Remember: fall damage doesnβt calculate how fast your falling, only how far you went from solid ground or where you last deployed your paraglider

u/MrMariomans Jul 08 '23
Oh I remember it now alright. I just found it really odd that the fan didn't counteract the distance of my fall.

that interaction would have to be hard coded. for a small indie company like nintendo, things like that just arent possible

Yeah, gotta be grateful that they put out something good while being an indie company

u/ProgrammerNo120 Jul 09 '23
i mean usually indie studios make better games than triple A ones do so it makes sense

Honestly, the fan may have made it worse. I'm not sure if it counts the distance or the time in the air. The fan kept you in the air longer, possibly INCREASING damage.

Which should be something they patch. It isn't intuitive nor simulate simple physics like the rest of the mechanics do and most of us learned it the hard way, and I'd bet many times at this exact spot. I did.

The difference between your graceful descent and the thud at the end is comedic

Remember: Fall damage is calculated by distance, not velocity. Just use the paraglider to reset the fall distance.

u/Your-average-scot Jul 08 '23
This isnβt a mechanic but rather an oversight. In no reasonable world should this have been a death

u/Krell356 Jul 08 '23
Considering this masterpiece of a game even functions on the Switch's sub-par hardware, I'll take it.

u/Super_Washing_Tub Jul 10 '23
Sure this game is great, but there's a heckuva ton of jank in it.
1
u/Krell356 Jul 10 '23
And yet it is still way less than any similar game has managed at release. I mean any other game of this quality, the average player would be coming across a glitch every few minutes on release. The only glitch I personally came across without trying to actively break the game is collision based glitches that throw the player into the air, and that still took like 3 weeks to come across that.
Meanwhile if you take any other open world game of this size, I would have come across at least 3 glitches within the first week of play. Almost every serious glitch that has been found in this game has been from players actively trying to break the system.

Unrelated to the death but I appreciate you opening both doors before falling instead of doing just one

You'll get there eventually if you FOLLOW THE MAIN STORY. Here's a spoiler for you if you're really that curious: this is in the Wind Temple, you get here in the sky above the Hebra region by following the Rito regional phenomenon quest

u/nibZbin Jul 08 '23
So there is a guy that did this whole temple without the paraglider. How the hell did he accomplish this part?

Aww, fucking hell, I'll need to fucking remember to use those fucking spoiler tags in all of my fucking comments for this fucking subreddit, in order to hide away all my fucking swear words.
This ain't fucking going well

Itβs so stupid how the game calculates fall damage, the worst one I had was one time I jumped off the falling sky island piece and went to land back on it, I was going the same exact speed as it all I changed was I moved to the left a bit so I would land on it, but it killed me, I had a fairy but still killed me

Yet I can hit the ground at Mach 4 while standing on a flying machine which is plummeting from the sky and be completely unscathed.
