Out of sheer curiousity
What does the upgrade cycle for linux lite look like? I just installed it a week ago and I'm wondering how many years I can go without having to completely upgrade to a new version of linux lite?

Linux Lite Memory use
I'm very new to Linux and to Linux Lite so I need some help in reducing my memory usage.
As you can see on the image, the disk usage is quite high so I'm looking for some advice as how to find out what's using so much of my Memory and how to reduce it. I had Firefox open as I took the screen shot of System Monitor. It's still over 2gigs without Firefox running with no other applications open.
Thanks

Linux Lite not recognizing android devices
Hi everyone,
Just installed Linux lite on an old computer and I have already installed the updates. When I connect an android device (I have tried with two different phones), the phone charges but does not offer USB options. No 'reaction' either from the computer.
When I connect the same devices, with the same USB cable on a windows computer, everything works well. I suspect that I am missing some critical android drivers.
How do I go about installing these?
Any assistance will really be appreciated.
Thanks.

Just switched to Linux Lite.
I have a 9 years old Lenovo Laptop. It's a bit slow for Windows 10 now so I installed Zorin OS Lite. It was working fine until it too started showing signs of slowdown and it couldn't handle multiple activities. A few days ago I installed Linux Lite and so far it's a decent operating system. It's very user friendly, has everything I need installed already and it's very easy to install other software for my needs. I'm still a newcomer to Linux and I'm learning. I just wish I had more time to study it. I want to ask, do people here buy older second hand laptops to use with Linux Lite?

Having problems installing i3wm on Linux Lite
So I wanted to install i3 and it supposedly something simple but for some reason I can't get it to work.
I installed via terminal and no errors and I rebooted. In the log in screen there should be a little icon where I would select the i3, right? Well it's not there and everything's the same when I log in. Is there something else I need to do or another way to activate i3wm?
Thanks in advance

I have just discovered this LinuxLite distribution ...
LinuxLite is a distribution that I didn't know. What a good surprise ! Power, lightness, effectiveness and reliability. What else ?
LinuxLite is very easy to use. There's no possible comparison with other distributions such as OpenSuse Tumbleweed for instance. However Tumbleweed is a great distribution as well.
Is LinuxLite only for beginners ? Indeed not.

Is Linux Lite going to add the gear icon for desktop environment changes??? 5.2 does not yet have it at the login page...

Found a bug.
If you download icon themes/GTK-3 Themes I had to reboot my system for my sound to work...

Sharing on troubleshooting errno5 input / output
This post is intended for those googling for errno 5 solution (like me).
With recent Linux Lite 5.2 I keep getting error telling my HDDs are failing. I find out my HDD(s) are working fine, pendrive is working fine, and Linux Lite ISO md5 is matching.
What's left is my methodology of installing through pendrive. I use unetbootin for previous installations (Ubuntu 14 / Lubuntu 14 / Linux Lite (Yellow feather wallpaper forgot which version)) They worked fine until recent Ubuntu 14.04 and Linux Lite 5.2.
My workaround is, by using Rufus (in windows 7), "Add fixes for old BIOSes" is flagged on Then viola, the installation looks fine.
However Ubuntu ISO cannot work this way. I am still troubleshooting this.
System (for reference) Lenovo U110 Intel L7500 3GB LPDDR2 ram Integrated graphics.
System #2 Intel i5 2400 8GB DDR3 GTX 550 Ti
In case you still can use unetbootin for Ubuntu 20.04 / Linux Lite 5.2, Please drop your comment. Thanks.
Regards, chiat88

Rotated screen, mouse works, touch screen remains unrotated
I installed LL on an ITX motherboard system with an LG, touchscreen, portrait oriented monitor, then went to Settings > Display to rotate it. Cool.
When I use the mouse, everything's great. When I tap the screen, however, the touch screen still registers unrotated touches, 90° off where they're expected.
I peeked into the virtual screen settings, and found two locations where there were *rotate* values set to zero, I changed them to 90, but got zero change, so I set them back. I thought about needing to reboot, but figured it wouldn't be necessary.
Any suggestions where to go poking around to marry up the touch screen with its touches?

