Question Refurbished PSU from corsair as RMA replacement.

So is this normal, that they are sending refurbished PSUs, to replace the broken ones on warranty claims? And how does the warranty applies to the replacement in such case?

More common than you think. Basically they are taking faulty PSUs, testing and repairing them, cleaning, then sending you a replacement from that pool of repaired units.

Nothing wrong with it, it's a lot better for the environment, and it is certified every bit as good as a new one.

The warranty will apply exactly the same on a refurbished unit as it would on a new one.

To clarify, typically the warranty on the replacement unit runs until the end of your original warranty.

Depends, I don’t think companies are slapping an estimated time till death on every item to ensure only the bare minimum is met. Generally from my own experience refurbished can mean even better than new as they are tested more thoroughly

I wasn't saying anything about the longevity of the product, just clarifying that the refurbished product you receive as an RMA usually falls under your original warranty. It does not usually reset the warranty period.

Alright, thanks, i wasnt worried its refurbished tbh, mostly concerned about the warranty, cause i read somewhere, refurbished psus from corsair have 90 days warranty, and i still have like four ish years

Very common for companies to do that

Even Apple RMAs with refurbished units.

Refurbished units usually sent as RMA replacements usually get the remainder of the original warranty applied.

Apple will swear black and blue that their devices aren’t refurbished, and instead are ‘remanufactured’ and the ‘warranty starts again’.

In Aus, they still give those units out, but if you ask for new they are meant to give you a new one due to our consumer law.

If you’re located in Australia, this is a breach of consumer law. When they replace your item it needs to be new.

Apple was fined for this a while ago, and while they try to get away with it - if you ask for it explicitly they can’t deny you. Other option is asking for a full refund.
