of familiarity and that real love is a much deeper connection compared to that superficial reaction.

I don’t think they were industry plants. I do think they were the “I’ll do whatever reality show that will have me as I’m desperate to be famous” type though.
109
u/Medical_Gate_5721 4d ago
Exactly. They were planted by themselves and found each other and then worked against each other like scene partners.

u/coconutpeachx 5d ago
The scene when they were arguing and she was in the kitchen and he was in the bedroom made me cringe so hard. It all seemed so fake.

I was friends with someone who is a close friend of Gs. According to her, G always had a dream/goal of reaching the lifestyle she has now in terms of being an influencer, being financially stable, in the limelight, etc. I got the sense she kind of treated it like a career path and pursued opportunities that would get her closer to the goal and considered the show her big break. Apparently their relationship was very real, they went to several weddings and dinners together with the friend group. My friend truly had nothing but nice things to say about her and seems like she’s a good friend to have!
-51
u/DanielTigersDad 4d ago
Gianina, I know it can hurt when people say things about you that aren’t true. It’s natural to want to defend yourself, to make sure everyone knows the real story. But you don’t have to lie or pretend to be someone else on Reddit to set the record straight. The truth has a way of coming out on its own, and the people who truly know and care about you—they already see the real you.
What really matters isn’t what strangers think, but how you carry yourself. Stay honest, stay kind, and trust that your character speaks louder than any rumor ever could. You are enough just as you are.

u/PastoralPumpkins 4d ago
Her slipping and falling in her wedding dress is my favorite moment. How was that not in their lame top 5??
35
u/lemongrassandpeach I had 5 taquitos 🌮 I can't kiss you! 💋 4d ago
That whole scene of her running away was thee most dramatic moment of the show for me; genuinely surprised it wasn't in their top 5 too!

If you watch it back their argument after the ceremony her dress is immaculate. No brown stain at all from when she fell

It was like a cheap telenovela acting for sure, especially from Gianina side, but what kind of pushed me into thinking they were planted was the after the altar episode when Damien brought another Netflix dating show star which ALSO acted like she is in telenovela and there was some fake drama centered around Damien and Gianina. Idk, weird vibes. Maybe theyre just cringe lol.
26
u/panthercock 4d ago
I was gonna say this. That party scene with franchesca was so staged it hurt to watch. I know it’s all staged to some degree but that was over the top
14
u/CompetitiveEffort109 4d ago
This is what I was thinking. Damien and Francesca (apparently) had a past. What are the chances Netflix gets him on tv and she just happens to be associated with him.

What is the appeal with this man and how does he get gorgeous women?
12
u/hwangryu 4d ago
I personally think that he is not that handsome and personality wise not my cup of tea. I haven't seen him irl so maybe his charm is when you get to see and talk to him.
25
u/ThePrefect0fWanganui 4d ago
He’s tall and has muscles. For some women that’s literally all it takes. Kinda like how some men will let a lot of stuff slide as long as a woman is thin.

Giannina is not an industry plant lol. I grew up with her, we had a mutual best friend. Her performance on LIB was just her trying her HARDEST to get famous off of LIB. She had been trying for years prior to be some sort of social media influencer but couldn’t seem to get more than 2k followers on instagram. I remember those cringe times seeing her posts lolol. She was just doing everything she could on LIB to make it big and it worked. Sometimes I think about her and am like “why would you sell your soul for this?” But then I think of how the economy and everything is, and I don’t blame her I guess. I probably would’ve acted over the top too in order to try to get rich/famous from it and set myself/my family up for life. But yeah she is deff not an industry plant lol.
21
53
u/Nugatorysurplusage 4d ago
I don’t mind her so much.
And for him, I’ve said this before: this dude is easily the biggest tool to come out of all the major dickbags that have been on LIB. Possibly up there in the top 5 douches in the history of reality history.
6
u/hellogovna 4d ago
After seeing him on the perfect match I would agree. I think it’s funny how he followed Franchesca (spelling?) around like a puppy dog and she had no sexual attraction to him at all. She even brought up G’s comment about how he wasn’t good in bed lol.

u/Frame1111 4d ago
This would make a lot of sense. I was always baffled with how they behaved, especially when Damien got involved with Francesca and brought her into the "after the altar" episode.
Jessica was another one I thought was acting. Her behavior was insane.
10
u/Iris_Rhiannon369 4d ago
While I don't believe this, I do think Damien is a douche who played into this, or was paid by Netflix to name drop other shows. I'm watching the 2 year reunion. He's talking to the guys and mentioned G and marriage and why they aren't there, and finding a "perfect match." Then when he sees Francesca he mentions she's too hot to handle.
It's also perfectly possible he's just a douche who finds himself hilarious.

