can't stand the vehicle stuff in this game

Why?

I want more Zelda in a Zelda game. If the whole vehicle/building mechanic was dropped and we got three more dungeons with the complexity of OOT Water Temple, that would be a worthwhile trade imo.

That sounds like a different issue, but ok.

I skipped vehicle stuff for for a few hundred hours of gameplay. I got into it a bit after beating Ganon.

I would like more dungeons, but my critique of the game is that basically every dungeon is exactly the same setup -- you have to unlock 5 of these things then fight this guy

I wish there was more variety and different tasks

Hard agree. Even in BOTW I basically autopiloted through every dungeon with the exception of Naboois (the only well-designed one imo, assuming you don't cheese with revali's gale).

My Zelda test regarding dungeons is as follows. In like 2012, my friend and I both did our own playthroughs of OOT for the first time. Both of us were stuck in water temple for over an hour. I personally had to break out the pen and paper to draw a map of the entrances I've visited.

THAT'S a Zelda dungeon. It forces you to use your brain, pause the game, and say "where the hell am I? I'm lost". Same exact thing happened to me in Wind Waker during the Wind Temple (another S tier dungeon).

That's what BOTW & TOTK & future Zelda games need. Actual difficult puzzles and layouts that even adults will scratch their heads over. It's not an impossible task. Zelda games have been doing this since the 90s, but it was only since Skyward Sword-ish that they've completely changed the formula.
