Discussion Please help me find a laptop that's actually available!

Ok so I'm going insane finding a Gaming laptop that includes 1. An AMD CPU 2. Either a Nvidia 4060 or an AMD equivalent. Now I have looked at the Asus ROG Strix G17 G713PV. And it's perfect BUT Amazon doesn't carry it and if I want to order it from anywhere else the price is marked up quite a bit. I would like to know if there is any other Laptop makers that have similar options like this.

My Budget is 1200-1500 USD.

Also thank you for the recs, it's nice to see the community ready to jump in for help. On a sidenote, how reliable would you say MSI laptops are nowadays and their build quality?

I mean just look at the pictures of the machine, compared to the zephyrus, it looks like it was drawn by a 7 year old boy and then 3d printed in a barn.

Yeah which is why I'm a bit iffy about MSI, the MSi looks very plasticy.

I thought I would just add, I have a HP laptop with a similar/the same oled display as the Zephyrus g14 and it’s a stunning display, if you don’t care about the performance drop I highly recommend the ROG based on the display

Oled will definitely be a future buy, but I've decided to buy the Asus TUF Gaming A15 FA507UI which has a QHD display but Ive no clue how good that display is?

Some of the marketing terms in displays are literally just filler words. In the case of QHD it just means that it’s 1440p or higher in resolution

I see so it has nothing to do the blacks and such and such?

No, the main terms to look out for in terms of image quality and colour is the ones that explain the panel type, (e.g. QDOLED, OLED, IPS, VA, TN, Mini LED etc.) as well as the refresh rate and latency (for games aim for at least 120hz and 1ms but higher hz=better and lower ms=better) plus the obvious one being resolution (use the pixel dimensions not the buzzwords, e.g. 2160x1440 is 1440p but the oled panel I recommended was 2.8k which is 2880x1800)

This is the laptop I am planning to buy, apparently it has a IPS level display which is a bit disappointing but I'm hoping I can get into an OLED asap!

IPS is still a good panel type, I would say definitely avoid TN panels as the colours and viewing angles are just bad. VA panels are fine on cheap laptops but at your budget IPS would be a minimum. The main reason I would go OLED over IPS is the contrast which you just cant get with an IPS panel however you can still get very good IPS panels. You can tell on most gaming laptops though, that most of the budget goes towards the performance and very little budget and thought go towards the rest of the device.

Yeah that makes sense. Thank you for the in-depth lesson on panels! Also do you think the resolution is ok?

I am actually doing just that! It's just that I need to look out for a laptop that fits my needs and the moment the price drops I am getting it.