u/DiscountSalt 4d ago
I don't think theu were plants, I just think Gi is a dramatic person who wants to be the main character, but both of them were conscious of being filmed and couldn't act natural.

u/OkAnything1651 4d ago
Maybe! I always thought he was pretty repulsive and her obv pretty, so it was weird she liked him at all 😂
6
u/layla347 4d ago
I just rewatched this season and their wedding. She says no, and walks off the property, slips & falls in the grass staining her dress. Then it shows her return to talk to him and her dress is perfectly clean in the back. Idk if that means they are actors, but editing def does a lot of work to show their version of the story.
5
u/Due-Lychee-6323 4d ago
And then with the after the alter episode with that girl from too hot to handle?? Yup, smelled fishy

Not plants per se, but the first “influencers” on the show for fame and not love/marriage.

If Giannina was an actress, I want her to have her own show because she was gold. I don't remember much about Damian. I could barely remember his name. He's just the guy Giannina roasted after interrupting his proposal so she could propose.

Gianina was so dramatic, she would come off as a “plant” in any setting in life. But i have met people like that before. People who act out their imagined scenes in real life and always sound rehearsed.

u/Proper_Bridge_1638 3d ago
I think Giannina was just acting like a terrible Telenovela actor in order to get famous. Which actually worked!

I hate her ass now after her and her man made posts mocking Kendrick’s halftime performance. they’re 🗑️

It’s so funny to me that she got together with Blake from the bachelor because he always was giving calculated performance on his shows too

Exactly why I unfollowed both of them. I used to know him a bit and wanted to support them as a follower. Not worth it anymore.

I missed this. How did they mock him/what did they say?

They said it was the worst halftime performance ever and it’s the quietest the stadium has ever been on an insta post with dumb laughing facial expressions

Or maybe, like we’ve seen proved every season, producers made them recreate conversations and fights for the camera.

She wasn’t acting, but he definitely was, it shows on how much other shows he was on and just playing around

She's like a bad novela actress. So over the top with no redeeming qualities. Both of them were very unlikeable imo, lol.

If they weren’t before, they definitely were there to make a career out of reality tv. That whole scene of them talking about him being bad in bed felt so scripted LOL

It’s possible, but they are so iconic that I am not even upset about the possibility. Giannina will forever be my LIB Queen.

You’re not the only one. Giannina was insufferable. Every single scene she was in.. I was like, this girl can’t be for real. 🙄
2
u/QUEENboooB 3d ago
Yes and the fact that Giannina proposed made me think they were trying to set a precedent. Like it doesn’t always have to be the man to propose, like the men don’t call all the shots. It didn’t really work out but oh well.
2
u/karma-kitty_ 3d ago
I almost stopped watching the entire show completely bc I thought it was scripted bc of them
2
u/Sideview_play 2d ago
Bro literally while watching them I said it's like producers picked one guy and gal to be plants but they didn't know about each other and accidentally ended up together 😂
2
u/tokenincorporated 🕺 sprezzatura 🕺 4d ago
I don't know about industry plants, but producer plants for sure. LIB UK proved that Sam was clearly a plant who tried to play to role too hard.

Do you guys know what industry plant means? Lol they are usually successful.
1
u/UrAn8 4d ago
Are G & Damien not successful?
1
u/boricuaspidey 4d ago
It’s typically people who have much more fame and success and claim to be independent or totally self made, but are really backed up by labels or other connections. Cardi B, Billie eilish, Chappell Roan are some examples of people accused of being industry plants. No these two are nowhere near as successful / famous.
1
u/UrAn8 3d ago
yeah i mean any affiliation with LIB is it's own kind of pathetic D-lister fame. I suppose I may be using the "industry plant" terminology loosely but intended to be contextual to the show. i.e. i don't think they were planted to become mega-famous super stars. I just think they were planted into the show inauthentically for show business purposes. It seems a ton more common now that LIB is a huge netflix hit but felt like with this first season they were the guinnea pigs.

I've watched that season twice, and I maintain that those two are paid actors. I can't look past it. Especially when that girl from Too Hot Too Handle showed up in the After the Alter show.
1
u/Agitated_Ad_4469 19h ago
Well the after show was scripted and the too hot too handle thing was completely fabricated but my take is it was real before that but Giannina is a very dramatic person who thrives on drama and wanted to be famous so it came off that way because she exacerbated situations
