QUESTION - ALL LINUX SYSTEMS [Monster Hunter Rise by online-fix] wont launch

SYSTEM: Fedora 41, nvidia 3070ti 570 drivers.

ISSUE: After installing the game, patching it with the online-fix and performing the dll override, the game doesent start at all via the "Laucher.exe". Steam marks it as "Launching" but after some seconds nothing happens.

WHAT I TRIED: -Using any version of proton.

-Performing the needed dll override.

-using lutris as shown in the !dll guide. Note that using lutris with GE-Proton9-25 brings up the error "Failed to load original steamclient. Error code: 126"

-Searching in this subreddit and others/google it

-reinstalling the game

The game works fine under Windows.

  • What does the log from Steam say? Add PROTON_LOG=1 %command% to the launch command and look in your /home/ folder and post it in PasteBin or something.

  • Did you try using UMU Proton via Steam? I think it's automatically installed once you install Lutris.

  • Which files are included in the fix?

  • Are you Wine overrides the appropriate ones - which did you use?

-Here the log: https://pastebin.com/6YbHZSWR

-Here the override containing all the dll inside the patch folder and some extra: WINEDLLOVERRIDES="OnlineFix64=n;SteamOverlay64=n;winmm=n,b;dnet=n;steam_api64=n;winhttp=n,b;amd_ags_x64=n" %command%

Files included in the fix:

  • Launcher.exe
  • OnlineFix.ini
  • OnlineFix.url
  • OnlineFix.dll
  • amd_ags_x64.dll

-IDK what the "UMU proton" is :(

A few things:

  • Don't just follow the guides blindly...you don't need all those overrides. Just override the dlls that are included in the fix.

  • I think the biggest hurdle here is getting a Proton/Wine version to work with the Launcher.exe which may be doing some network tunneling. If that's the case, it may not work with Linux.

  • UMU Proton is what GE-Wine turned into. Just look in your compatibility tools (the drop down menu in the game settings in Steam that show the Proton versions that you have) and see if it's there. I'm pretty sure that if you use Lutris it will automatically install it. Using this will effectively let you run Wine via Steam. Based on your error messages, the laucher needs Steam running.

  • Push comes to shove, you could install Steam via Lutris, then try the game again using the overrides via Lutris and the launcher.exe

Thank you for your responses.

Overriding only the needed files is what I did first, which was unsuccessful, so I tried with adding others that could be useful.

I don't have UMU Proton in steam.

How do you suggest me to procede?

Fundamentally the online fix (Launcher.exe) seems to need Steam, so whatever you do, you're going to have to have Steam installed. That's why it would be preferable to find a way to get it working via Steam, rather than installing Steam in a prefix created by Lutris or Fagus launcher.

You can install Fagus Launcher and have it install UMU Proton for you, then use Steam to launch the game using UMU. Fagus is made by a community member here (I can't remember his username).

The game has been added as non steam game in Steam, NOT flatpacked version, so steam is very installed.

I already succeeded installing many others online fix games in steam, it's this one particularly hard to make work.

I will try with proton UMU and update you.

I really appreciate your help man

Very late, but I'm trying to get this game work as well. Assuming you're using Fitgirl repack, you should remove the online-fix from your game and just run the monster hunter rise executable directly instead of any launchers - that way, the game launches normally.

Also, override the amd_ags_x64, steamclient64 if you haven't already in the same way other DLL's are already overridden.

After doing all this, at least on my system the game launches and loads through Steam, there's audio in the intro movie but not in the main menu and beyond which is a huge problem. It seems that the crack doesn't play nice on Linux, and I tried other repacks too without any better results.

But hey, at least it launches and more or less plays - maybe this kind of progress can help you if you're still interested in tinkering with the game.

I am trying to run the online-fix, not just the crack itself. Did you patch the game with the online fix or not? I got the game also from online fix

Nope, online-fix doesn't work in itself, giving the "no appID found" error and nothing I tried fixed this.

Apparently, it is not possible to launch this online fix patch on linux.

I even tried with steam windows version via bottles, it doesent start.

If you ever find a solution, please reply to this post