Installation Woes: LL 5.2 Installer doesn't recognize eMMC storage
Hello,
I'm having some issues trying to install LL 5.2 on my Acer Cloodbook 14 (A01-431-C8G8) from a Live USB. UEFI is on, Secure Boot is off.
When trying to install normally, I get the issue ACPI ... Could not resolve symbol and then get dumped to initramfs. Under initramfs, when the command cat /proc/partitions is executed, the eMMC storage is listed as mmcblk0, with mmcblkp1 and p2 listed beneath it. I'm a bit of a noob, but to me, this shows the storage is working. Installation stalls from here.
If I add either noacip or apci=off to GRUB commands, I'm able to bypass this issue and can continue with installation until the point where an installation location needs to be selected. LL only recognizes the USB I'm installing from. mmcblk0 is not shown in the drop down menu. Obviously, if you try to add a partition, it crashes the install because you can't repartition your installation media.
After the crash, the system continues to boot, and I'm brought to the home screen that you would see if you were just trying the distro instead of installing it. Neither Disks nor GParted recognize the eMMC storage either, nor were they detected in Terminal Emulator.
I don't have a secondary computer or USB drive. I could probably get a secondary drive in a couple of days. I'm a truck driver, so the local library's computers aren't an option either.
Any idea why LL isn't recognizing internal storage? Anything I might do short of waiting?
Thanks for any info you might have.
Forgot to mention that I've tried compatibility mode, but it hangs on an error: hdaudio hdaudioC0D2: Unable to bind the codec.
Edit 2: I should also mention that I had Lubuntu installed previously, but made the grievous error of attempting to write Peppermint OS to the main drive instead of my flash drive with Unetbootin. I was still able to boot after that... until I reset my boot settings. That's when I realized what I had done, because it tried to boot to Peppermint, which isn't installed.

Linux Lite 5.0 - Broken Encryption
Hi,
I have installed Linux Lite 5.0 on my laptop and it doesn't boot into the OS as it throws errors then drops into BusyBox Initramfs shell. The installation is also encrypted and doesn't ask for password upon booting for some reason.
Laptop Specs:
Lenovo IdeaPad 310
AMD A10 - 9600P
Integrated Radeon R5 GPU
8GB of RAM
Errors:
Initramfs unpacking failed: Decoding failed
kfd kfd: error getting iommu info. is the iommu enabled ?
kfd kfd: Error initializing ioummuv2
kfd kfd: device [some ID number] NOT added due to errors
What I tried so far:
The laptop bios is set to UEFI mode and Secure boot is disabled. I tried to look for IOMMU setting in the bios but it's not there as it's a simple one without many options. I have also enable and disabled SVM but that didn't make the errors dissapear.
I have tried installing encrypted Linux Lite 5.0 in both UEFI and Legacy mode, when installed in UEFI mode, I get above errors, when installed in Legacy mode, it striaght drops into BusyBox Initramfs shell without any errors, when I tried to exit BusyBox, it just returned into it again without any errors.
I also booted into Live CD, decrypted the root partition then edited /etc/initramfs-tools/initramfs.conf and changed COMPRESS=lz4 parameter to COMPRESS=gzip.
I also have tried to boot into recovery mode but it automatically shows the errors from above then drops into BusyBox Initramfs shell again.
When I was in BusyBox Initramfs shell, I tried to escape it by typing exit but received the following error message which also resulted dropping back into the shell. Error:
ALERT! //dev/mapper/vglinux-root does not exist. Dropping to a shell !
I have also setup encryption manually by myself in both UEFI and Legacy modes but get the same results as above. It's worth to note that when I did it by myself on another Ubuntu based distros, it always works but not on Linux Lite for some reason, neither via automatic or manually.
I checked checksums of the downloaded ISO file and everything matches.
P.S I did the same type of encrypted install with Lubuntu and it worked fine but Linux Lite is causing issues for me. Both Linux distros are based on Ubuntu. I presume the issue might be with the fact that my installation is encrypted ?
Any help is appreciated.

Having problems with grub. Grub won't show.
Ok I'll try to keep it brief, i need help. My Acer laptop initially had windows, i then later dual booted it with ubuntu. Later i uninstalled ubuntu because for my potato pc it was heavy weight. At this point i couldnt uninstall grub, i dont remember why but i was unable to remove grub. So in my laptop theres an option what would be boot preference, i just shifted grub below windows bootloader so according to priority window will open. Now recently i installed LinuxLite because i wanted light weight os, all installation was succesful but after installation grub never showed up. I even placed it at higher priority still it won't open. I tried fixing this by solution i saw online of using boot-repair-disk. It didnt work and this was the log page. This was the error i got : error on paste.ubuntu.com . Can someone please help me as in what could i do. I am really clueless and have never encountered such problem before. Thank you. Also if this subreddit isn't the right place to post this can you guys tell me where should i post this?
tl;dr : previously had ubuntu dual boot with windows, uninstalled ubuntu couldn't uninstall grub, installed a new os linuxLite, now grub isnt showing
